I played this game 11 years ago and only now am I seeing this. It seems every year I learn something new about this game. I would've loved to play this stage.
Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which has electronic music inspired by great games such as the Castlevania series. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
I Believe that the reason for the cuts in the american version of SOTN, is the fact that there was no cut at all, the japanese version only come after the original for PSX.
SOTN was released in 1997m and Saturn version was released in 1998. Those stages and extras had been created only in 1998.
Well, I love SOTN, but honestly, except for a few new enemies and some music, it doesn't look like we missed much here. Now, a new boss at the end of the level would have been something, but really, there's nothing particularly special-looking about this level. I wish they'd keep some of these things in the games, though... I wonder if Konami feels that Americans can't handle the extras or something?
when you're in the inverted castle and about to face the final, final boss in the clock tower... the knights in either hallway have the most exp. in the game. just keep killing them and patientlywait for your level to increase. or you could gameshark it. but what the joy in that. get joy in earning.
Is it just me or are we Americans getting cheated out of extra levels, enemies, bosses, items and playable characters; I am just asking. And I swear I one of those monsters made a noise one of the "Bushido Blade: characters(Tatsuma) makes when he swings his Katana around, of course I doubt anyone but me even knows what Bushido Blade is but zseriously someone tell Konami to STOP CUTTING GAME CONTENT WHEN MAKING THE AMERICAN VERSIONS OF IT'S GAMES it is gettting really annoying...
Maybe they want to make us all move to Japan, I wouldn't mind but they could just say so instead of cutting content from games when they send them to America; I bet if you looked up every game that Japan has made and look at the Differences between the American and Japanese version there will be some really cool content that was cut out in the American version. I heard that in the Japanese version of "Bushido Blade" you actually had a exploration mode, that would have been cool...
but let me tell you something even whit this lost level and this few new enemies i keep whit the american version,, lol,,, i love castlevania sotn just the way i knew for the first time but in other games that cut shit sucks
True, the Castlevania games are the exeption when it comes to cut content being a huge deal but in other games it can be obnoxious; I mean think of all the cool stuff that is in the Japanese version of games like "Bushido Blade" and others I can't think of at this moment that we will never see unless we buy the Japanese version and have a compatile system. But it still would have been cool if the extra levels had been left in the American version...
i agree with you...totally agree with you its getting pretty annoyinh why cant they just make the games equal its not like the sega and ps cds were diferent...thats so garbage like the final fantasy x..i had to mod my ps2 so i could play FFX international so i could beat the dark aeons something that the american version dosent have...
@DARKpoxam Maybe that's it...they don't want it EQUAL. They keep making/developing stuff that's EXCLUSIVE to a certain version only...I think this is how they----oh never mind...
the version of this game is for the Sega Saturn and came out after the PS1 original. There was nothing cut when we received the game. konami did no wrong.
@SamiWheeler Nothing was cut. This is the Saturn game, which came out months AFTER the Playstation game. To give players a reason to buy another version of a popular game they probably already had, Konami ADDED extra content to the Saturn game (which is a great game, despite all the "I hate the Saturn game" reviews out there). Also, all the monster's grunts and screams were poorly re-dubbed in the American game.
@SamiWheeler the extra levels are only for saturn...THE SATURN'S SOTN was released one year later...and it had downgraded graphics...it was a bit slower too...also it didnt have the amazing voice actors....so...PLEASE....GET OVER IT MORTALS!
@SamiWheeler All Games from the very beginning: Atari to present-day conversions have always be inferior to JAP releases; in speed, difficulty, violence, and content.
@Marazish Incoherent miscellaneous one in a million, comparison.
"New content"? Replaced* content.
& "harder difficulty"? Utter_dribble.
What I love about the Japs, is the deliberate lack of pedantic sincerity; such as this level with the hung women - something the US censor because it undermines women, would cause another beating, or lead to WW3~
@Marazish Yes actually. Archaeologised every Castle Dracula, Sotn %s and SRs yet seen beaten, contributed to Cwiki amongst many sites. The list goes on.
@SamiWheeler The saturn version was made after the playstation version by a different team, and the extra content isn't all that great. Igarashi himself disapproved of the extra content. They didn't even bother changing the graphics engine designed for the playstation to one more suited to the powerful 2d hardware of the saturn, and as a result the game has a lot of crippling slowdown. You're not missing all that much.
@SamiWheeler You think you are cheated out? Try living in Europe. Hundrets of games that you Americans get are never even released here. A couple of areas that are rushed through in like 8 minutes isn't all that big of a loss.
@cakestalker Maybe, but overall it's America that gets the better treatment (especially if you're a jRPG-fan), even though the games would have a huge market over here too.
Still, I think it's useless to complain if a game is a couple of (small and useless) areas shorter and cry how we're being left out just because of that. Symphony of the Night didn't suffer for it as a whole. It was and still is an amazing game, and long enough as it is.
@SamiWheeler It's not because of America, PSX Japanese version didn't have those either, however, the Saturn version was released later in Japan, and so they added new areas and stuff like that.
yea none of the stuff they added in the Sega Saturn version besides the ability to play as Maria even interests me... the added areas/bosses are just lame and short
