  • just watched the 2005 live version of Great southern land! Still sounds fabulous, well done for putting these on here. I have not heard them since i was in Kuringi high shool. Got so used to INXS, Midnight Oil and Hudos Guros that they slipped from my memory until i started searching 80' favourites recently. Nice one Melbourne girl! Matt x

  • I am an avid fan of ICE HOUSE since 1987.I am so glad that until now I can watch their MUSIC VID.Of all their songs,my fav is ELECTRIC BLUE. I like their live performance. the are great and nothing change. FELMAR of ILOILO,PHILIPPINES

  • first concert I ever saw when I was 15 was IceHouse, 24 years ago ! .... GREAT and STILL GREAT !

  • Thanks for posting these. I'm from Melbourne but live overseas so couldn't be there. Thanks to Icehouse for playing for Sound Relief. Makes me (even more) proud of my favourite band!

  • Aaaaaaaaaaaawsome love ya work

  • like Daryl Hall

  • guy's got a golden voice

  • Timeless sound, timeless talent. Just brilliant

  • Re Great Southern Land

I'm in Canada and hate it here. We need a new anthem here. Can we borrow yours and change it to Great Northern Land? Hmmmmm maybe not as no land is better than your land. Any sympathetic mid aged ladies want to marry a Canadian and thaw him out?

  • Awesome to see that this guy still loves to sing this song.

  • love this band lol@doesn't sound the same without the mullet!

  • Icehouse deserve more credit, they are not well known in Europe, I love OZ music : )

  • come to Germany in the Summer time for concerts please guys

  • tour USA pleaseeeee!!!!!!!!

  • Bloody awesome guys, what a credit to the Aussie music industry, and still sounding as good as ever Iva...keep up this classic 80's

  • no one does not make music like this anymore, or come close to sounding as good. good job and well done for uploading this fantastic clip....

  • woahh.....New Wave back from the 80's

  • Is he wearing a Roger Waters Dark Side of the Moon shirt? I didn't know this guy was fan of Pink Floyd.

I remember this song as one of my favorites from the 80's. It's the only Icehouse CD I have.

  • However this doesn’t change the fact that their music is awesome and will live on forever no matter how many years and grey hairs pass. Benny from ABBA commented in an interview a few years ago that even though ABBA had split and they're now old, he asked people to remember them as they were. So whenever I get down about my music being old I think of that.

  • Some have commented that it is really depressing to see these guys 20 plus years later looking old - and admittedly it is, but I feel a bit worse cos I was born in '86 and absolutely love music from this era and of course Ice House, it's so awesome to see and hear their music, then I see how they are today, one extreme to the other 'young to old' in a split second, suddenly the music I love is now old. Depressing.

  • one of the best songs ever written and produced by the legendary john oates!

  • @reg12269 John Oates wrote this??

  • @KISSarmyist John Oates co wrote it with Iva

  • where's the motherfucking keytar???

  • Man Iva can shred on the Strat!

  • Wow it's brought down in music key.

  • Awesome performance. I am a drummer by trade and I think the drums on this performance sounded better than the original!! Thanks for posting!

  • They still sound good after 20 plus years!

  • One of the truly best songs of the 80s. Every time I hear it, the song brings back countless memories and emotions.

  • awesome song! I love it! and mullet or no mullet; they still look and sing darn good for what 20+ years ago? (except the drummer; he apparantly hasn't aged at all lmao) icehouse rocks!

  • What a nice song good remembers

  • Gosh, they sure had to drop it a lot from the original key...

  • fuck that guy has aged

  • JUST DOESN'T SOUND THE SAME WITHOUT THE MULLET :(

  • @sinnuh lol...the mullet is important

  • @sinnuh hahahahahaha!!!! funny dude ;-)

  • I think this is well done. It's a little jarring to see the lead singer go from the King Mullet (all business in the front - all party in the back) to being follicly-challenged. But I think they sound very good -- particularly for a live performance. Is that the same drummer from the original video? He looked about 14 in the video.

  • Excelente Musica, siempre la escuchaba en los 80´s.

Vengan a tocar a Lima, aqui tienen muchos fans.

  • @MrJluis22 Hola MrJluis !!!!

  • Iva should have hung up his mic and turned in his hearing aid a long time ago. This performance is like watching a washed up Mike Tyson get hammered silly by Lennox Lewis, then having his face run over by a ship afterwards. And a dog pissing on the whole hot steaming mess afterwards. Like that.

  • @RavishingBeyond thats not a hearing buddy, its a small speaker to help with the backing track music.

