  • That Mary Whitehouse, bet she's a goer!

Know what I mean, Know what I mean, nudge-nudge!

  • @TomMSTie1138 Well, she, uh, sometimes has to go, yes.

  • @FCWPM I'll bet she does. :)

  • @TomMSTie1138 Was a goer. For sometime in 2001 fell down the curtain and joined the choir invisible. If the religious right hadn't nailed her to the pedestal she'd be pushing up the daisies.

  • @KungfuCow5 Well, I guess we better replace her.

  • @TomMSTie1138 ...Or... KILL THATCHER! KILL IT WITH FIRE!

  • “If there is a God, atheism must seem to Him as less of an insult than religion.”

  • 6:54 LOL humans are ridiculous. They had to cover his junk because....noone know how that looks like really. But it seems showing an ass is morally correct.

  • speaking honestly I wasn't expecting the spanish inquisition.

  • "oh fine well that's a relief"

  • Anyone else think Terry Gilliam looks a bit like Graham Norton at some parts?

  • "If I had a large amount of money I should certainly found a hospital for those whose grip upon the world is so tenuous that they can be severely offended by words and phrases and yet remain all unoffended by the injustice, violence and oppression that howls daily about our ears. "

    -Stephen Fry

  • I don't get one thing. If this is like "christ being crucifed again," didn't the crucifixion, in christian belief, mean redemption for all their souls? So wouldn't this be a GOOD thing?

  • LOB proof that God has a sense of humor.

2 with points and a big flat one

    and a packet of gravel

  • lol some Christian people can be very irrational sometimes

  • "A vicious attack on christianity?" Oh, for GOD's (sorry) sake.... I'm so grateful that I'm blessed with common sense. How must it be to live in mindset like that?? Poor, poor souls...

  • Wow, blasphemy laws? I'm American, so it's hard for me to comprehend that some countries still had laws like this well into the 70's. America is incredibly fucked up but I'm suddenly thankful that we got rid of laws like that early on. Our fundamentalist Christians might be crazier than UK ones though so I probably shouldn't be bragging.

  • Thumbs up if you think Graham Chapman had a nice ass.

  • An interesting note:

The prohibition of any media or literature spells the end of true free speech, a breech in the bill of rights; A breach on the Bill of Rights is a violation of the law and therefore anyone who breaches it is a criminal. What the hell are the Police doing recently?

  • Life of Brian rules!!!!! very funny and insightful films

  • They should have done one about islam...That would have been funny.

  • @OTSTRETFORD - Life of Brian isn't just about one religion it is about all religions and people who blindly follow them. Even political parties - remember the People's Front for Judia ;)

  • The banning of Life of Brian in so many supposedly democratic countries proved that there are still dictatorships in the western world.

  • I desperately need subtitles for this documentary! Please somebody help! Do they exist in any language?

  • hahaaha

  • its crazy why people got offended by this. the film takes the mickey out of the ignorance of people who lived in the time of christ and it takes the piss out of the romans, you would think the religious nutters would like a film that poked fun at the romans.

  • @thedarknesscallingme

Because they are RETARDS!! They don't KNOW they are ignorant and go so arrogant saying anyone who disagrees is a sinner and an idiot! It's a cycle - we call them retards, they stepped up their campaigns, they act even more retarded, so we call them retards more, so they stepped up...

  • Well Christian's are happy to call non-believes fools.

    This movie is MUCH wittier.

And no one was persecuted, torrtured, killed, expelled, thrown in prison, in the makiing of the movie.

  • christianity along with all other religions, deserves to be mercilessly ridiculed. It is utter nonsense.

  • I'm a Christian, and I gotta say, Mary Winehouse was way off on the homosexuality thing.

  • @EltonvonCthulhu

However, her Christianity was no less heartfelt than yours, no doubt. It's your interpreted version against hers.

  • jakieś polskie napisy by się przydały

  • They never undestand the comedy of this movie. I don't know why the got so upset. it wasn't about jesus really. it wans't even focused on the real jesus it was about vrian, the boy that was confused for him.

  • maybe it was saying if there had been a jesus he's been co opted by relious nutters

  • My favourite film is Jesus of Nazareth and my second favourite film is this !

  • Jesus really isn't such a wonderful figure. According to the gospels he said and did some pretty nasty things.

