  • the skies over the greater vancouver beaches usually only have half that number at the best of times..even in the summertime. honest, this city could be nicknamed cloudsville.

  • Who said there were not music vidoes back then, jut had taken MTV and VH1 to fully dedicated to them.

  • Love the song, but those shorts....OMG!

  • @inkey2 I understand your sentiments, but how can you have "fluffy fun and superficial joy" when for a number of reasons, so many people are hurting deeply inside? Bottom line is that our entire socio economic system has auto-immune disease. It used to be that if you got a good education, you could get a good job. Now, if you get a good education, you get a lousy job (if any) and a huge debt. The Reagan Revolution has now come full circle. So blame Reagan and his supporters, not today's youth.

  • Awesome mood lifting song! What a day to start my day!

  • i used to sing this when i was about 4 or 5 to my mum...im now 34 and sadly lost my mum 3 years ago....memories of happy times ...cant beat 60's music.

  • The women in this video are hot! Great song too.

  • this song says it all someone is always looking BG

  • All those hotties are now in nursing homes

  • How come women in those days seem to be MORE HOTTER than today's generation?? I'm saying this as a 20 year old!

  • This short is just a few years ahead of its time. Did you have to be of drinking age to get into the places that used Scopitone machines?

  • Sixties Forever 1966, that year was far from perfect (I was there, too). But like you, I would go back in a New York minute! I was just thinking about this last night...about some of the things you mentioned. There are many times I wish the clock would have just stopped.

  • I wish somebody would make an R rated version of this using the same type of people...huge, gay-looking body builder guys, euro-style model females, and everyone wearing designer beach clothes. I don't need porn, just want to see the high-style kissing and beslobbering and caressing.

  • Love Bobby! Local boy who did good! Someone asked me to sing this, I just can't! It wouldn't be the same without Bobby singing it! He still does concerts ! ! !

  • You can see Bobby's sack at 2:47

  • Bobby is quite "Aw Shucks" goofy in this video.

  • The brunette in the two piece suit with the white top is hot!

  • TAKE A GOOD LOOK.. HE RESEMBLES RICK ASTLEY. OR VISA VERSA.

  • hey no tattoos on any of these babes!!!. no tramp stamps!. what a nice sight to see. whats gonna happen to all you girls when you are 65. droopy old bags with tattoos. yum what a sight.

  • @molly1246 Thank you!! The guys & gals in the clip are more gorgeous than so many of the young folks we see today.

  • Doesnt get any better than this. His girlfriend is cookin!. I take her in a heart beat. That was when america was so together and not a bunch of assholes

  • inkey you are so right i can use that too

    alan.

  • This is one of the most bizarre music videos I have ever seen... Bobby Vee treats his girlfriend like she is his Sister!

  • @casey3234 It was 1962. C'mon!

  • He was adorable!

    Great singer!

    *****stars

  • And they say that we in the Dakotas have no talent!

  • the 45 rpm is different mix

  • The version of this song from Dark City sung by jennifer connely was way better

  • Oh! I want the birth to that year! I can feel the love in those days more honest than today. see just how the couple...

  • Pure awesomeness.

  • A different time when guys weren't afraid to show their thighs. Oh, yes: great song!

  • We all look real back then :) No Botox, boob jobs or lipo just us real girls!

  • Notice that the girls aren't anorexic with boob jobs.

  • back then you didnt have to worry about getting aids

  • WAY COOL! I have always loved this song, but I never saw the video.

Thanks so much for posting!!! And I am SO ready to go BACK TO THE BEACH!!!!!!

  • I think after they filmed this, everybody went back to the dressing room to have sex. (dirty mind at work)

  • @Lockbar Think again!, back when this video was made everything was plain & simple. This video glamorizes a beach party that didn't take place back.. I grew up in this era & let me tell you that Bikini's & even two piece sunwear was non-existant back in '63. Here in Vancouver Cda we have a number of beaches(Kitsilano) & it wasn't until '70 that u would see Bikini tops along with cut-off jeans!!!ok, so u tell me why u think they had sex after shooting this sexy video!?? YES!..yes/yes?