The enemies in this level give ridiculous amounts of experience at low levels, considering you can cheese them to death with the knife subweapon, and it takes at most two of them to gain a level. That and the dagger you find in here is incredibly broken early in the game.
I wonder if this is being played on a sega saturn or an emulator. I've heard that this game has had some bad slowdown but I haven't found any slowdown in this game so far.
really? you make it work on ssf emulator?? how come it works, when i downloaded this rom and played wiht the ssf emulator, it doesn,t work at all!! please share me a video how you make this game works to your computer, i really wanted to play this game!!! thank you!!!
really? you make it work to your ssf emulator? how come it works to your computer and mine was not? please share me some video that how make this game work to your ssf emulator. Thank You...
this wasn't deleted, they never finish it in the first place. in the year 1998, they ported the psx game to the saturn just to a add a few bonus features. they never made the saturn version in the U.S, cos it's a weak console plus sega said they wants everybody to focus on the new dreamcast instead.
what is this?! there were extra rooms, battles, and familiars in other versions? AND the ability to play as Maria?! tch..im mad now. i have the ps1 version, why did they cut stuff out? ughh
well you would've needed to get a saturn and the import of the game; only in japan. you might be able to get it on ebay. check out the differences on wiki, it might just persuade you
Two more, a Tengu that you can see in the video and a Pixie that looks similar (and acts like) the fairy but can sing. They were removed in the PSX version, and as a result the Sword familiar was moved around to a new location.
omg thank you! i have the psp version and i just found that other weird Demon familiar and the new fairy!!!! so is the psp version the japanese version or somthing????
This level are great and the music sounds so good, Castlevania The Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP have a Prision level and It s rare no see a Prision In the Symphony of the Night I think that could be a way or trick to open the levels in The PSP
That also include the Underground Gardens right? But what about the SotN remake for Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP? You can also get that demon familiar as well as the Fairy...
nope, i think it also not included with the underground garden, so far i know they disable it in psx version because it somehow related to religios and thats why they disable it..sotn remake for dracula x cronicles for psp..?hmmm i dont know lol..huhuhuhu, since i only play a little castlevania dracula X or psp.the hero in that game cannot use item and etc, its kind of boring~~..it is true there are sotn for psp.?hmmm...Time to GOOGLE~~~
I do not care if the cursed prison and underground gardens had no point of just being there. It's such a shame they did not include all the extra stuff on the psp version. The gardens looked so cool. I was expecting the psp version of SOTN to be complete in every sense. Oh well, I could just comfort myself watching these youtube videos where someone else is playing these stages.(sniff)
Oh well, I guess Igarashi had SOME good reason not including these areas in the PSP version. The PSP version is still pretty cool, dontcha think? I like the new Maria.
Wow. That sucked... No wonder IGA wants us to forget it. Quality >>> Quantity.
And PlayStation version came first. It was the Saturn version that was the port. PlayStation version was originally released 1997. Saturn version was released 1998.
Well because of the new control scheme it's easier to evade and kill massive amounts of enemies. In the original castlevania it turned hard battles like fighting against several white dragons into tapping the b button.
I just downloaded .cue and .bin files for this game, plus an emulator. Has anybody ever had success playing this on their computer? I've been crapped out of luck lately, I don't know what I haven't done. I've even managed to get Dracula X Chi no Rondo to work, but not this.
well, I downloaded several emulators with all the plugins. I already have a virtual drive installed, and I have the bios. With everything configured, and the saturn start up screen comes up, I try to start the game and it says something about the disc not being a readable disc, whether the emulator is reading the .bin file or if it's mounted onto a virtual drive.
I've experimented with other emulators, and I get various errors, this setup is the farthest i've got.
my question is this, besides looking different, what is the difference between both demon familiars? and also what is difference between both fairies?
The Sprite was simply a palette-swap of the Fairy, however, she can sing a song for you. ... The Nose Devil is exactly the same as the Demon, but with a different look. The Sprite was removed due to being essentially identical to the Fairy, and the Nose Devil was removed because it was a Japanese cultural/pop culture reference that the rest of the world would not understand, in addition to being essentially identical to the Demon.
wtf.. the sega saturn came first; they editted it out from the U.S. version because of censorship and crap; that's why most games that were translated from Japan are missing a shit load of the good stuff; simply because the man did not like it.
Just so ya know, the Jap version of Symphony of the Night has the 2 extra familiars of the Devil with the pitchfork and the extra Fairy aswell. The saturn only had extra enemies and extra levels, along with being able to use Maria.
nice i like the magic meter. nose deomn is pretty cool if not in for no reason... i want to see the extra weapons also. alucard spear or whatever it's called. the rainbow cloak in action, and other stuff not coming to mind.
The Crissagrim kinda sucks. Try performing a "HADOKEN" move while equipping either the MASAMUNE or the MURAMASA and see what happens... the JEWEL KNUCKLE is also good at close range and to collect loot.
I played this game 11 years ago and only now am I seeing this. It seems every year I learn something new about this game. I would've loved to play this stage.

