  • why do they do these 3 factors? makes no sense. only one is knock down. The rest is up to the shooter. They should do more things like ammo capacity, reliability, sights, size ... These videos are absolutely no help for considering a concealed carry weapon.

  • Would you recommend the Glock 17 for a first time buyer and shooter? I'm looking to go Glock in either 17, 22 or 27. Recommended by someone if 27 get the x-grip added

  • seems like all personal preference to me. this just shows how well the insructor uses various firearms and is again all personal preference.

  • why do you never consider ergonomics or size when talking about concealed carry? isn't that everybodies first thought when they think of a concealed carry firearm?

  • You could've shot this alot faster wich would've gotten it a much higher score. looks like you're putting down the glock on purpose here.

  • what kind of test is this???

  • Conceal carry a Glock model 17? No thanks, I'll stick to the brick I carry around in my waistband.

  • The first shot @2 could have been much faster. 1.5-1.9

  • All these videos are extremely subjective....interesting points, but very subjective

  • is this dude that terrible with a glock? he got off 5 addictional shots with a double action revolver in 357mag

  • @jgo296 follow up shots with certain guns, like this one, have been atrocious. Also, im not sure how a gun laying flat on a wooden surface simulates concealed carry?

  • in your 1911 video, you were able to put 5 rounds on paper faster than a glock? really? and more accurately?

  • @comblock2

It all comes down to familiarity and preference, for me the 1911 is the best shooting pistol in the world. The grip size fits my hand well, the extra weight helps dampen recoil, and the trigger pull is truly a delight. None of the glocks perform so well in my hands, and I would attribute it to those three above-mentioned factors. Good shooting!

  • At 1:00, it shows that a +P 9mm round was more powerful than a 230 grain .45 ACP. Then why is it that it's common conception that the .45 is substantially more powerful? I personally figured they're wasn't much difference.

  • Thank God for firearms training facilities. Like mine ;)

  • larry potterfield is a retired Marine sniper, he has 1000 confirmed kills

  • whats the differense between the glock 17 and 19 plz reply

  • @1pelletgun A Glock 17 and 19 are both 9mm, the 17 is the standard version and the 19 is the compact version. More information can be found on the Glock website at Glockdotcom/english/index_pistols.htm

  • @1pelletgun glock 17 iz full size.higher capacity mags and more than likely a little less recoil.....

  • 17 is a pretty big gun to haul around and conceal. Also gets pretty heavy with 17+1 124 grain bullets. I find the the G26 a better choice with a +2 plate on the magazines.

  • @EnduringEagle it weighs less than 2.5 pounds with 17 rounds in it.

  • @Grunt922 You have to admit, though, that the G17 is a large, bulky pistol when compared to the G26.

  • @ChishioAme well yeah, but the 26 was made specifically for concealed carry. the 17 was made to be a full sized combat pistol.

  • @ChishioAme some people dont prefer recoil

  • @EnduringEagle :

Have had both the 17 & 26 & carried both extensively. Agree somewhat on the weight of the double stack of 124 gr. 9mm's but do not in any way consider it a "Big Gun" !

The "right" holster makes all the difference ! the 26 surely has its place and like it especially for winter in an outside pocket ! All that said, a 26 with 11 or 12 rounds, for its size is still a formidable package !

  • kahr 9mm

  • is this gun good for beginners?

  • Comment removed

  • @aikerz07 As long as your careful with it (Seeing as it has no safety), Yes. It's a very good choice.

  • @aikerz07 I am a noob to airsoft, and i use the G17, it's a very natural pointer, and the simplistic design is easy to understand

  • u wanna know what police use them? because theyre the best personal protection handgun with all factors included. ALMOST NEVER JAM. very accurate ect ect.

  • Hmm a Glock 17 (easier to carry, lighter, more ergonomical and almost 3x the cap) ranks as high as a S&W 686 maybe this guy should go back to school.

  • Is this video for people who know nothing about guns?

