  • If you listen closely, the five notes at the start are the sound of my lungs, heart, and testicles exploding one after the other. THIS is the side of classical music that some people seem to forget when they dismiss it.

  • Driving throught while playing this on full blast is the best! It is funny how many stares you get :)

  • The conductor moves with the music as if it comes from within his body! and the drums. just splendid.

  • I LOVE! :D This is THE music! :D

  • really astonishing, not Van karajan ad even not Toscanini.. grandissimo maestro Vandelli.

  • xuso excelentsima interpretacion dios mio gran director

  • I want this guy to conduct the orchestra at my music camp.

  • This is wonderful! Maestro Vandelli, a fantastic job on the conducting!!!

  • What. A. Performance!!!

  • so good!

  • MAMMA MIA!

  • Grande Verdi! Bravo Maestro!

  • And people say classical, baroque and opera is boring. Fools.

  • @warestari2000

Except this piece is neither classical, nor baroque, nor opera, its Romantic.

Still this is one of the best performances of this I've seen.

  • I use it as alarm sound to wake up in the morning. The secret is to use maximum sound power so you wake up the neighbours too

  • I want to be the guy that hits the drum.

  • Grandioso!!!

  • so inspiring!

  • This is the best conducting that I've seen for this song. Amazing.

  • damn they are goood

  • best version of verdi' dies irae on youtube

  • definition of awesome

  • I would kill to be that conductor.... seriously

  • @Tvrkan No, you won't. think about it. if you would like to be as half as good as this director you would train as double as hard, don´t you agree!

  • Yes the power the suspense the drama ladies and gentlemen who said classical music is boring can join the que marked idiots.

  • This is the music that plays in Heaven !

  • I wasn't sure if I mentioned how awesome this is. But if I didn't is, this sends chills all over my body.

  • Sans voix, sans mot.... prodigieux!

  • omg i was completely BLOWN AWAY.

  • Wow....just amazing! I have the chills and i listened to it two hours ago! We're working on this piece for our Italy tour in January and this performance really set the bar

  • grandissimo Vandelli, secco e senza sbavature, il miglior Dies Irae mai ascoltato, ovviamente complimenti anche al coro russo e all'orchestra

  • wow, the conductor gave like every single cue in the whole piece. I bet he was exhausted after this.

  • this is not 'simply' music but is a chef-d'oeuvre...

  • It's... breathtaking. Heard the piece before, but this is most definite the strongest, mightiest and most epicly done.

Sir, you have my deepest respect and eternal thanks.

This could well be the one piece of classical music that the Trans Siberian Orchestra DIDN'T have the most memorable and strongest performance on, and since the TSO is like, my favourite band (well, Orchestra) ever that says a lot coming from me.

  • I would give my right arm to conduct this. I'd probably end up dislocating both arms conducing it, too!

    Surprised you didn't, claudio ;)

  • Powerful and great!!! Wow!!! Timeless piece.

  • you can almost hear the wrath of god coming down on your shoulders listening to this

  • I love watching the conductor

  • Increiblemente magnifico, perfecta furia clasica

  • I am stunned by the emotion pronounced through this video, and wish I could purchase the recording in iTunes, or get it onto my iPod. Also, your hand movements within the beginning made me wonder whether you were possessed, I could never keep time that fast! Stupendous

  • Wow seeing you in this video gives me a new respect for conductors, and great piece by the way.

  • The conductor is so intense it's like he's in an epic sword fight !!

  • im like the only person in my school (middle) that knows this piece.

only me and my band teacher.

    so sad.

  • @johnsongM16 that is really sad. these days a lot of people don't know much about classical music :(

  • @johnsongM16 Don't be afraid to let your classmates hear this. You never know who will like it! I've seen hardcore metalheads and rap fans loving this kind of music! :) As a DJ, I know!

  • Complimenti Claudio, o forse è meglio Maestro Vandelli!

  • the conductor LOL!

  • That's the best thing I've seen and heard in years!

  • Thanks to the 1'000'000 and more people, who watched this !

  • @claudiovandelli You should post here on youtube all the parts of this phenomenal performance of Verdi's Requiem, we want MORE!

  • @claudiovandelli

you're welcome. Actually thank you! I've considered myself a metal head for most of my life but classical seems to have the same type of emotion that I look for in music.

  • @claudiovandelli

    Thank YOU

  • @claudiovandelli thanks for posting this wonderful peice

  • @claudiovandelli Give it enough time and another million will watch it too. Amazing piece.

  • All I can say is THANK YOU Battle Royale for introducing me to this simply wonderful music!! This rendition is so powerful... you can r4eally feel the emotion coming from them, especially the conductor!! :)

  • i just love the terror the music conveys

  • Shocking.....I'll play it once I dominate the world lol

  • 999927 views, so close to 1 million :) soon it will be :P

  • I'm 13, and I absolutely loved listening to this peice. I grew up in a classic rock family, and I guess I developed a taste for old music. Just the first minute will prove anyone wrong that classical music is boring.

  • Beautiful. Hearing them play with such passion takes my breath away. It's a shame there seems to be so many pretentious, psuedo-intellectual commentaries on this type of thing.

  • this piece was made for russians to play

  • Simply stunning performance !!

  • scary... I was wearing headphones while listening to this and although I am familiar with the melody the sudden occurance made my hair stand on end

  • I love this guy conducting - though the bass drum is so loud !! It's pretty awesome though and I wish I would have been the guy playing it. I definitely feel the whole day of wrath thing...

