  • you could see that Jimmy was already dead. he didn't move. he wasn't afraid. he was quiet inside. he was empty. After the war he was just a vessel, with no emotions inside.

  • this final scene is mostly poetry than just film making. i must say i felt shocked and amazed at the same time. jimmys line "i died on the trench many years ago" will always be a top moment of the series. i trully believe that the whole thing is a masterpiece.

  • We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields.

  • world war 1....what a waste of lives....a complete pointless war that was fought for the dumbest reasons ever....fucking banks and corporations was getting the best of it out of this war...to think that it was fought b/c "Germany was a threat to freedom" is SO stupid...very sad story

  • @TheVenturino123 The worst war ever, no possible doubt about it.

  • @theghost204 I wouldn't expect to see Darmody in any flashbacks next year or even hear him talked about. They are going 16 months into the future, in part to put the death of Jimmy in the past and to show how the characters like Richard and Gillan and Nucky have moved on. They will want the audience to get interested in the new fictional characters they are bringing in and not keep thinking about Jimmy.

  • No doubt this is when he got wounded by shrapnel.

I wonder (and hope) if they'll do any more Jimmy flashbacks next season. Probably the first episode will largely be about him.

  • i cant beleive this actor is 30..he looks like hes 23 the most

  • This is so crazy this was prolly not his last time climbing over the trenches, i believe it was his first time...and this is where he gave his soul to God and hoped for forgiveness, but intead of dying he lived so after that he tried he best to be the man he was suppose to be but couldnt forgive himself in committing a grave sin

  • what the name this film is?

  • Does anyone know the song playing?

  • There needs to be an updated version of the American Civil War. Now that I'd watch. And also obiviously the Vietnam War, not just showing fighting itself but actually showcasing how warped that period was. Also depicting the evilness of behind-the-scenes string pulling by corrupt Military Commanders, Generals, White House Military Advisors, everything. And showcasing the horror and abbhorentness of the Mei Lei Massacre, would make a compelling case and harrowing tv.

  • I've seen this scene 10 times now. Amazing.

  • this is where jimmy truly died...R.I.P.

  • James "Jimmy" Darmody

    1897-1921

  • HBO should do a mini series about WW1

  • @biskit460 Heck yeah they should!

  • Comment removed

  • @biskit460 I love you :) they should make it just about 1 man and hos journey, he has a wife and baby at home and it has to be a truly sad story and a sad story. That would be amazing

  • @biskit460 I agree. You see plenty of World War II documentaries but there really isn't much out there on World War I

  • @Submariner21 HBO and BBC are doing a 5 part mini series set in world war 1 and it's coming out next year :) I don't know if it's going to be a "soldiers story" or a "politicians story" but all I know is that dude of the sherlock tv series is in it

  • @MrBrisbaneman1994 It's called Parade's End.

  • @LightStijn yeah I know

  • @LightStijn its called boardwalk empire and the last ep is called to the lost fuck pppl get your shit straight dont tell ppl shit if your gonna get it wrong

  • @Legate1987 You are so dumb, it's almost unbelievable.

  • @LightStijn lol prove your point then just dont make a statement any dumbass can say what you said...intelligent ppl back up there conclusions

  • @Legate1987 Reread everything that was said. That way you can find out for yourself how stupid you really are.

  • @Legate1987 oh, sweet irony.

  • @smichelle65 lol not so sweet if your trying to lip me ive watched and read this from the beginning

  • "To the lost"

  • Amazing, tragically beautiful scene. I will of course miss Jimmy Darmody, but I applaud the bravery of the writers to try and be true to character even though it would (and has) upset so many people. The only thing that bothered me about the scene is that I have wanted to see Jimmy WWI stuff since the beginning - and ESPECIALLY since the introduction of Richard Harrow and Jimmy's speech to Liam in season 1 - and the only time we saw it was Jimmy's climactic moment. It was a beautiful tease!

  • Gulp.

  • This scene lasted less than a minute but it brought home the horrible reality of WW1 for me in a bigger way than entire films have done. Dont know what it was, maybe the music but suddenly i was like "whoa jesus". I felt so sorry for Jimmy. He was the best character by a million miles. This show is amazing however, easily the best TV drama ever created and im definetly watching season 3. You dont have to like the fact that the writers killed Jimmy-beleive me i hate it- but you have to respect it

  • Brilliant and respectful ending scene for one of the best characters all genres!

  • Im gonna miss jimmy, remember when he killed those dude's by the fountain, that was awesome.

  • This episode made me despise Nucky Thompson...I hope he remembers how he cringed in fear like a coward during his attempted assassination, Throwing up his hand in attempt to spare his life, while Jimmy took it in the most Honorable way possible...Hands to the side, firm posture, accepting his fate.

Jimmy Darmody was Boardwalk Empire...I hope Richard Harrow takes back what has been taken from him...his best friend (Jimmy) and his secret crush (Angela)

  • @Jamesmartens55 Nahh nuckys the shit, people don't like him because he's ugly. jimmy robbed him and tried to kill him, he had to go ...and he fucked his mom

  • @poopmcscoopface I dont think it is his looks. If it was a case of looks then people wouldn't like Richard!