  • anyone else notice the silhouette in the background at 0:09 is actually a glock 19, not a glock 17?

  • no we don't hear about the term knock down factor you made it up !!!!

  • ...all the ballistics in the world won't matter will they?

  • If a 9mm has a better balance of velocity and bullet weight it will beat the 45acp everytime. The more velocity a bullet has the more penetration you get, the heavier the bullet the more kinetic energy it has. There's no set rule that says 45 is ALLWAYS better than 9mm... besides, I see ppl all the time who get killed with .22's and and .32s and die... SHOT PLACEMENT is the key with ANY firearm smh. If you have an ak-47 and I have a 9mm, if u can only hit me in th leg and I get a head shot...

  • @fiyawalka Depends where in the leg you're shot, if said leg shot gets your femoral artery, it's as lethal as a chest or head shot, you'll bleed out very quickly if you don't get help.

  • @fiyawalka getting hit in the leg with a rifle bullet is far different than getting hit with a pistol caliber bullet leg. Anyway a pistol is what you use to get to a rifle or a shotgun, which is why I love my glock 9mm's for carry. If I'm caught away from home during the zombie Apocalypse I'll have enough rounds for on tap to obtain a rifle ;) If I'm at home in a tight space it will be the 45acp. I'm one of the few people who believe 40S&W sucks....flame on! lol...

  • Basically all handgun rounds are weak. A 9mm Luger bullet has demonstrated higher penetration in many circumstances over the .45 ACP. This may or may not be a good thing. Depending on the circumstances. I guess I would take the 9mm over the .45 simply because it affords me more shots. Love the .45 ACP though, and in a full metal jacket (ball) configuration it is a far better stopper than the 9mm. The 9mm (ball) does not spend it's energy inside of an assailant and over penetrates.

  • I'm far from a Glock fanboy, but this is still pretty bogus.

The fact that Larry has a faster 'time to first shot' with a full sized Colt 1911 can only be due to one of two things:

1.) He's spent a helluva lot more range time with that particular gun.

2.) He's taking extra time to aim/fire the Glock on purpose.

I'll give him the knock-down power of the .45acp over the .9mm. luger, that goes without saying.

  • he should have been firing more than 3 rounds in the accuracy test...just look at the USP one..

  • Just picked up my Glock 17 Gen4. Love this gun, really accurate and very little recoil...

  • My dad, just bought one for 350 dollars, that is used, and has only had 50 rounds through it.........I hate him hahahaha

  • Larry oldFarterfield

  • 45 > 9mm

  • This video doesnt give the glock 17 much justice. It seemed like if he was taking his time in the accuracy part.

  • If you pull out any gun made by intratec, the assailant will laugh at you before you proceed to pull the trigger and experience a jam.

  • this tests are shit! if the testing guy maybe is tired he need 1 sec. more to hit the target. only for example. crapy test

  • The chart they gave says that a 9mm 124 gr. JHP is more powerful than the 230 gr. JHP 45 ACP. Larry Potterfield you need to do some research.

  • @sschoenhoft Depends on the ammo. If the 9mm was Buffalo Bore +p+ and the 45 ACP was just a regular HP tha yes the 9mm would have more power. You need to do some research just because it is bigger does not mean it has more power.

  • @IowaHunter641 You need to watch the video again, it said +P not +P+ and I never said just because a bullet is bigger it has more power. Velocity plays a huge role, high velocity is what makes JHP's expand violently allowing the bullet to dump all of it's energy into the target causing massive shock that causes ''knock down power''. But to still believe that a .45 230 gr. JHP is inferior to the 124 gr. +P is nonsense. Show me the scientific method that gave those numbers.

  • @sschoenhoft Most ammo manufacturers have the stats on their rounds or you can do the math yourself. It is actually fairly simple. 1/2 mass x velocity squared. You will find that there are actually quite a few +P 9mm rounds that have more energy than a standard .45 JHP. lol Maybe I am a geek but I love this stuff.