  • Awesome!

  • you can download it claudiovandelli(dot)com --> soundfiles

  • Spine tingling, amazing, Im lost for words...

  • from 0.08 to 0.13 the strings look like waves they are in so unison!

  • conductor is cool lol

  • Claudio Vandelli, I bow to you, Sir. I can just imagine sitting in the front row, and when the first powerful "DIIIES IRAE!" comes along, my hair just flies backwards.

  • I just wish I could take a million kids whose music today is vulgar chanting and put them in the front row for this and several other pieces of classical music. It would either change their lives of cause them to dislike older people even more. :O)

  • I have no words

  • i have HUGE goosebumps now ...

  • this was one of the best musical experiences i have had in like forever. that is one lucky conductor to be able to conduct this masterpiece

  • fantastica esecuzione

  • Best version I heard :)

  • Just look at cellist #5... Everything here is amazing, but imo the most amazing one is cellist #5.

  • Ahhhhhh, perfect....just perfect, the beauty of choir!!

  • The thing the conductor is holding is a wand, only that explains such magic.

  • I haven't cried in 4 long years, and upon hearing this, I couldn't help but to find teardrops searing down upon my English homework.

  • Just look at the conductor... Everything here is amazing, but imo the most amazing one is the conductor.

  • Journal - Day 27: "I went back to it 5 times today. The feeling to click and listen to it one more time is uncontrollable. This isn't normal is it? Self? I mean I grew up listening solely to hip hop and maybe some oldies... my younger self swore to never listen to anything country or classical. Yet, alas! First it was Garth Brooks "Friends in low places" now this..... this,this... Verdi.....semicolon......Requim......comma.......dies...irae.. The cake was a lie, the..cake..was..a..lie"

  • Superb recording...and superb performance....wow..

  • I shouldn't have turned my speakers to maximum before clicking this video. I must admit though; the experience of it was utterly sublime!

  • The first half is amazing, but I have to say the best part is that very end , I have never heard an chorus sound like that. So haunting and quick , almost like a snake.

  • MELODIOUS VOCAL SKILLS AND BRILLIANT VIOLIN AND CELLO PLAYING!! Truly marvellous, I say

  • I long to direct like this director. It looks like he is having a grand time.

  • goosebumps and tears

  • Awesomeeeee, fantastic, PERFECT!!

    bravo from Spain!!

  • Wow this is good. Thank you very much for posting it.

  • Standing ovation...

  • 2nd for amazing piece, esp. the drums. I literally get the image of thunderbolts, which is probably what the composer intended.

  • Very good performence and good dynamic.

To bad the recording clip on vandelli site is less dynamic :(

It sounds just like any other recording there .

  • Greatissimo!!!!!!!

  • god i wish i was that conducor

  • I think this is my favourite performance out of all the Verdi's Dies Irae on You Tube.

    Toscanini is 2nd.

Bernstein is just nicely bonkers. And Mr Vandelli is far superior to Karajan.

I salute you Mr Vandelli - would've loved to hear the Tuba Mirum follow on from this though - I imagine you did a fantastic job!

  • Que regência!!! Bravíssimo!!!

  • Simply stunning!

  • I'm a metalhead, i love groups like Cannibal Corpse or Napalm Death, but THIS song is... Is something that i can't explain.

  • Love it when directors put emotion into their directing.

  • Watching this video has made me realise fully for the first time just how closely an orchestra follow their conductor.

  • I want to grab someone off the street and say "HAVE YOU HEARD THIS??!!!!" with tears running off my face... If someone died before hearing this... it will just break my heart. How can I feel so insignificant and large at the same time like every little thing in the universe.

  • quick question...who are the 36 people that dislike this???

  • GRANDISSIMO !

  • BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO

  • wow, just awesome, Verdi and Vandelli. It just couldn't get any better

  • xD el director es genial

  • Great Conductor!

  • This is a really good recording

  • Best. Conductor. Ever. And I could listen to the first minute and 20 seconds over and over for the rest of my life. EPIC.

  • best version on youtube

  • If you like a really fast tempo, check out the old 1961 r4ecording (Originally on Parliament) by Igor Markevitch & USSR State So (Audio CD - 2006) I think it's even faster. On the other extreme is Barbirolli. I love them both

  • BRAVO!! BRAVO!!!!!!!!

  • I want to go into a large room with a very good sound system, and just sit and listen to this all day long. PHENOMENAL!!!!!!

  • I've said it before and i'll say it again i WANT to be that conductor, commanding this army of heart shattering music into peoples ears

  • @lunnyyy best comment I've read in a long long time:) Couldn't have said it better.

  • @lunnyyy Looks like 454 more people want to do the same thing...including me!

  • Wow. Earth-shattering vocals. This is amazing.

  • amazing video, best ive heard, would have loved to hear the whole requiem. 10 stars! :-P plus that conductor....holy shizz

  • secco e senza sbavature il vero Verdi.. grandissimo Vandelli..incredibilmente pare che sia la musica guidarlo e non lui a guidare la musuica.. GRANDISSIMO!

  • GO BASS DRUM AND CONDUCTOR! awesome job!

  • grandissimno Vandelli, la migliore interpretazione abbia mai ascoltato

  • absolutely fantastic!

  • BEST OF BEST OF BEST OF BEST !!!!!!
