Press the select button and Kirby will discreetly dispose of his current ability.
Or you can run straight into an enemy, which makes you get rid of any ability as well. ;-)

In some levels you can just float Kirby up to the top of the screen and float him across the entire level. It doesn't work for every level but for some it works really well.