  • @RavishingBeyond thats not a hearing aid buddy, its a small speaker to help with the backing track music.

  • @RavishingBeyond

U clearly sound like some1 who would like Lady Gaga & crap like that aka

some1 with NO taste in good music.

  • @RavishingBeyond Singing is hard to do in general. Singing well is even harder. It takes talent first, and then practice everyday. If you don't, you will lose what you've gained. Years that pass will take it's toll no matter how well you sing. Iva still sounds magnificent, and it's been over 20 years since '87. And, Electric Blue is a difficult song to sing, period.

  • Yes they are the Viagra generation now. Rock on Grandpa!

  • You can tell they're having fun & it's not of the vulgar variety that we get bombarded with daily !! Class ACT !!

  • An amazin' band... but, definitely the phisical age won the race.. but they pass without troubles de time test!!!!

  • Iva Davies was so cute in the original video... :( he reminded me of David Bowie.

It makes me sad to see how he's aged.

  • One of the best songs of the 80's, still brilliant now. Icehouse, the best band to come out of Australia.

  • @neilnotneal thats a ballsy statement, no?

  • @nwpamundsen Yep. Thought it then, nothing's changed my mind since. I have nothing against the incredible Crowded House, INXS, or others, but . . . :D

  • They still sound great

  • Screw you 90's fags!....Icehouse rules!

  • Icehouse was my favorite in the late 80's and I have always loved Electric Blue. I was always annoyed that no live performances of it were ever available, thanks for the post!

  • i love it.years pass but he retains the touch which for me is one of the best musicians in history.iva the best.thank for the video.

  • The singer would looked even cooler if he'd kept his Mullet Hair!

  • @islandfocus2 Agreed - LOVED his long curly MULLET - Wonder if he could grow it back? :)

  • It sucks when great singers from the past get really old before our very eyes. Well, not really but it just seems that way. A lot of years have gone by and I'm sure Iva Davies did not live the healthiest of lifestyles. He IS Aussie after all. Keep those pints coming mate! lol. It sucks too that you can tell they have to lower the key of the songs they used to belt out so effortlessly in their youth. I'd rather not hear it this way. Thank God for recording technology.

  • LOL This song takes me back to the 1st grade! I miss the 80's.

  • loved them in the 80s,anyone remember a bikeshop in trim 1987?

  • It's funny when Iva Davies was younger he sounded so much like David Bowie. I know he worked with David Bowie and many others but he always put me in mind of and sounded like David Bowie and now that he's older he even still sounds like him older if you know what I mean. Great singer.

  • now bad at all, for the age

  • Thanx for sharing this! Was a USA fan back in the day...in fact I still have the vinyl album this song was on! Yes, we are all older, but his eyes are still the same and he sounds great! Great video!

  • Do not understand why bands or singers of the 80s now look SO OLD OR THAT OUT OF THE 60S

  • Great performance and great energy from this band after all these years. I hope we'll hear more new material from them...

  • buaaaaaaaaaaaa

    He was soooo cute

It´s the shame We will old

  • Look I so old to young eyes? We're all getting old...

  • dang their old but still great

  • Is anyone from the original band there besides the singer?

  • @stacyINC I'm sure the guy on the guitar with the black jumper to Iva's right is an original member but i don't know his name...

  • @lancashirehotpot434 not sure if this was what you meant, but if you mean the bass player then no. he is actually my bass teacher and days before the concert he told me he couldnt make it to sydney for the show

  • @lancashirehotpot434 Most of em look like studio for hire musicians haha

  • Wow! I have this song on my cd here in Texas, I've been here the last year. Anyhow, great song, I didn't even realize he looks mature in is new age. Great song, hands down!!!

  • Somebody fell asleep at the soundboard and forgot to turn the sax on. Fail.

  • my favourite song as a teenager, sounds brilliant in hearing it played live here. thanks for posting. Brings back great memories

  • does anyone know if there will be new songs from them ?

  • Wow : great !!!!!!!!! It´s about 26 years ago but they play it and sings it if it´s a hit from now !!

  • Unforgettable song. Great Iva Davies!!!!

  • awesome song....awesome band

  • sounds very good just needs the right set of speakers...luv ya Iva Davies <3

  • I'm a live sound engineer by trade, I run a regional production company and I have heard some absolutely disgusting acts in my time, these guys have remained on of my many favorite acts in Australia. For the person below who dares rubbish this live performance, hang your head low.. This entire production was put on with all performers volunteering their time, and bucks worth of equipment supplied by Jands Production Services for the benefit of bushfire victims in Victoria.

