Look into the work of the Clinton administration (with leadership by Al Gore) to shrink the government...then look at the budget surpluses created under Clinton/Gore...then look into the size of the federal government and rampant deficits of the Bush administration.

Budget surpluses mean the government has over taxed its people. Big government is sitting on the people's money. Clinton grew the government with money. That is contradictory to how Founding Fathers designed this country. Bill Clinton can't stop gloating about how much money he makes, Hillary made a killing at the Rose Law firm. Forrest Gore makes a killing on Occidental Oil stocks. These people are big government, for they love control and money, lots of it.

I truly feel bad that you have been lied to by the pro 87 crowd demonizing oil companies. Oil companies are big because they sell allot of their product. Until somebody can beat them at their own game, they remain the top earner. But you should know better, goverment is not the answer. If you want alternative energy like many do, then support private industry to make headway and get things done.

Hiya, I was on the low emissions vehicle car tour promoting prop 87 back in September and the basic idea is to put a severance tax on drilling oil in CA (like they have in every other state where they drill) to raise $4 billion over the next 10 years to put toward rebates for consumers who purchase LEVs and research to develop technologies to reduce vehicle emissions.
