Thank you for posting this song!! I only speak English but I worked in a salsa Disco in New York and I can remember my friend translating this song for me then because I had no idea what it was about... such a sad song! I hope people have changed their views since this song was written!

@Doeboy555 first of all, dont say 'tranny' its a derogatory term. To answer your query...its hard to tell. As a trans person, I immediately saw the story of a transgender person in this song but the writer of the song apparently confused trans and gay people together since he apparently intended this to be a song about a gay man with AIDS in the 80s. I definitely see 'Simon' as a trans woman, which is insulting because they never use female pronouns in the song, even when she's dying.

This one wasn't necessary for me, because when I started dancing Salsa long ago and saw friends of mine in Mexico, it was this song that they explained to me, with about the same words you use in your intro: Salsa is about all things in life, not just fun and love. Actually it was first summer of 56 but then changed to summer of 63.... as well as simon die in 86 then changed to 93
