I'm all jacked up with shit gone wrong on my bod but this made me smile and feel good - like the "old days" gonna get me a cd. Like about everyone I have worn out Lps and cassettes Hope I can find one with the version of Beat me daddy... that I like best. I think it is this album. The live one that reallynailed it.
Then I will toke up with medical mary and put on headset and get lost in the OZ bless CC ....old guy
Commander Cody and the guys never really got all the recognition they so richly deserve,I feel. These guys set a standard that few (if any) bands ever reached. Crazy, sleezey and rye soaked, C.C. and his Airmen took us into smoke filled honky tonks and similar seedy dives where music's best hang out forever.
My Dad used to look exactly like Billy C back in the early/mid 70's, used to love the Commander too, what a musical influence to have on a 10 year old kid!
luv these guys and often listen to SWEETHEART OF THE RODEO and the COMMANDER in the same session as you do. if ever you can get to Ann Arbor for thIer reunion DO IT
Little did I know that when I bought this album waay back in the very early seventies, at the age of apprx 13, and wud listen to zillions of times, that it wud someday influence my decision at the age of 50, as to where my son wud go to college. He got accepted at several of this nation's finest schools and RPI in Troy was one of them. When i found out that John Tichy is head of one of the Engineering depts, I said "well, that settles it son, thats where yer going." youtube.com/watch?v=-QscGsghuGk
My all time favorite Commander Cody tune... brings back alot of good memories. I have'nt heard this song since too long when...and here it is on You Tube. Makes me feel like I'm sitting back in the old"Tiki Tiki' lounge, amid the plastic palm trees and the pool of carp and tropical fish everybody had to be careful not to fall into...drinking exotiic drinks ...and heading for the ozone...again. Thanks for posting this tune.
Every week day at 4:00 PM, Brother JC Crawford would kick of his radio show at WABX in DeeeeeTroit with this song. JC Crawford is the guy who introduced the MC Five at the Grande Ballroom on their infamous first album. "Brothers and Sisters..are you ready to testify?"
I saw Bobby Black with a little C&W band from the Valley (San Joaquin) and he was still great. We remininsced a bit about the great days with Commander Cody, as I had seen them about four times between 1972 and 1976.
CC&LPA are: Commander Cody (George Frayne) Piano/Lead vocals: Bill Kirchen Lead Guitar/Vocal: John Tichy Rhythm Guitar/Vocals: Buffalo Bruce Barlow on Bass: Lance Dickerson Drums: Bobby Black Pedal Steel: Billy C. Farlow Vocals/Harmonica
Bobby Black hadn't joined Cody at the time of this album. Wikipedia shows Ernie Hagar playing steel, but I don't know if that's correct. Bobby Black is a fine steel player. Country Casanova might have been the first CCLPA record featuring Bobby.
this takes me back some. I heard it back in the 70's and bought the album. Beat me daddy, eight to the bar, seeds and stems...way cool and still cool. Thanks for posting this!!!
Dang, wish I still had my LP and 8 track. Kinda cant find on ebay and amazon except for LP.. And its a bit costly!

@moco635 That's fuckin great! They still play in bars around there. The Commander is in Saratoga. They've been living there for years.

That is Buffalow Bruce Barlow to any one who heard them at Mr. Flood's Party in Ann Arbor in 1969-70.
15 cents draftsts and all the dope you could roll as it was and still is a $5 misdeamaenor for posession of one ounce or more in ASquare.
The pinao fronting the bat works and is used or was used. It looked like a Wurlitzer juke box.
