Her character is stern and shallow. I think she plays it to a T; she sometimes awes me. Perhaps she'd be crappy in another role, IDK. I think she's perfect for this one.

I disagree, the whole point of being an ad exec is that, much as Don said himself, "I use our life all the time in my work, they pay me for that." Their personal lives run concurrent to their professional ones, and the compartmentalization that so many of the characters engage in has been leading to private (Peggy in the bathtub), and not-so-private (Don shaving, with Sally looking up adoringly) breakdowns. The interpersonal conflicts that pervade the show are realistic, hardly soapy.
