  • I hear the song by The Simpsons

  • im a metal person... yet i just cant stop listening to this song :)

  • @twisterfreak23 nothing wrong with that music is for everybody. Music is probably the best lover, great music accepts and will never reject you. It makes heartbreak or any kind of pain seem like a waste of precious living time.

  • @grayearmuffs0o amen to that.

  • Clsssic song!

  • thumbs up if you're here because of the simpsons

  • I just like this kind of songs..and i can tell you this song is really AMAZING!!!!!!i'm only 13

  • This should've been the ending song of Bioshock

  • there's a music video for this song! I saw it in TheMissmusicvids channel.

  • No one can sing a hit better than the original artists-its not just fact, but a sad reality. Sad because other followers that admire his song just falter, try, try, try, but it never comes out right. Phil-you are the pioneer of music.

  • @jabrown45100 That's often the case, but what's better is always relative and a matter of personal opinion, but I would like to say:-

Hurt by Johnny Cash blows the original version off the planet, what do you say?

  • @Zipgunn1

right, or maybe just used to it from the beginning artist. To make your point even bono fide more and fact, Johnny Cash's hits were legend and sounded only excellent from him. And I liked him as a person. But sorry to say, his style of music was lightyears from my taste. My parents loved J. Cash, friends, relatives, etc., except me. I just don't like his style of music.

  • @Zipgunn1 couldn't agree more..no huge Cash fan here but damn if his version doesn't put a tear in my ear every time I hear it.

  • God Bless your Heart Phil Phillips, your voice will live forever--THANKS FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS TO MUSIC WITH AWESOME ARTISTIC TALENT

  • Phil Phillips was and always a great singer! It was an outright INJUSTICE that even after his Top of the Charts Hit --Sea Of Love that smashed all other songs for the top 40, when the rights to his song was robbed from Phil. He only received $6,800 for the royalties. Of course he was furious as anyone would be, after all the heart and hard work put into the making of it. Im not sure of the details, just know Phil, got the short end of the deal-unduly unfair.

  • is phil Phillips still alive

  • @resqume853 yes, hes 85 (according to Wikipedia lol)

  • A family cherished song on a Sunday afternoon after meal time.

  • Gracias a todos los que pueden compartir esta música recordando con nostalgia y amor tantos momentos felices.....

  • Comment removed

  • @deadforsakenn --You are sad

  • @deadforsakenn Here take this candy and go play in the corner. Never realize the internet got to its point we now see because of the present 68 year olds. Have someone subtract 25 from 68 then subtract that from the current year and tell you about the state of the internet back then. (I know math it is hard but it can be done).

Still watch for mirrors, you might not like what you see.

  • @DQDarwin I just clicked your name and when i saw Canada i knew this post will be short.

Kid ...i know that you were victim of fathers incest and i know other kids were stealing you money in school but thats not the reason to whine over internet ....

I mean ..I know you trip in ur head that you are Tony Montana...But please...jump off the bridge and do world a favour you stinky little scum.

Typical sociopath. Morons like you usually end on americasmostwanted ...fuck off psycho traumized defect

  • @deadforsakenn that took you 3 weeks to come up with.Your a waste of time enough said:)

  • @DQDarwin Yeah child ...it took me 3 weeks...I am not 20 hours infront of monitor like you are...Pathethic nolifer trying to cover his anger with fake smiles....

    So weak...

I mean..i am thinking now..and i really don't know what to say....because ..theres no hope 4 ur sad life for sure...and..i tried to teach you ,son, but no hope 4 you..

Go go please reply again..just to show me and other people how i was right about you.Right about you that you cannot take truth so u must whine and spam

  • @DQDarwin Internet top guys..I love this sort of morons.

You lived ,you live and you will die in imaginary world...

Theres no hope for your sad and pathethic life.

Please ,give us more drama :)

  • stupit? that´s our opinion, even if it is, so what?.........I´d rather be stupid, childish, inocent and happy than an intelectual and intelligent jerk. We´ll all die together anyway regardless our stupidity or our lack of it. I´d rather be a kid all my life and never knowing how stupid I am.

  • Very nice!!

  • ive nver heard the original version but i LOVE the one from the movie Juno.!!

  • it's a cover by Cat Power

  • I dig Cat Power but nothing beats the original version by the man who wrote it.

  • u said it motherfucker!!!

  • AWSUM!

    MOOZ

  • Cat powers version is better

  • @ilovejackblack4444 dumbass

  • Sick of their wars, sick of their economic collapses, sick of their pornography, sick of their usury, sick of their lies, sick of their deceitfulness. God please help us all from these evil scum running the world. God bless all human beings. Our leaders or should I say dictators aren't human.

  • someones emotional.

  • Thank for Posting this Classic Swamp-Pop song. Someone mentions the emotion of the singer. This is all part of the Swamp-Pop music, perhaps that is one of the reason swamp-pop is still doing well in Louisiana and East Texas. Thanks again for the Post!

