Containers, containers, containers. Small containers, large containers, fun containers, used containers, garage sale containers. Containers. Containers.
Containers, containers! In the end of the day you will become a container yourself! Honestly small studios are a nightmare, and with containers they become another nightmare, because you must have all your stuff packed in a container, as you were constantly going to a trip, or waiting a removal. Buy less, take the rest to the secondhandshop or charity. And leave only the masterpieces, that you really, really need and use- be ecofriendly. Reducing consuming, save money for a bigger flat.
Instead of containers I would recommend 'vertical space'. From floor to ceiling find ways to use up vertical space. Prop up the bed, and bed-side table and use the space underneath. The space above the windows and doors are great for shelves, not to mention the backs of doors (especially closet doors).
I find the more containers/bins/baskets that I have the more crap I'll hold on to because I now have a place to put it all. This "container" method does not work for me. It just makes for a bigger nightmare.
I have to agree. I live in a small apartment and if I had containers all over the place, I'd go nuts. Come to think of it, most folks I know who live in the suburbs have containers of "stuff" they don't need. That's not organized, imho.
@weezlose I live in a studio apartment with limited closet and storage space. My sister lives in a big house in the suburbs with tons of closet space. If you come to a party at my house, I will hang your coat in the closet. If you go to a party at my sister's house, she will put your coat on the bed because all her closets are jammed full of junk.
strangely, i have known 2 people who had studio apts and both were 'upstairs' apts with a downstairs door. i know, right? so like when you go in, you go up this enormous flight of stairs that's yours, with all this enormous wall space you can't get to, and wasted sq footage you can't use, then at the top is the tiny box you get to live in.
Mine. I live in a 560 sf studio loft. It has the kitchen, living room and solarium in the bottom, and the walk in closet and bedroom upstairs :) It's possible

How can you convince your grown family to comply? Like your idea but I am the only one that will do the homework.