  • @sschoenhoft Velocity is a huge factor. Remember velocity is squared in the energy equation. You double the velocity, your energy goes up 4x. I think people often just look at the rounds and realize velocity is a factor but underestimate how big a factor it really is. A .45 is a big heavy round and it is kind of counter intuitive to think a little 9mm is only slightly less powerful typically and even more powerful in some cases.

  • Larry needs to try out the Glock 20 in 10mm.

  • WTF? 9mm 124 Grain +p JHP rated above .45 ACP 230 Grain JHP. BS.

  • He clearly is a Glock hater. 1. Who the hell would own a 9mm glock? .40 is pretty much Glocks speciality. 2. 3 shots in 5 secs? Wtf?

  • @Michael117american I own a 9mm glock because the ammo is cheap. Going to probably get a Glock 21 (.45 ACP) in the future, though.

  • How in the hell did the 9mm luger 124 gr JHP+P get a higher score in knock down power than a 45 ACP 230gr JHP? Am I missing something?

  • @chevy2046 Smaller bullets tend to go faster and have more momentum when it hits, .45 acp is pretty slow.

  • @yomejustacandy I know that but the .45 is so much bigger and leaves such a big hole and wound. I I've always thought it was the bigger and slower the round the more knock down power and the faster and smaller the more along the lines of penetraction. Like when they shot the 9 vs. 45 at a saw blade.

  • @chevy2046 Its more of a combination of the bullet's weight(just the bullet)and type, the powder, how much powder and how many times it spins before it hits. If you look at the bottom, the 185 .45 acp +P is one of the best 3. Its the right combination of physics and chemistry that make a good bullet, not just high numbers.

  • that little advantage over each other is useless to me as long as it can kill a man at a decent range

  • So the Glock 22 gets a score of 815 and a Glock 19 gets a score of 812 but the Glock 17 gets a score of 715??? WOW, this method of testing and evaluation is so severely flawed!!!!

  • @eldogg4life If you look at his chart, the mythical "knock-down" power is the difference between the Glock 17 (288 points) & the Glock 22 (363). Having shot the 22 and the 23, I'd wager the higher score on the 19 was from the slightly smaller size being easier to handle effectively for that particular shooter. Some people (me included) can shoot the 19s/23s better than the 17s/22s.

In reality I agree his testing methods lack any scientific credibility. There are way too many variables.

  • With my glocks I own a 9 mm .45 and.357

    Personally I'd take a .45 1911.

  • This is bullshit the glock got 3 hits on target because he only fired it 3 times. If he had bothered to fire it another 2 times then it would have scored 5 hits on his weird miserable amateur score based 'test' if you want to even call it that. What a prick.

  • @adamuk90 huh going to have to try this myself see how well i do when i get my glock i can do better then that with a junk kimber

  • @adamuk90 huh just watched the colt 1911 one if you can get 5 hits with a 45 you should do better with a 9mm

  • @masterofnotmuch2 Exactly. And he actually fired 5 times with the colt, he only fired 3 times with this. Serious fucking douchebag.

  • what a ridiculous way of ranking defense pistols

  • dear sir. i'm just wondering if the Glock that is made in USA is just the same with Austria. Because here in my place, the only available is made in USA. Is it accurate? No hiccups? No regrets? THANKS. Hope you will respond. :D

  • @501twister well the usa made glock is made by glock only in a us factory so i would have to say there is no difference

  • @501twister There are no Glocks made in the United States they are just imported from Austria and they are marked Smyrna Georgia because that's where they are distributed from across the country.

  • I don't even like Glocks but that was some poor shooting. Score was way too low. This review system seems like a good idea if they were done properly and honestly.

I think even I can can shoot faster than this guy.

  • this is so stupid, most people can fire way faster with 1 hand, way more accurately, and yes the 9mm is a decent cartridge, i know i would not want to take one to the chest (or anywhere for that matter). MidwayUSA, because of this shit video i must say, you will not receive anymore of my money.

