Anyone here who drives new Pilot with "cylinder management" technology? Is this where 2 (or 3) cylinders are switched off, if not needed?

I want to know what do you think about it; like it or hate it?

@kemcho12345 the cylinder management is hard to notice it goes to 4 cylinders when barely pushing the gas. but with that 3.5L I-VTEC engine that thing will pull. pretty strong for a cylinder management car. i like it. and the mileage is pretty amazing for a V6 3.5L. my IL5 chevy colorado gets way worse gas with one less cylinder.

@kemcho12345 I think it's pretty good..... it really improves stop-and-go fuel economy, much better than other SUV's of its class; even though it's rated about the same by the EPA, in the real world, it's much more efficient.

I like where the gear shifter is!!! I like the extra storage the middle console gives me.

Its a great to have when you have 4 kids and two still in booster seats.

I looked at other suvs and choose this, it just drove more solid than the tahoe, or explorer

I wouldn't call this a crossover. I thought that a crossover was a cross between a minivan and an SUV. This doesn't seem like a minivan at all. I would call it an SUV even though it is not as rugged as a Commander or a Pathfinder. Doesn't it have SUV like features like locking differential? Also it a a four wheel drive instead of all wheel drive.

Actually I found out this was a unibody. I thought it was a body on frame. I think thats why its a crossover.

Did they say how it improved? I think it's a horrible crossover! They made it look as ugly as the PT Cruiser! The interrior isn't much better than the previous model. This is definantly a downfall.

i dont really like this new Pilot. the old Pilots were nothing special but this looks even more boxy and bland than before. Also, the interior is horrid! Not only is it fugly as hell, but there are so many useless buttons and dials? theres like 500 buttons on the steering wheel alone! Honda/Acura, please dont fuck up anymore!! i used to love ur cars but c'mon. what is goin on lately?

I'm mixed about this design. If they could have kept the old front end design, but kept the new boxy shape, made it longer, and used this wonderful interior, it'd be my dream pilot. for SUVs, my family has a 05 Tahoe, and it's gas milage is horrible.

the good: i love the exterior styleing! it has that all american look instead of the crappy wacky foriegn look that some other foreign cross overs have. however, it looks a little too dodge/chrysler/jeep inspired design.

the bad: i hate the location of the gear select. also the dash really is too crowded with buttons.

in the end: ill just stick with the chevy tahoe hybrid, it has the same outside styleing, yet the interior is perfectly layed out, and about the same mpg.

its true hondas last for a long time, i had a 93 accord i just replaced with a new altima, and it had 194,500 miles on it. and i sold it for 1500$!!!! pretty good for a 15 year old sedan with 200,000 miles, a cracked windshield, and a broken radio. i highly recommend hondas and nissans. toyotas are shit though i have a camry and i hate that piece of shit it began to stall out at 100,000 miles.

I totally agree, I'm not a fan of thier newly designed vehicles. The 2009 Pilot, 2008 Accord, 2009 Acura TSX, they just don't look cool anymore. I liked the slightly redesigned look of the 06-07 model of the Accord and the current model of the Civic, but ever since Honda has been dropping the bomb with a lack of cool looking vehicles.

Everything from an overseas manufacturer that is designed for the American market seem to come-out really ugly. Just a few - recent and newly released Honda U.S. Accord, a few Legends, Subaru Impreza sedan, Mitsubishi Galant, Porsche Cayenne... I can surely design something more cohesive and appealing than that, problem is the distastes' for better designs over there.

I agree with you on this. I own two Honda's and am replacing one with an SUV. I have to honestly admit that I am saddened by this new 2009 Pilot and that I really like the look of the Acadia. The inside of the 2009 Pilot looks ok but the outside is unappealing. I guess you could buy one and just say, hey she is great for night time driving?