  • oh man, I just cried. I liked the Cat Power cover a lot but the original definitely takes the cake. Gotta love the classics.

  • I like this version better because it has more emotion

  • Love Song!(L)_(L)

  • This was the song of the prom of 1959. We were so innocent!

  • @19thcentury No you weren't, the biggest carnard, that the 60's brought on the sex revolution, actually, anyone who looks at the 50's objectivily, will realize, particularily in the second half of the 50's, new ideas exploded in every field. "Church, kitchen and kids" were big for the WW2 and depression generation, but bubbling underneath, was a tidal wave of change, that was planted in 50's flowered in the 60's. Back then, people did it, didn't talk so much about it!
  • @19thcentury not by choice!

  • Actually, Robert Plant's version is really far from this one.

  • I like cat power's version better for it's modernity, but this one has definitely earned some major respect from me. Great song!

  • my girlfriend(soon to be wife) dedicated cat power's cover of this song to me.

when i listened to it it sounded extremely familiar and remembered i had THIS one in my "old shit" music folder, which is filled with music from the 20's-60's time period.

i listened to it and feel like singing it to her.. aha..

    i love her so much,

    i miss her so much..

    fuck

  • Sounds spooky!

  • This song brings back so many good memories.

    Mooz

  • watch the film same name as song al pahcino classic

  • youll be suprise how much chick dig these songs! try it youll see play them on your car they love it!

  • yes i agree with you dude :-D

  • wow i love this song :D and the movie is great, too

    thanks for posting

  • I sing this song to my one-year-old every night when I put him to bed. Of all the versions this is the one I like the best and this is the way I always sing it to him. :) My Aunt shared it with me when we went on a road trip together and I have a lot of fond memories associated with it. I was singing it to my baby long before I ever saw Juno....

  • I Originally listened to Cat Powers Version and i thought that was really good because i like that style more but this original one is great, better than Cat Powers cover

  • I thought the Cat Power version would be better, but this is really good.

  • I love this song and it came out nearly 30 years before I was born!!

  • @ADELECG85 me toooooo

  • Gives me the warm fuzzies - in nearly every form. Original, "original," or its numerous reincarnations... Beautiful AND timeless (which is why a lot of people like this cover or that cover better; what one hears first is often one's favorite version).

Certain people need to learn to respect others' tastes and opinions. And other people need to cease trolling just to spew facts and tell others how wrong they are. Maybe she's right, maybe he's right. Either way, stop bickering. Listen. And let go.

  • cat power and the honeydrippers defo do this tune justice but this is the winner for me everytime. absolute classic!!!

  • Unfortuneatley mate...the day that happens is the day i grow wings.

  • HONEYDRIPPERS

  • who gives a fuck, its a beautiful song and you should leave it at that.

  • Here, This is a promise. I will look for the original 45 in my boyfriends house... And the day I find it, I will take a picture of it post it on here and be done with it, until then this pointless argument is through.

  • I never said it was recorded in the '30's... >_> It was Cookie and the Berry Cups, I'm not around my boyfriends grandfather so I can't ask him but, you were just a musician in the song you obviously don't know where he got the song from, you got ripped off being paid only $55. I know my info's correct and I apologize that you don't know where the song cam from. Im done with your bs.

  • I love this song!!! since I was a teen in the 90's!!

  • This is my wedding song. Ahhhhhhh....

  • This song was recorded in the '50's. Not the 30's... My boyfriends grandfather has the original 45 that he sang in. His producer sold the song to Phil Phillips while the band mates were away for [approx.] $500. and from their Phil Phillips made it a hit.

  • Sea of Love was recorded in 1959. John Phillip Baptiste (aka Phil Phillips was born in 1931. Phil wrote the song, he did not buy it for $500. Phil never had $5 much less $500. He was a share cropper..Someone told you a BS story. You did not even get the damn date of the recording session right..I was there, you , your boyfriend, and his grandfather as well as the "producer" were not.

  • Tell that to the people who own the original 45 with my boyfriends grandfather in it BEFORE Phil Phillips even knew the song existed. Please because Ill continue to laugh at you. YOU were not there sorry. You showed up AFTER the song had been recorded with the ORIGINAL owners.

  • Please tell us the record label and date of what you claim is the original recording, as well as the "artist" who made the recording. Also tell us about the law suit which came about because of the "producers" sale of someone elses song. The 1931 date you whined about is Phil's birth date not the recording date.

  • Oh and just by the way... "You did not even get the damn date of the recording session right"

I never put a date. Fail.

  • I love this song.10 years ago I watched my grandparents dance to this song. Since then, they've both passed, but when I hear this song it brings back my favorite memory of them

  • Just Great... A little better than Bobby Darrins ....

  • a lot better!