  • @Ezdduf4kuZ You're talking about Canada, I'm sure that bikinis were on the beaches back then in California, Florida and the beaches of France. My relatives live in Canada too, and they were behind the USA in fashion etc. until a couple of decades ago.

  • 26 People don't agree the night has a 1000 eyes!

  • This is so bad that I love it! LOL!!

  • Another tune from my youth I haven't heard in many years. Still sounds as good as it ever did. Timeless.

  • The best of the best 60's hits

  • @CuteMcBeauty ...I agree. It's a shame that most guys are afraid to wear speedos or square-cut trunks on the beach anymore. The straight guys don't, at any rate. They insist on wearing those big boardshorts that reveal nothing. It's like, what are they hiding? Or hiding from?

  • OMG, THE DUDE YEAH-YEAHING IN A BLUE SPEEDO!!! AWSOME!! TAKES A REAL MAN TO BUGALOO LIKE THAT DRESSED IN A SPEEDO!!!

  • Hahahah at one point I could see one of the boulder´s shadow reflected on the "night sky"... Hahaha!! But I reaaaaally dig that crazy go-go dancing!!! I wish I had lived in these times!!!

  • One of the catchiest songs of a decade full of very catchy songs!

  • Well I live in Northern Illinois .. am middle aged .. had my husband put tons of sand in the backyard corner and a fire pit. Makes me feel good to put my feet in the sand and sit by the fire... even found palm trees that grow in the North! We love to party out there in the summer... next I want a patio heater so I can stay out there as long as possible...Love the oldies ...no music like this around anymore

  • Great oldies singer.

    Great singer. Thumbs up

  • This is probably the worst video I've ever seen! Hilarious!!!

  • When I was like 10 I used to be obsessed with song and would sing it all the time.Wow my parents are old lol im 13.

  • well folks this is the way it once was,,, good or bad,, like it or hate it,, life was better,, this is the type of music that I still play on my radio staion out in the Hamptons ( N.Y.,) been in radio for 35 years and I see all the changes in the music industry,,in those days you could actually understand the words and the music,, peace

  • That girl on the rock is HOT

  • thise dances bring me into the land of the 60's

  • loved those little suzuki bikes......

  • Bobbie Vee was the 1960s Justin Bieber.

  • The singer looks like a young Steve Martin. This video is so campy it is cool.

  • What a masterpiece!

  • 3:00 if you could define true happiness this is it.

  • I REMEMBER MY FRIEND AND ME REPAIRED THIS GUYS VIDEO MACHINE THAT HAS ABOUT A DOZEN OR SO 16 MM MOVIES ON IT IT WAS ABOUT 7 FEET TALL AND YOU PUT A QUARTER IN IT AND IT PLAYED YOUR SELECTION(LIKE A JUKE BOX WITH A SCREEN ON TOP IT WAS SOO COOL THIS WAS THE MID 70'S AND WE WERE LIKE 13 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME I REMEMBER BOBBY VEE PRETTY GIRLS AND THOUSAND EYESI WISH I HAD THAT CONTRAPCTION IN MY FAMILY ROOM HAVE A GREAT NITE... ALAN

  • @5191keith Definitely not! Actually, I can remember that seeing someone grossly obese was quite a sight well into the 1980s (this was before my time, but "the fat lady" was a fairly popular attraction in freak shows). Now they seem to make TV programs even where being incredibly fat is taken as a "given" (like "Mike and Molly").

  • I luv his songs...his lyrics have a valid point...

  • Gog-go dancing with seaweed? With all those "sand fleas", that would be really messy! And what about that girl in a camisole? I don't think I've EVER, even today, when "pop stars" are supposedly "slutty", seen anyone wearing just underwear on a beach...

  • Wannabe Frankie Avalon :) lol

  • What do they say about the masses?

  • Um, wow.

  • I am in serious need of an early 1960s beach party........this new century sucks major ass

  • @inkey2 Me too. When it's on can you organise an invite for me

  • @inkey2 If that aint the truth....The good ole days!