Atari is (or at least was) an American company :X
theirs been a few times where we actually got more content, harder difficulty etc.
I cant think of them off of the top of my head aside for armored core for the PSP
Ours had a bit of new content, some refined stuff and even manual controls (the original one was A.I only)
they re-released it in japan as the "international edition" because the Japanese gamers wanted it as-well haha. It's rare, but it happens :D

last time i checked going from just sitting and starring at the screen to ACTUALLY BEING ABLE TO CONTROL WHAT YOU ARE DOING .
Is a rather large change.
their were some new maps and other things, then it was switched to international edition where they added more and pawned it off to the Japanese.
Did you even play the Japanese/American versions of the game?

I meant armored core.
As for Castlevania thou, I think the "extras" were only in the Saturn version.
It's like when the 360 gets some DLC that the PS3 doesn't. however in this case it was mostly just
garbage they didn't have time to finish. or quickly slapped together. apparently, the quality of visuals and
sound were better on the PSX vs the Saturn, and their were less lag issues.

it's Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles. One of the games you can unlock is SotN as well as the original: Rondo of Blood

I like the new Maria.

wow what was the point of that level
Hyde1415 4 years ago
very short level for a 4 minute long song haha

Wow. That sucked... No wonder IGA wants us to forget it. Quality >>> Quantity.
And PlayStation version came first. It was the Saturn version that was the port. PlayStation version was originally released 1997. Saturn version was released 1998.

I love how he avoids the time stopper power and thus effectively reassures me that NOBODY wants that useless power XD:
BlackwingDragon 4 years ago
Well because of the new control scheme it's easier to evade and kill massive amounts of enemies. In the original castlevania it turned hard battles like fighting against several white dragons into tapping the b button.

cant you use the time stopping item to move the right statue in the clock room to get alucards items ?
diediemydarling24 4 years ago
those are Alucart. They're like Alucard's original items, only weaker. The real ones are found later in the game.

I just downloaded .cue and .bin files for this game, plus an emulator. Has anybody ever had success playing this on their computer? I've been crapped out of luck lately, I don't know what I haven't done. I've even managed to get Dracula X Chi no Rondo to work, but not this.
mrtwister1026 4 years ago
what you need to google is ps emulator preconfigured or epsxe preconfigured andit works
donlicht1976 4 years ago
I have have! Whats not working?
N9olan 4 years ago
well, I downloaded several emulators with all the plugins.

Tricksterknight 4 years ago
Per Wikipedia:
The Sprite was simply a palette-swap of the Fairy, however, she can sing a song for you. ... The Nose Devil is exactly the same as the Demon, but with a different look. The Sprite was removed due to being essentially identical to the Fairy, and the Nose Devil was removed because it was a Japanese cultural/pop culture reference that the rest of the world would not understand, in addition to being essentially identical to the Demon.

Very good music. I wish this had been included in the U.S. version just for that.

It's pretty obvious why these stages were cut from the PS version.
ParryAll 4 years ago
these stages were not cut from the PS. They had a deadline, could not fit then in and decided to put them in the Saturn version which came later.
N9olan 4 years ago
wtf.. the sega saturn came first; they editted it out from the U.S. version because of censorship and crap; that's why most games that were translated from Japan are missing a shit load of the good stuff; simply because the man did not like it.
asmadeous 4 years ago
censorship?
fusoya2 4 years ago
Dude! The American Playstation version came first. Of coarse, if you took the time to read N9olan's post, you would know that.

gabriel0909 5 years ago
Just so ya know, the Jap version of Symphony of the Night has the 2 extra familiars of the Devil with the pitchfork and the extra Fairy aswell. The saturn only had extra enemies and extra levels, along with being able to use Maria.

You know if the Japaneses version of Psx is equal ??
yuyukazuma 5 years ago
It wasn't taken out of the PS version. The Saturn version came out over a year later, hence the extra content.
zedkay 5 years ago
Though it was nice to see, I can understand why they took this level out for the PSX version. It serves no purpose.
Grungeanddeath 5 years ago
nice i like the magic meter. nose deomn is pretty cool if not in for no reason... i want to see the extra weapons also. alucard spear or whatever it's called. the rainbow cloak in action, and other stuff not coming to mind.
worldbeyondwalls 5 years ago
The Crissagrim kinda sucks. Try performing a "HADOKEN" move while equipping either the MASAMUNE or the MURAMASA and see what happens... the JEWEL KNUCKLE is also good at close range and to collect loot.
