Plus, the attrition rate for marines is 10% and the attrition rate for seals is 75, army special forces around 65%. Recon marines are like 65% too.

Uh, Hi everyone, I'm not a US citizen, I just have sparse knowledge about so many military departments of your country like US marines, navy seals, USMC. etc. So I always had this question on my mind, what's the difference between US marines and US army, are they same? And then who're US Navy seals, I heard they're the toughest and best combatants of US military. Can anyone brief me on this :) Thanks in advance!

The Army is the U.S main Force Mostly land warfare over 1million strong they usually do the occupying while Marine move on, The Navy SEALs are the best of the best to understand what theyre about look up a documentary on youtube Their selection is 2 years long just be a Navy SEAL they ARE the ELITE of the WORLD

@vivs005 The marines are a lot different from the army first of all not everyone is going to make it through boot camp, and then the army anyone can get in there. Last the Navy Seals are far from being the best, Marines are the toughest and the best of the best and they are the combatants ever they are the ones how get the job done and get there first. @HotSoftBallChick2011 not really though because United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group (seal team 6) and Combat Applications Group(delta force) are the tier one us forces, and considering both come form either seals or the army, I'd say that your wrong. Plus, the attrition rate for marines is 10% and the attrition rate for seals is 75, army special forces around 65%. Recon marines are like 65% too.

@edavisj Marines are essentially non-airborne rangers, there light infantry, rangers just have more training and such, that being said, while they do play a large role in combat operations, rangers are probably more skilled then them overall. There a middle ground between infantry and special forces, but there not the only ones getting stuff done. Mulitple generals have aknowledged special forces as the "glue" of the american efforts in the middle east

@Fork3 1. The US went in with the UN into Korea doe, not just the marines kicking ass they had lots of support.
2. Why use your bayonet when you can kill them from 100 feet out with a rifle?
3. Rangers and Delta are more trained, your comparing infantry to a more specialized solider, so i'll compare a more specially trained soldier to the best trained soldiers.
I have immense respect for the marines, don't get me wrong, Oorah, i know many marines but what I'm saying is that there not #1

@SkyDiverLynx Last time I checked, Pearl Harbour was ran by the Americans and had tons of US troops and big parts of it's fleet there.. It was declared an attack against America by Roosevelt. And Hawaii had been US territory since 1898..

Here in Norway the US embassy had people on the roof monitoring Norwegian people.. And no one knew why.. So they are like that to many of us, but probably not everyone realises it.
