Funny enough several bands are linked by certain people in the industry. Which isn't general public knowledge. Anthrax, Alice Cooper, Metallica, ACDC, KISS and a few others are actually related to each other no matter their rock/metal classification. This is partly why you see them doing covers of each others music sometimes or the other artists written/collaborative work. This is why for example Pat Benatar used Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights" song.

@Zrinschchuck Motley Crue didn't really become Glam Metal until later. They had the look (though even that was more extreme than other Glam bands), but their first couple albums were purely Heavy Metal, and actually quite good.

Glam Metal, in reality, is nothing more than Pop Rock that had the Metal label slapped on it to get sales due to the growing popularity of real Metal. There is absolutely no way you can consider Poison or Cinderella Metal bands.

you're half right about glam being pop rock

they weren't "normal" metal, but they still had strong songs which put them into the metal genre

you can't expect from a glam metal band to have heavy metal songs, they are easier than from example Enter Sandman, but still, glam metal isn't a heavy metal genre with lots of make-up, it's glam metal

a couple of things... Glam Bands are Gay L.A. Metal. not meaning that they were gay... but rather that their music was sophomoric. Plus I would not really consider them in tune with their feelings or comfortable with their sexuality since they were mass produced by record companies like they did with boy bands.