  • @dildo983 As an american who lives here in the United States may just say AMEN!!!

  • @dildo983 need to do it for Queensland now mate.

  • @dildo983 dude.... your comment absolutely ROCKS. All my respect.

  • @dildo983 i cant take you seriously with your youtube name being dildo

  • I don't get all the bitching? This sounds phenomenal.

  • I agree! I think it's a better version than most I've seen from when the album first came out!!

  • The live sound is shit on this video understandably, don't blame him for that.

At least he doesn't dye his bloody hair like some of those other ones, like Paul McCartney...Fuck !

  • Sounds pretty good to me. Nice!

  • That's not a hearing aid it is an electric devise that singers wear so they can hear themselves.

  • Man, get a clue. Just like the other person responded, it is an electric device that most singers use on stage. And the performance is perfectly fine. I think YOU need a hearing aid.

  • Okay, might I recommend that you bring up Iva's performance from last year at the finale of the Battle of the Choirs where he was a judge. He is singing Great Southern Land. This will give you a much better example of how he sounds now. Give this one a listen. It is good.

  • So I read all the comments before I listen to this expecting all sorts of horrible sounds but instead the performance sounds great. The fact that the guy can still perform after all these years is awesome for 80's fans like myself.

  • amen!

  • Poor guy. I saw the original music video and he looked alot like Caruso from CSI Miami, except with long locks. Now he's very old, and you can tell by the way his voice is singing. His backup vocalists are doing their best to make up for his aged, faltering voice. Yeah, help me baby, tell me what can I do. Retire, that's what. It was a great song, and he was a good looking boy back then. Thank you for the music.

  • My mate got guitar lessons from him and he said he was crap cos he was so out of it all the time haha

  • he is not very old, he is only 54! Good lord, I would hate to hear what you call someone that is 94! The performance is just fine. You are too critical or need a hearing aid.

  • @kurosakikun777 Caruso from CSI???

  • Is magic

  • can someone please explain to me why these songs from the best era ever the 80's sound crap when they recreate them like this in todays enviroment surely they can get the instuments to sound like they were in the 80's

  • It is a live, recorded performance. They dont always sound that great. Give em a break. You get up and try it.

  • We want the mullet back!

  • I agree with you.. the mix seems a little off but otherwise he sounds pretty good! It's not like Rod Stewart who sounds like a choking cat now.

  • @rivetbutt LMFAO!!!!

  • I will love this song 4ever! If I could only see him live on stage again... only for one more time. But I guess it still remains a dream.

  • What in the world are you talking about?! He is singing and hitting the notes just fine. I know people that were there at this concert and they said it was great! Clean out your ears.

  • Iva is the man!!!

  • Good to see he got rid of that god awful mullet lol. Great song though.

  • One of my all time favorite songs ever, loved it in 87-88, love it now, will love it on the day I die!

  • @NeoGee ok so when you die I will make sure they play it!! lol

  • Come to US!

  • The tone, the nature of his voice continues to belong to an angel.

    Thanks a lot, justagirlinmelbourne !!!

  • It's nice to see Davies performing at all; he was seriously raked over by the North American recording industry and never got his dues.

  • Is this really Iva Davies?? When this song came out he was in his mid-40s, I believe, so that would put him in his mid-60s.

That said, I'm not gonna bag on the man. But damn! What happened to his voice??

And I'm still not thoroughly convinced that this is him! Wow.....

  • He's actually 54 years old. So not that old.

  • Rock on! Icehouse!!! Great band. I still play my Man of colours CD in my car.

  • if you do 'headstands' every other day, stay out of the sun, and dont eat all that processed food and crappy fast food you could live to be quite old. or you will die a very 'good looking corpse'.

  • Where are the other orignal memembers?

  • rite? im with you. he didnt wanna get every member together since it wasnt a full tour(which,i read, he doesnt prefer anyway)

  • P.S. Glad the saxaphoneist sounds just as good.

  • I don't mean to make unfair comparisons, but Freddie Mercury my favorite singer, who as you propaply know died of aids .Was recording up until six months before his death regardless of how sick he was, and he sounded as amazing as ever. like I said before, I know that it is unfair to compare Iva to Freddie, but my point is that this has nothing to do with age, Freddie was 46. This is a case of simply not taking care of his voice, which is a shame. loved this song, loved his voice as well.

  • wonder what the girl in the video looks like now?

  • mullet will make a come bacvk!!!lol

  • where is his mullet?