  • Does anyone know what program May Whitehouse was talking about? I'd like to see what sent her off her trolley.

  • @spiderofgod Not 100% sure as I cannot find any reference to it online, but this was her first ever public speech. So considering it's 1964, 6:35PM and more than likely the BBC. The only program I can possibly think of could be was Dr Who which she described as "Teatime brutality for tots".

  • @THEMONKEYG0D Maybe so. Dirtiest program makes it sound so sordid. Can't imagine what the inside of this woman's mind was like.

  • Mary Whitehouse....what a cunt.

  • I bet most people who thinks its offensive haven't even seen it ... sigh such is the way of idiots.

  • That's proven true of most of the public officials who banned it. There's this welsh town that only unbanned it this year because the woman who played Judith became mayor and it's still technically banned in some bible belt cities in the US.

  • Yeah its Aberystwyth and whats funny is that I'm studying there at the university right now :)

  • is this a documentry?

  • Does anyone know where can I see Mary Whitehouse's speech shown on 7:44 ? I'm doing a research and am really interested in seeing it, anyone knows?

  • Funniest movie ever made!

  • whats funny is that the movie portrays exactly what they did when they protested the movie

  • If you are offended by Monty Python, you have a serious problem. You might as well kill yourself, because your life sucks ass. Good Lord.

  • @badalice07 Amen to that!

  • silly wankers

  • Nice to know that people who believe in the Aire Faires are such senseless, humourless drones.

  • I ask you people, what's worse? An offensive movie, or censorship of said movie? I would overwhelmingly say: the censorship.

  • I totally agree; even if a bunch of people like MP would make a totally rotten movie (hard to imagine, but for the sake of the argument) it's better that it comes out. Adult people surely are able to decide for themselves to watch or not to watch it.

  • haha, march against the life of brian

(march for the death of brain?)

  • Gotta love the US - the country where everything is controversial.

  • Funnily enough the Pythons themselves pretty much sum up the attitude of their opponents:

No one likes a good laugh more than I do. Except my wife. And some of her friends. Oh yes, and Captain Johnson. Come to think of it, most people like a good laugh more than I do, but that's beside the point.

  • every person with more than half a brain should understand it´s obviously just a tool to control people and for the less intelligent a way for simple answers

  • is it not strange that every religious person u meet is a couple of sandwiches short from a picknick?...on the other hand maybe not so strange cuz when u belive in crazy stuff like that...u know

  • lol... i can't believe people were really offended by Life of Brian.. it was such a funny movie, and if someone is "blindly faithful" like that woman, mary whitehouse, they shouldn't turn the telly on, should they????? it's silly.

  • They were masterminds creating master pieces.

  • They managed to offend every religion with one movie? Impressive.

  • And wonderful :)

  • How fragile is their faith?......

  • the fuck

  • GOD if you all really belive he made the earth in 7 days and 7 nights then that syas it all for you dumb asses who can ever beleive whats in the bible its like a fairytail book. montypython greate comedy!

  • I've said it before and I'll say it again" if there's one person in this world who can bring down religion and usher in a new satanic age it's John Cleese.

  • I don't understand why religious people care so much that they're being attacked. Atheism gets attacked all the time, but I don't care, because I recognise that not everyone has to believe the same thing.

  • God may be all powerful but he can't defend himself against Monty Python.

  • Difficult to defend yourself against anything when you don't exist!

  • python we're never actually out to get god in life of brian

  • My point was there were many believers who felt their all-powerful, omnipotent Creator needed to be defended, I just found that silly...

I believe in God as well (but as to whether he is a Hairy Thunderer or a Cosmic Cupcake I cannot say).

  • I wonder which program Mary Whitehouse was referring to

  • They should have done the bit were Jesus takes demons out of someone and puts them in a herd of pigs and they all walk of the cliff.

  • I wish you would all keep your hatred of Christianity to yourselves.

  • I wasn't saying anything bad about Christianity, i was just saying it would have been cool if they had done that bit.

  • Religion is ridiculous.

  • only if you take it to the level of those people who so tried to ban this movie.

then again, most "religious" people do so, so I guess you win by shortage of reasonable people (e.g DE2) :(

  • It is just that so many religious people can take it to the extreme and be so fanatical. I am not trying to down any religion. To each their own, but many people I know take it too far. It is the same with ones that would try to have this movie banned. I am sorry if anyone was offended by my comment.