  • You seem like a nice guy, Larry, but let me ask you, how many men have you shot with the concealed weapons you've carried over the years?

I'm assuming none, because it's a highly rare event. Given that, why do you and so many gun owners talk about it like it's a weekly/monthly occurrence? Why don't you/we just be honest with ourselves and our wives and just say you like the feel of holding and shooting firearms??

  • @kensimmonsmba

you must really dislike the tens of millions ccw owners in this country for some reason. they do prevent crime and although most don't believe it the mainstream media is biased and doesn't often report gun owners helping people.

  • @kensimmonsmba Sir i would like to ask if you have ever picked up any firearms magazine? Because if you have you would know that most of them have at least 2-3 pages in the beginning dedicated to civilians who use their firearms to prevent crimes. Also you have to consider the fact that, while it may be a rare occurrence, some times those with CCW's have to pull a gun. I myself have used my Remington 870 to deter a burglary attempt and im 27 years old and live in the country.

  • @kensimmonsmba The fact of the matter is that you are right, A life threatening situation that requires the use of a fire arm may not come up often. But when it does i would rather be prepared with the right firearm for the job. I practice as much as possible to ensure that when the time comes my skill and knowledge of said firearm will be a help rather than a hindrance. And just so were clear i will say this, I have had to use a firearm against some one in the past.

  • Anyone who is listening to this quack for recommendations for conceal carry is a moron. The metrics he uses to rate guns are terrible. He does not take into account size, weight, capacity, reliability, etc

  • Will you do a review of the 9mm makarov and the tokarev?

  • "That's the way it is..." (According to how I feel that day & how I'm shooting?) This is JUNK SCIENCE at best. No real scientific formula here. We have a dude, who's personal opinion can be quite biased saying "this gun is rated the best." With no real back-up data, scientific formula, nothing. He doesn't even run a REAL conceal carry drill. I mean serious, who walks around with their gun concealed on top of a table? Shouldn't he draw from his holster concealed UNDER his shirt? Define conceal?

  • 99% of the people commenting on this video are probably under the age of 21 and have never owned a gun

  • That is a bad choice for CCW, it is a full size pistol!

  • @Spelunker0211 With the right holster, any gun can easily be concealed. I carry an M&P full size in a Crossbreed Supertuck.

  • @Spelunker0211 With the right holster, any gun can easily be concealed. I carry an M&P full size in a Crossbreed Supertuck.

  • Ok.... But they took out the whole fact of actually not being able to conceal a full size....... What a awesome test... Not lol...

  • The only scoring factor that really had ANYTHING to do with the gun is the number assigned for knockdown power. The time to first shot depends on THE SHOOTER. The number of shots made after that ALSO DEPENDS ON THE SHOOTER! If you want to give the GUN a score, then how about scoring THE GUN on categories like reliability and how often it jams. All of your videos score the shooter more than they do the gun. That poor bastard only got 3 hits with the Glock AND the baby Browning! MAYBE ITS HIM

  • @CurtShaw22 Got to agree. If this is a rating for CCW, why isn't he drawing from a holster? Then that would introduce the infinite variety of holster positions, models, etc. and people would disagree.

    Also, why only one hand?

  • @VorpalDerringer Very good point, the different types of holsters would DEFINITELY affect the time it takes to fire the first shot WAY more than the type of gun. The difference in pulling the SAME pistol from a belt holster or an ankle holster would be about 500 points according to his scoring system Lol. That seems more like a holster score than a gun score. Its obviously going to take different lengths of time depending on WHERE you pull the gun from right?

  • @CurtShaw22 Yeah, and he doesn't take size into account at all. If he had a good pocket holster for the smaller guns, he wouldn't take as long. Also, a paper plate at 20 feet doesn't sound like a typical CCW engagement range--if the target was bigger, his three hits on the target backing with the Micro Desert Eagle might have counted for something.

