Every dog and cat my family has ever had has been a stray. And, contrary to what some say, Rottweilers are incredibly gentle dogs as long as you treat them right. All our dogs with an exception of 2 have been Rottweilers and they were all big dumb sweethearts. Unfortunately, most died on the road after getting off their leashes and one was killed by a heartless neighbor who struck him in the head. :(
3 rescues in my house - 2 dogs and a cat. Never bought an animal, never will. I've had my oldest dog for 14 years now, my cat for about 6 years and our newest edition is only a few months old.
I prefer big dogs, they're large, huggable, strong, and perfect as couch potato pillows, I would take all those big dogs! The smaller the dog, the more energetic. seriously.
omg i cried when i watched this...I love animals and would do anything to save them!!!!!!!!Its just soooo sad when the ppl at the shelter put them down...And yes, they should give them away for free and when im educated to bcome a vet i want to help millions of animal of every kind and i think that ppl should leave A LOT OF LAND FOR WILD ANIMALS!!!!!AND PPL NEED TO STOP ABUSING ANIMALS!!!!!!!!!Its just heartbracking!!!!!! =(
It would be easier if they would give the animals away instead of making people pay. In Indiana they give them their shots (which is good) then sell them (for a small fee) If they are gonna kill an animal they need to have a free dog kennel that gives them to people and let them decide weather to get shots or not. Thats better than just killing them anyway
The shelter system needs some sort of income though. A lot of adoption fees in Indiana are pretty steep because of everything we do for the dogs. Vetting and food for a large number of animals is very expensive, and giving dogs away for free doesn't help. If you can't afford the adoption fee, you can't afford a pet. It's that simple.
@smilemcg Perhaps a source of income or at least reduced expense on supplies like food and medicines should be the pet food and pet medicine manufacturers. They, naturally, would expect documentation on what your efforts are which require good record keeping. Considering the over all cost to the community for unwanted pets, the adoption fees can be reduced.
i live in El Paso and i have seen the Unwanted Pets it make me cry and to @welcomegohome El Paso is the 21 big cities in the USA and it is be the border so what so is California and Arizona
Makes me feel glad i've saved the ones i have know, but I know i can't take anymore in the house (3 large dogs, 1 medium, and 1 small special needs dog; plus 5 cats and 2 ferrets). Full house!

Cyanidesin 2 years ago
she is not, it just that no one will buy a giant dog, i myself only like puppies
kklloopp 2 years ago
@Cyanidesin yes! its not that people in general prefer little dogs to big dogs, its the misconception that big dogs are "hard" to take care of.