  • its true. but that I think is the problem with human nature as a whole: its tendenc to say: "I have this and am of this, thus it is best for everyone, and everyone must have it", so making people go too far.

but no, you didn't offend anyone I know of-you certainly didn't offend me.

  • Yes it is. Christianity isn't.

  • Christianity is a religion. 'nuff said.

  • If you can't laugh at yourself....

    Well fuck off.

I'm talking to you Religious nutjobs!

  • They sow angels? How long before you can harvest them?

  • can one still get punished by the state for blasphemy in the UK?

  • No, we got rid of the blasphemy laws a year or 2 back.

  • Now they have stonings

  • hah fucking nutcases.

    haven't changed as much, though.

  • The deranged masses in full flow.

Religion.. the cause of so much pain war and death.

Just enough to make us Hate each other.

Not enough to make us Love.

  • Damn, I wish I could understand more =/

  • It seems to me that religious folks were offended by this movie not because it mocks Christ (which it doesn't) - but because they felt THEY were being mocked ( which as far as I'm concerned they were).

  • very wise :D

  • if she new what stuff was on tv today she'd be turning in her grave not to say that todays tele if filthy or anything.

  • catholics should look more on the bright side of life

  • i was making fun of them duh i love this movie

  • i'm a christian and think its a brilliant film

  • Definitely. It doesn't really mock God as such; more mocks religion - which, lets face it, needs mocking sometimes! :P

  • Yeah me too it is the best comedy ever

  • The deranged masses.

  • Man im catholic but ti still think this is funny .

Not all catholics r bible bashers.

  • The Life of Brian is Python brilliance :D

  • ich darf auch soviel leiden.meine leidensweg ist noch nicht vorbei.

  • oh get a life

  • I'm catholic and i loved LIFE OF BRAIN! Tot it was hilarious. Geez its just a movie, its not REAL! My faith is still intact, didnt change at all. I'm still a catholic and growing strong. I know wat a work of fiction is. But damn that was a hella hilarious movie.

  • Tell me if you know what a work of fiction is why are you a catholic, And have faith and belive and all that? If anything is fiction it is the god and "after-life" parts in the big religions. So hopefully since you seem to know what a work of fiction is you dont belive in god or an "after-life" you are only a part of the religion for the social aspects, right?

  • As a Catholic, these protests had a great effect on me. I decided that these religious types were nuts. Then I realized that I was one of them. Guess what? I decided I had enough. How liberating......no more religion.

  • Good on you. Really.

  • Thanks!! I appreciate that.

  • i respect your decision

my faith ended when growing older and thinking about all of it an telling myself: ''damn this whole thing doesn't make any sense''

  • That sounds like spiritual blindness to me.

  • maybe i am spiritually blind, but that's what I gave up to think rationally

  • I was baptised a Catholic, grew up in a Catholic home, was an altar boy, went to a Catholic school.

That did not & does not make me a "religious nut".

It did however provide me with an upbringing that is not necessarilly better nor worse than anyone else. Religion does NOT have to mean enslavement. It can be of benefit to one's life. It is how one chooses to interpret religion that matters. Ppl who dismiss religion per se are morons.

  • "With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."

    - Steven Weinberg

  • BEST COMMENT EVER : )

  • So then what you are saying is that your upbringing WAS better then that of us who don't belive in your phony bullony god? Wow you sure have a way with words.

  • That's "phony baloney" god.

  • God is real. Do you think the universe made itself?

  • Man has been surrendering to ignorance and calling it god since the dawn of history. We don't know what, if anything, made the universe. The existence of the universe is NOT proof that a god exists. In fact, that is a rather weak argument.

  • How can there be creation without a creator?

  • There are viable scientific theories about the universe reached its current state. Saying "god did it" isn't even a theory. It's a hypothesis. It is surrendering to ignorance.

The Bible, Koran, Veda, and all the other "sacred texts" are ancient books written by primitive men who didn't know anything about science. They have never been proven to be anything other than interesting fiction.

  • accidents happen

  • Some accident.

  • stupendous coincidence?

  • so tell me who made god?

  • How can a creator be a creation himself?

  • Nothing and no one spontaneously exists. Everything that exists came from something. You can't have the egg if there is no chicken.

  • 'Nothing and no one spontaneously exists. Everything that exists came from something.'

