anyone know if there will be a skype app for google TV? The video calling is great but I cant use it because all my friends are on skype. Also I tried using chatroulette and ustream with google TV..the pages loaded but the Flash file that ask you to select your camera and audio source was blanked out. Seems you can do ustream or anytime of flash video streaming with it. Is it possible they will allow that in the future?

So the major networks are not allowing Google TV access, they want us to pay for access to their network programming like we pay for cable. What I have a problem with is the networks MAKING THE DECISION FOR ME on what I can and can't watch! Google may be skynet but the major networks are Big Brother!Google created something with free and open access to everything for everyone and the monkey wrench is money by the ones that have it! Bought the SONY Google Tv yesterday and have been impressed with the integration of internet with tv. things to point out: 1) you need HD reciever for watching Live TV 2) Browser has some lag but I am more than sure it is because my internet provider sucks 3) Some websites are not compatible with Google Chrome 4) i connect my external hard drive and it did recognize mp3s on it

Even as a die hard apple fan, have to say at this moment in time this looks favourable over apple tv. The only - point is that amazon on demand isnt in the uk yet, nor netflix so the only on demand service straight to your tv is apple.

@DroidNoid You do realize AT&T U-verse and Verizon FIOS both use Windows Media Center as their base for DVRs right? Microsoft already has Windows Media Center embedded in every PC with Vista and Windows 7. In fact, I just finished watching a recorded episode of the office on it and there is a hulu and a netflix app for it. Don't forget that there are Windows Media Center settop boxes coming out as well.

I recommend you sign up for a windows live ID and try out windows live essentials. They just released a new version this week too. I love google and android but Microsoft isn't evil.

What's the chances of Sony with help from Google putting GoogleTV onto all their PS3's and BluRay players? that'd instantly bring GTV to millions and millions of people who already have those set boxes. Many people have brought this idea up, so I hope you would consider it.

@thedavecraig i had no idea the ps3 has such limited memory. also i don't know if the PS3 CPU and GPU is powerful enough to run GTV. I figure if the PS3 can run high graphics demanding video games, it should be enough to run a web browser on a TV set.

@portalplayer You're spot on. I blame Sony for that mistake. The PS3 "does everything" except open 2 web browser windows at the same time. And you can't watch hulu or vevo and many other websites, because of the outdated flash player on the PS3 which sony has no intentions of updating (possibly because of the limited ram). All the more power to GoogleTV :)

It's a great idea but, for me it won't be a big change, in the last year I have a laptop connected with an hdmi cable to my 50' tv in my living room, I have a wireless keyboard and a mouse and everything I watch this days is s live stream.

I watch movies on netflix,hulu and more great websites that let's you watch things in HD, At the end I end up giving up the cable companies.

Actually, Apple TV was around for a while and noone really liked it since it connected to a computer. Google announced Google TV, and right away Apple announced that they were moving Apple TV in the same direction.
