I recommend anyone interested in CF to go to their website and read "What is fitness?", its an awesome article about CF and training in general, also interesting to read, even if you dont want to do CF. You can also just google "What is fitness".
@Sully1111 Doing CF workouts will make you better at CF but not much more? Now that CF is running, rowing, olympic weightlifting, gymnastics, powerlifting, kettlebell training and more then I'd say that you get better at pretty much everything if you get better at CF workouts. See my point? IMO CF might be the least "specialized" or niche sport there is, especially compared to PL or BB. CF increases power, strength, speed, flexibility, endurance, you name it. I'd say pretty useful for everyone.
@JakobNielsson Wrong. Just because you train everything, does not mean you get better at everything. That is exactly the definitions of "specialization" and "prioritization" and "periodization". CrossFit fails to mean any of these standards that are essentially laws in the fitness realm that allow one to get better at a particular activity.
If you only train to lift heavy weights maybe once a month, when will you ever get better at it? You get better at something by DOING IT SPECiFICALLY.
...... sprint a mile?!?!? World record time is 4:12.75. CFers can function completely anaerobic for a nonstop 4-6minutes?? I gotta see this post a vid!!!
@strengthcamp there is a technical definition for sprinting mate, don't worry I use to say the same thing. It has something to do with hip opening up or rotation or something
Yo Elliot. i just started doing Crossfit. Love it. After going to the gym for so many years and, really, just being bored out of my mind by it. Crossfit has completely changed my life. I'm struggling...but having the best time ever. And you're right, a lot of jerks in Crossfit...I feel lucky to have found a good group. BTW..been working my IT bands with rollers...OY! Love you videos!
Is it just me of do quite a few of the people on Crossfit have poor form and cheat with many exercises, in ordrer to demonstrate how not to do things; without stating that.
@Dayberry Fat has no effect on muscle, apart from weighing it down. So less fat = lighter load on muscles. In terms of lifting, it should have no effect; but since you said weight, he would've lost a bit of muscle and therefore strength along with it.
Crossfit isn't a style it is a brand. A lot of the metabolic conditioning philosophy they borrowed (stole) from Alywn Crossgove and put their name on it. Also doing olympic lifts to failure is a recipe for injury and I have yet to see a correct clean in a crossfit video.
yo Elliot- You have a great site and I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and information. Keep up the great work. I recently injured my MCL (almost a grade 3 tear) playing Judo- Do you know if there are exercises that will speed up the recovery process? Thanks for your time.
I'd love to do crossfit training here in the Netherlands! I love bodybuilding, but I miss the "useful-muscle/strength" for allround usefulness of the body.
Early on you gained my respect when you where doing your (I believe 1st) live Q&A about LHM. Someone asked you about P90X. I said to myself, ‘here we go this huge muscular dude (you lol) is going to totally rip apart P90X, yet, to my surprise, you where like ‘Yeah, I heard it works, so if that is your thing then fine’ (not a direct quote). I like how you never bash other people’s style of working out. Although I am a long way away from P90X, it is how I got started. Anyhow I am a LHMer now lol.
Well P90X does make some sense. The principles about a balanced diet (fat-protein-carbs), shocking the muscle etc. are proven principles. P90X just puts many proven ways of training together.
@yyportne thanks man! i respect anyone's program that is based on sound principles. too many haters out there bashing programs just cuz they don't use it themselves or they didn't create it.
My friend did CrossFit to prepare for Boot Camp and RASP. He killed everyone (physically) and had the best PT score (I think it was 338). BUT, he is not near as strong as me. When I talk to him and tell me my new PRs in the DL, squat, bench, press, he is like holy crap really? He kills me on anything to do with conditioning though. Different goals, different programming. Great answer Elliott!
@lyzedpara and the small girls trying to clean and press there bodyweight to me looks like a good way to injure urself especially sense there bone thin with abs better then most guys lol
To all the guys that don't like you, yes they suck! But hey I know you don't even care about them anyway. I just want to let you know, what you already know, is that you rock! Keep up on the video's. Your videos are the best on youtube.
Hey, i do Corssfit-Mainsite WODs in support for my MMA training. I am not in a crossfit gym, but i love that they post their WODs open for everybody to see. Love your vids Elliot!
They have really good equipment, but I don't agree with how they use it...Doing compound movements for reps with a time goal is not good for people who aren't trained for years in the movement. Timed warm ups to failure...No thanks
Yo Elliot! is it posible to do a crossfit program with only dumbbells and barbells? its because i now someone doing crossfit with kettlebells, sandbags, medicineballs, ropes, some boxes and other strange stuf. but im just happy to be at the gym im at now. but that is a classic gym with dumbells barbells and isolations machines, no "alternatice training things like kettlebells and so on". I tryid to copy some of the exercises, like overheadpress just with a dumbbel instead of a kettebell. thanks!
@strengthcamp yo Elliot what do you think of the smolov squat program and similar programs. I was thinking of starting something like them but want to know your opinion on the topic !! Thank you
Well I'm looking to add a bit of mass during the summer. I'm eating seven meals, instead of my normal six, simply because my semester is over and I have the time to do so. Been in the gym for a year now, I'm 5'9, and I have gone from 140 with hardly any muscle mass, to a solid 160 at 7% body fat. With the added calorie and carb intake I am going to do this summer, I really want to keep my body fat near the same.. So I am looking for late night meal ideas that wont pack on fat
@strengthcamp great diet elliot. I've been on the cream and oreo diet since you posted this and I've gained 4 pounds. Shit, I didn't see the part where you were kidding :(