That rules out the Judaeo-Christo-Islamic account of gods & creation then, eh?

  • That means if there is or was a god there was also one before he/she/it. It also means that humans were not spontaneously generated by some supernatural means.

  • Comment removed

  • 'How can a creator be a creation himself?'

Religionists (especially the Islamo-Judaeo-Christian followers of the Arab religion) argue that one of their gods created humans. If this were true then humans, who are creators themselves, would have been created.

Sama, you've managed to put your argument so that you disagree both with science & religion. Bravo!

  • humanity?

  • yes! this reminds me of this quote:

"If everything went well on earth we wouldn't need any hope for heaven."

  • oh my *god*, how stupid can religious people be.

  • ohh men, God has a sense of humor, he loves it when you make this movies!!!!!

  • Isn't it funny atheist knows more about the bible than most christians I know. Atheist beliefs comes naturally I guess to people who are not sheeps.

  • Well said.

  • But I am a christian and I am not sheep? I have a very strong will of my own and I consider myself a liberal politically. Maybe I am the exception?

  • Nah, there are lots of us. Christians who think and read and search. Minority, but we're out there somewhere...

  • no, your not the exception. majority of christian are fine, unfortunately the few sheeps amongst them are natural loud mouths that keeps getting all the attention. so it leds to stereotypes

  • there are so many bad stereotypes of religious people

Some people treat you like a bible basher as soon as they find out you are a Christian.

I agree, some ruin it for others. :/

  • Education rather than religion. Go Terry!

  • it wuz banned a long time ago because back then they didn't know wut wuz funny like today.

  • Christians are still as stupid as ever.

  • AMEN!!

  • i think that people fail to realise that god can have a laugh about some things too

  • yes, he has a great sense of humor....

  • He is the masire. No he's not he's a very naughty boy! (Best part of the film) lol.

  • the people who took offense in this movie are probably the same people who listen to signers like Ozzy Osbourne and think he's a psychopath and satanist; they just don't know how to take a joke or look beyond the obvious

  • Its so funny too!

  • I'm Catholic, and I think the movie's funny. A true Christian should know that his or

her faith will be mocked. Just take it in

stride, turn the other cheek, and just

    forgive.

  • Amen to that! :D

  • Whatever happened to FREEDOM OF THE PRESS?

  • i dont see why people make such a big deal over this. its just a movie and its funny!

  • They don't understand that part.

  • Its coz they don't have anything else to do. And it's very very boring prey all the day.

  • yeah i belive many people over reacted. but they over react to everything. dogma also. guess free speech doesn't exist when it makes fun of someone. thats why i like south park. fuck everyone.

  • I'm Catholic and I don't see why people got so annoyed about Life of Brian. It's comedy genius. And at the end of the day all it is is comedy, a joke. No ones saying that the man cruxified on the cross wasn't Jesus.

  • The most funny way to proof of atheism .... LONG LIVE MONTY'S .... :))

  • LOL, Monthy Python is funny. :D

  • But then it's ok to insult islam through the media

  • i was raised in a catholic home and was i was baout 15 i realised that people have have all their faith in god have no faith in themselves. how many times have u asked god to help you

but without helpiung urself no one will help you

i belive god is a "person" we turn to when everyone else shuns us out

but maybe instaed of looking at god we should look deep into our souls.

  • convicted for blasphemy?

i didn't know that england was a friggin theocracy!

  • Blasphemy is a victimless crime.

  • Oh those quaaaazy quistians!

  • Thealots are thilly thitithens. Thtupid thods thcrewing up thivilithation.

  • Oh THtop it!

  • eerrr about eleven sir

  • Wath it thomething I thaid?

  • Actually that John Beyer character could have said this:

No one enjoys a good laugh more than I do. Except my wife. And some of her friends. Oh yes, and Captain Johnstone. Come to think of it, most people enjoy a good laugh more than I do, but that's beside the point.

  • best comady film ever

  • hes not the messiah, hes one of the funiest guys on the planet!!

  • Did you see John Cleese among the protesters? LOL

  • god bless the pythons!

  • Well it could have been worse. They could have bombed a bus station or flew a jumbo jet into a skyscraper.

    HA HA HA HA!!!

  • My favorite IS....all of them.

  • Palin and Cleese! My fave Pythons