  • @CurtShaw22 Got to agree. If this is a rating for CCW, why isn't he drawing from a holster? Then that would introduce the infinite variety of holster positions, models, etc. and people would disagree.

Also, why only one hand? I watched these on TV and they're a useless part of the show.

  • HA I love how the M&P is better then the glock 17 must be the ONLY rating I agree with in his whole reviews sadly enough

  • sorry larry but i am going to have to disagree with your rating system. number one thing you did not take into consideration which should be an important factor when choosing a hand gun for a concealed carry purpose is " ease of concealment" how can you rate it so high when there are other weapons just as accurate in the same chambering that are smaller and lighter?

  • Newtons law tells us that "knock down power" is a myrh.

If the power of the round is powerful enough to "knock down"

a person, the person firing the weapon couldnt hold onto

the firearm. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

Also, your ability to shoot in a certain time frame is not

    a constant.Practice improves performance.

Others may be considerably faster due to build, age and

    training.

Your basis of comparision is flawed from these perspectives.

  • The glock is a very versatlie gun, its just that he takes his time while shootign

  • 1911 are what you show your friends, Glock is what you show the bad guys!

  • Larry Potterfield could punch babies but his cheesy smile would make it seem okay

  • I disagree with the way Midway is rating these weapons.

  • I love Larry, but these evaluations are lousy at best.

  • i have to say. I think this guy did a horrible reveiw on one of th best semi automatic handguns ever built. I think more people own and use glocks for concealed, than any other handgun.

  • no i'll take my Blackhawk,Redhawk or my model 29 Smith & Weston any day you can take your lil piece of crap glock or any semi-auto and stick it up by your head!

  • I would assign a +/- value of 200 points in this test. The first two tests are riddled with error, and are not meaningful. If he feels better one day than an other he can easily shoot quicker or more accurate. So, remember the scores shown at the end, you can easily add or take away 200 points. I bet if he did that test 10 times, there would be a lot of difference between each time.

  • the time of first hit was BULLSHIT

  • The IMI Desert Eagle .50AE scored a 1000/1000, just because when you pull it out everybody runs.

  • @lurch6stringsdown hhhhhaaaaa! i toally agree.

  • @lurch6stringsdown 500 S&W way over 1000

  • @lurch6stringsdown you cant conceal that though.....

  • @lurch6stringsdown

    LOL.. Good One...

  • @lurch6stringsdown yeah too bad its to big to be good for any thing

  • @lurch6stringsdown and btw the desert eagle is also known for as the perfect answer for having a short dick

  • @lurch6stringsdown thats what i use, but mines a .357

  • @lurch6stringsdown desert eagles shoot a small fuckin bullet lol get a revolver that shoots rifle bullets thats a hand cannon 45/70

  • @The357python Well actually the Desert Eagle shoots a bigger bullet than the .45-70 it just doesn't have the OAL that a .45-70 does, the Desert Eagles .50AE round it has about the same OAL as a .44 Magnum.

  • @lurch6stringsdown You pull it out and your enemy Laught do death :-P

  • 1911 > Glock

  • The supposed 'control variable' in this series of videos is Larry's skill. Skill vastly varies from person to person. Not a good way to evaluate a firearm's performance.

  • This guy has come up with a way to quantify personal opinion. Why do you have to fire with one hand? There's no way a 1911 is superior to a Glock 17 for personal defense. Anyone who cannot fire a Glock 17 faster than a 1911 isn't trying. I carried a 1911 for many years until I discovered Glocks.

  • @evanaustinlee

Some people shoot different things better than others. I can fire a 1911 faster than a Glock because of it's shorter trigger reset. Glock is my primary CCW choice, though. Super comfy IWB in my experience.

  • @evanaustinlee Are u butt hurt because your glock is a shitty gun? Oh well.

  • @evanaustinlee xD my race pistol 1911

  • @evanaustinlee Glocks and 1911's can be fired just as quickly as each other, but a 1911 is easier to fire quicker due to its shorter trigger pull.