I think Jimmy and Richard were the reason most people fell in love with the show Nucky in my opinion is a second rate character there is no real depth there. I think it was a mistake making him the main character everything about him and his wife for that matter "The children The children" annoys the shit out of me, Just shut up bitch nobody cares about your kids.

  • @GIVEmeSOMEsugarBA8Y of course theres depth in nucky. who would of thought he would kill jimmy everyone thought he was soft and how before he kills him he is saying to margaret how he is changing his life and shit about god. But i agree she's fuckin annoying and a bitch she's a typical women of today

  • @GIVEmeSOMEsugarBA8Y I have to agree,i think the writers somehow forgot at some point that the story was supposed to revolve around Enoch Thompson not his driver.

I never got to feel any sort of "character" in Nucky in the entire 2 seasons ,he just felt like a regular bad guy doing some good things, there was never any depth to him like say there was to Tony Soprano.

I think the shows main problem was that it tried to build a story upon a cast of way too many characters.

  • @Jamesmartens55 Yeah I used to have a bit of respect for Nucky and I liked him a great deal as a character, constantly hoping he'd pull off his trial without too big of a hiccup... But as I was watching this scene and immediately after, I cringed with rage and I despise him now as you do. My hope was that Harrow would go on a killing spree, seeing as how he's lost another friend, perhaps his last.

  • Anyone know what song this is? I feel like it's Mozart but I'm not sure.

  • @Latinoberto The credits are: Hungarian State Opera Chorus: Conducter - Pier Giorgio Morandi: Music - Quattro Pezzi Sacri (Four Sacred Pieces) and the sequence is the first of the four, Ave Maria. Example of the song: /watch?v=XTNkf_YE4g0

  • @DireAxis Thanks so much!! I found it and I love it!

  • "Some people believe that - especially in that soldier's position - that being alive is much, much worse."

    - Jimmy Darmody

  • Such a moving and powerful scene. He couldn't have gone any other way. Does anyone know the music that's playing?

  • I hate Nucky even more.. No respect for a war hero like Jimmy

  • @elfy707 Sorry bud, but if that's reaction I don't think you heard what Jimmy's story was trying to tell you about war.

  • @venrablebead It sort of is my reaction, but i don't like him because he doesn't respect anyone coming from war, and now that he smoked Jimmy lol

  • I wish this had been the last scene.

  • So upset that James was killed in the season. This is still a great scene though

  • this scene is so great.

  • Even as a 28 year old man, I'm not ashamed to say this scene almost brought me to tears. If he was ever going to die, i couldn't have imagined his thoughts being anything else.

  • @emac3232 Why would you be ashamed of your tears? Good art is suposed to make you feel something. That's why it's such a great show. I'll miss Jimmy. Such a great character!

  • @emac3232 Oh goodness I agree, although I'm a 22 yr old female I was so pissed at Nucky killing him I was already tearing up and getting angry at that scene and then this scene came on and it just broke my heart and I started bawling. I will miss Jimmy.

  • @emac3232 Hey it takes a man to say what you did. I'm a combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan and this scene got to me.

  • IMO best scene of the series. I love how his last thought was of him climbing out of the trenches. Just like he told Nucky, he died there a long time ago.

  • @dragsmagshags Me too. He was still alive for a minute before he get shot the second time. Id like to think he didnt hear Nucky's last words to him (fucking bitch ass), and he was experiencing this moment in his head.

It's like, his whole life passed before his eyes, and this was the last thing he remembers, cuz its where he truly died. The past two years of the show, he wasnt really alive, and this was his true last memory.

  • @Tobeyonehello "his whole life passed before his eyes, and this was the last thing he remembers, cuz its where he truly died. The past two years of the show, he wasnt really alive, and this was his true last memory."

That is such an amazing insight into this scene. I just thought that him climbing out of the trench meant that he's finally free, but your interpretation makes so much more sense.

  • @Talentz92 Thanks man, I appreciate it. Me and my roommate had a long drunken conversation about it, and that was my final thought on the scene. lol. I think were both right though. Jimmy didnt want to go on. He was ready for it to end, especially after all the damage he had done (Angela). So now he was free. His running into battle without looking back suggests his willingness to die, even hope of death. His life was very tormented. I loved the Jimmy character, very sad hes gone.

  • @Tobeyonehello I just noticed that it kind of makes a reference to a quote he said to Liam; when he was decribing how a German soldier died in barbed wire.

"We hold on so desperately to life; some people feel, certainly in that soldiers situation, that being alive is much, much worse"

  • @dragsmagshags - You know, I've heard this before.. and personally, I think he died before this, in his dorm room when he had sex with his own mother. I mean, imagine that. As a reasonable, rational, person - consider how much that could screw a person up. I think he joined the war in order to die so that he could somehow wipe his shame away.

  • i wish they had more flashbacks in this show.Him and harrow wher always saying they did terrible things but they don't show it

  • @poopmcscoopface Sometimes it is better to leave it at words, it adds weight to what they are trying to convey. This scene would of been totally different if anything had been shown before.

  • yes, such a tastefully shot scene..

  • so powerful
