Davy Jones is just a heartbroken man who takes out his sorrow and anger on others. He became heartless since Calypso broke his, as so he thinks. His anger and stiffness is just something for him to hide from his true feelings.

@hrkelsey Well, to be fair, he -had- just given up ten years of his life and lost the ability to ever step on land again. I think he has a right to be rather upset when the woman he loves deserts him. Very few people would continue to do the duty she charged them with after she'd deserted them, so I don't think he's was monster at all. Alright, binding her to human form may be a bit harsh, but his quote in PotC2 "Life is cruel, why should the afterlife be any different" explains his entire life.

Davy Jones is a scary, murderous villain. This song is beautiful, sad, and gives the feeling of someone small and innocent (well the beginning at least). Somehow I can't relate the beginning of it to him as his theme, even though I know his story.