Your a fool if you say a Glock is better then a 1911 because really, its different for each person. end of story and no discussion.

Although, if you want to get into it, there's no way a 9mm can match a .45 for personal defence.

  • @evanaustinlee lol i know right? its more like how fast HE fired the first shot when he tested the gun one time. any gun that doesnt have some major functioning issue will work for home and self defense. nobody is going to go out and buy the gun that Larry Potterfield says is the best, they're going to train with what they have. or at least thats what anyone with a brain will do.

  • @evanaustinlee

I went the other way, from Glock to 1911.

  • @evanaustinlee precisely!!

  • @evanaustinlee Why? Because he said so. If you don't like it, make your own video about it.

  • @evanaustinlee thats becouse in the situation that you have to use your firearm you ll probably fire it with only one hand

  • @evanaustinlee I agree its personal opinion--there's little to no scientific backing, but I wouldn't necessarily say everyone could fire a Glock 17 faster than any other gun. Personally (and I'm a big fan of Glocks) I can fire my full-size Kimber 1911 .45 faster and more accurately than my Glock 23 or a Glock 19. I know I shoot faster with the 19/23 than I do with the 17/22.

The most important aspect is hitting the target quickly/accurately. That requires a gun you are comfortable with.

  • @evanaustinlee it was not about just fast. How fast can you shot the first shot ON TARGET. Then how many shots can you get ON TARGET in 3 seconds. Thats not just speed. That's more about ease or use and feel of the gun. Your Glock might not exist if it wasn't for the 1911. John Brown decided how a semi-auto should work and feel even before the 1911. But after it everyone else has followed suit.

  • @evanaustinlee I still carry my 1911, ive seen to many crack heads soak up a 9mm round and keep on coming and when you got some junkie rushing you with a shard of glass head shots are tough. I like the knock down power of a .45 over a 9mm personally. Dont get me wrong i have a glock 17 and love that gun i keep it at home for self defense cause its a gun my wife is comfortable with as well. I guess it all boils down to personal preference. but youare right who shoots 1 handed... other than idiots

  • slow is smooth and smooth is fast. I could rant on, but he paused on target. probably needs bi-focals or a new profession.

  • Unscientific and subjective.

  • Wait a sec... He's saying "time to first hit" is shorter with a boat anchor of a gun like the M1911, and CZ 75B, compared to the lightweight Glock? I looked at the review of the other two guns and he's shooting the CZ in single action and I don't think he has it in condition one. Isn't that cheating? He really ought to be starting the CZ in either DA, or condition one. Actually I prefer the CZ over the Glock, but have a hard time believing his evaluation that a CZ 75B beat a Glock.

  • Apparently size and comfort have no bearing on concealed carry. Great side-arm, don't want to carry it concealed every day.

  • sometimes I think this old man is insane. especially with how long he took to fire the damn gun.

  • @adelarge88 well, sometimes i think that euro guns are slower to shoot than others.......

  • Look at all the Glock haters... HA HA HA, it's the most sold gun to law enforcement (65%) so it speaks for itself, really a battle gun. Want a competion gun prone to jams cause of the tighter tolerance, go with a $3,500 1911, i'll stick to my Glock 21 SF, .45ACP!

  • i'll take my cz p01 duty over my G17 anytime.

  • Glocks are great, but over hyped. It wasn't a perfect gun design from the start, but it's become excellent with improvements over the years. And, though it's good, there are a lot of choices out there that are arguably just as good, if not better. Let the Glock fans commence their bombardment.

  • Glock are like riced out Honda Civics, every kid has one, and they brag about the VTEC. Yes, it works, but they're waaay too common and boring.

  • Ever since the mid eighties the Glock 17 has set the benchmark by which the rest of the gun world compares their firearms! What's not to like? It's light, compact, easy to work on, hold 17 rounds in the mag, and is insanely accurate!

In my book the Glock 17 scores a 925/1000...

  • Not a fan of glocks but these vids are fun to watch keep em coming Larry :)
