Thank you for posting this song!! I only speak English but I worked in a salsa Disco in New York and I can remember my friend translating this song for me then because I had no idea what it was about... such a sad song! I hope people have changed their views since this song was written!
@Doeboy555 first of all, dont say 'tranny' its a derogatory term. To answer your query...its hard to tell. As a trans person, I immediately saw the story of a transgender person in this song but the writer of the song apparently confused trans and gay people together since he apparently intended this to be a song about a gay man with AIDS in the 80s. I definitely see 'Simon' as a trans woman, which is insulting because they never use female pronouns in the song, even when she's dying.
@gomika haha dude u replyed to the wrong user...what in the fucking world are you talking about....and dont say tranny...tranny comes from acient greek mythology..ill stop here because id school you. dont come here and spill w.e kinda bull shit your talking about here on my home lands beautiful music and heritage
I really appreciate your translations. This one wasn't necessary for me, because when I started dancing Salsa long ago and saw friends of mine in Mexico, it was this song that they explained to me, with about the same words you use in your intro: Salsa is about all things in life, not just fun and love. If there is a wishlist: I love Willie Colon's Idilio, and it would be great to find it in your Famous Salsa Songs Translated series.
Thank you! I've been hearing these songs every weekend at the clubs, its so fantastic to finally be able to understand that, like you said, salsa songs aren't always mindless happy music. :)

@castillobonce4, simon is like a cat... Has many lives and therefore can die in different years lol!

In the chorus, he's talking about human nature and comparing it to a tree. If a tree is born crooked, its going to be crooked.
"No se puede corregir, a la naturaleza" "Palo que nace doblao, jamas su tronco enderesa"
para siempre = forever
Towards the end, his dad is curious about the well being of his son, not furious or mad.
All in all, excellent translation, sir.