  • i would never recognize iva today..i jusr remember him with the mullet with brown hair. he sounds the same but still good.

  • I hope whoever I'm married to looks as good as Iva Davies when he's 50. Goddamn.

  • I'm guessin you're nowhere near 50? lol I'm a young fella too. Yeah he looks good for his age, probably because he's not american. No offence to anyone.

  • None taken - God knows we have some nasty habits over here.

I wanted to add, though, that it's very much an individual thing, the voice degradation. Genetics, health, environment, so many things contribute. Some singers go well into their seventies singing well, while others lose quality. Take Johnny Mathis. Once the late 1970s rolled around, his voice had changed DRASTICALLY from his heyday!

My own voice is steadily getting better in quality, but not in falsetto range, sadly...lol

  • Hey, give us 50+ guys a break already.

  • Iva is still as gorgeous as ever

  • Beautiful song!

  • He's still fantastic!!!

  • they need the black guy with the glasses to join the band again, he rocked on the keys!

  • Excellent!

The "pitch" is a little bit low, isn't it? The original version is more high.

  • Yes the pitch is about a 4th lower.

Old age and gravity will keep you from those high notes every time!

  • He still sounds good even if the key is dropped too low. There was no reason to drop the key though, there are no "high notes" in this song, nor is he THAT old. Once you could hit the notes properly, old age doesn't hinder your range. I think they chose to switch the key for another reason, not because of his inability to still hit the notes. His voice is just as versatile and powerful as it was 25 yrs ago.

  • Gravity and muscule degeneraion will hurt ANY singer as they get older. It is a physical certainty. Everyone does this.

  • Granted that age will very gradually change the quality of your voice depending on how well you take care of it, singing is not supposed to be a painful chore, no matter what age you reach...unless there's some directly associated health issue in the way. Hitting notes is not about "muscling" your way through them, it's more about co-ordination. There are many singers whose voices age gracefully, cuz they take care of it & maintain correct technique..even after age slightly changes their tone

  • COMETOANEND: Sounds like you're not a singer. Take it from a singer who takes care of his voice and knows all about what it takes to continue to perform well: Age DOES play a role. I can't hit the (very!) high falsetto notes that I could as a 20-year-old, for example.

THEINDIANDOCTOR is correct. It is a physical certainty. Case closed, and cometoanend. lol...

  • Bravo! 5 stars!

  • Still that same amazing voice...and over 20 years on. Incredible. True Aussie Rock icons.

  • Iva, do you ever read all these wonderful comments about you and Icehouse? If you don't, you should be. You are so loved by people from all over the world. You were one of my favorite bands from the 80's. Tour!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I never got to see you live and will always regret that. Thank God for YouTube.

  • Someone forgot to turn the Sax's microphone on, although the rainfall before Icehouse's set screwed a few things up. I was there when it happened.

And I remembered when the front oval was open to the rest of the crowd.

  • Is that a bad thing re: the sax!

  • Well, the sax player - 2:03-2:09 - looks like a douche playing without the microphone turned on. But I remember the sound system failing before (or after?) the Presets did their set, and they were performing before Icehouse.

I could go on and on about the sound worker guys from Sound Relief (like what happened to Coldplay and Little Birdy), but I'll leave it there.

  • tour iva baby!! and yes free to air should of telecast this fukkk fox

  • what happen to his mullet

  • He aged and is now a grey man lol.

  • I prefer the look from back in the 80s. But nobody stays young forever. Not even you.

  • When oh when is the Bi-Polar Poems album going to get released Iva? It gets circa 1M hits when you search google? Good to see the band back in action again sounding as good as ever. Please come to the UK!!! Look at all the other bands making a comeback these days!

  • Iva... tour NZ.

    Please..

  • GOO STEEEVEE!!!!!!!

  • apart from iva who else is from that 87-88 man of colours era here on stage, i know they had a lot of changes in the band in the 80s

  • The only guys there from the Man of Colours line-up are Iva and drummer Paul Wheeler.

  • Fantastic song

Iva's always been a fav - love him!!

  • thats a great example of aussie music its sad to think theres no more music coming out of australia like this!

  • I live in OZ and I hope they will do an OZ wide tour again!

  • If you tour again, I'll fly to Oz to see you guys!

  • IVA stands alone!!he is one of australias treasures!! all his great songs cant be forgotten!!!we need to see him again LIVE with his icehouse band!!! i saw him at kinsellas 10 or 12 years ago..blew my mind!!! old rocker jimmy the killer