  • @sixtiesforever1966 yeah, I am so phukin sick of this century......I am tired of seeing cars that look like toasters with 4 wheels and no chrome, 250 pound 10 year olds walking around, bad government, shitty schools, people dressed like horses asses, cops working as revenue collectors instead of peace officers, turned around hats, adults dressed like Spanky from the little rascals,....I just want to get a crew cut, slip on my penny loafers and smoke a lucky strike

  • @inkey2 Im stealing this. This sums up every complaint I have right now

  • @inkey2 Yes. Lets go back to the days of racial and sexual oppression and overwhelming conformity! Great plan. Things looked good at least, I agree on that point.

  • @yukznfunnyz well.....lets look at the year 2012 in the USA....mired down in long term wars, terrorism, 300 bank failures in the last 3 years, a dollar back by absolutely nothing, sky rocketing; national debt, illegal drug use & epidemic of child suicides from bullying.....mexican drug cartels taking over the entire south west, ten U S states going bankrupt, the constitution being dismantled, ..........I don't know about you but i'll still take the beach party days

  • @inkey2 Hmm. Well... lets look at 1962... Severe racism, severe sexism, fear of nuclear attack, the cold war, Marilyn Monroe commiting suicide by overdosing on pills, Vietnam, murders and lynchings at Civil Rights protests. Yeah! Sounds like a real beach party!

What simple, carefree times! Oh to return to them.

  • @yukznfunnyz For me it was the happy time when LUIS MUN~OZ MARIN was governor of my PR. A great man, whose present day successor, the embezzler and traitor misFortuno, is not fit to lick the soles of his shoes.

  • @yukznfunnyz so you don't think severe sexism and racism doesn't exist now? How many gay school children have killed themselves over being harassed about their sexuality. You hear about a new case every week. Severe racism exists mow only it has switched to Arab Muslims instead of blacks. As far as Marylin Monroe...so one movie star over doses because she was upset about John F. Kennedy and his brother using her as a sex toy....so what. Nuclear attack.....the threat is worse than ever

  • @inkey2 Let's put on our clam diggers and grab some girl with her hair full of White Rain and her lips shiny with ice pink gloss.........You can borrow some English Leather from me, if only you can find the girl and the beach and tell me how to get there..........

  • @iamintheburg that sounds good.....lets load up our new (aqua colored) Rambler station wagon, fill the solid steel cooler with ice & 6 oz bottles of coke, grab a carton of unfiltered Pall Malls at the local drug store, bring a lunch box size transistor radio (the type with the big leather strap on the top to carry it)......hit the beach in style....cooler, radio, large beach towel, green collapsible beach chairs.......I am totally up for it

  • @inkey2 I'm there, mon frere. I'll bring the Brylcreem ( you have your own comb, OK? ), CopperTone, and Lorna Doones; also got the Hoola hoops...maybe I can hike my little sister's close 'n' play record player and we'll have 45's to dance to -- SURF IS UP, MOON DOGGIE !

  • @inkey2 Amen friend- always ;-)

  • @inkey2 Could'nt agree more friend

  • @inkey2 About 35 years ago some University of Chicago students had the same idea. A mile away was a Lake Michigan Beach, only it was about 0 deg Farenheit outside and the lake was frozen The sand was covered with snow. What did they do? They found a big open area in the University's Joseph Regenstein Library (some videos on youtube made there, check it out) and opened a beach umbrella, laid down some beach towels. I think they also brought an artificial palm tree in as well.

  • @moosatious a new counter culture should be ignited....short well groomed hair, penny loafers, clean shaven, white socks.......a culture of fluffy fun and superficial joy where there is no words more vulgar than "gee golly, damn, your mother wears army boots, and you smell bad." They will all do the "twist" and their biggest concern would be what junior college to get into and if they look enough like Pat Boon, George Hamilton , sanda Dee or Annette Funicello

  • what album is this on? I just picked up a greatest hits and it is not there.

  • I saw Bobby, Brian Hyland and the Chiffons at a benefit concert about a month ago. Great show for a great cause. It was fun to sing along to all the great songs. Lots of old people. Keep it up!

  • Oh, wow, what a find! This is like, way groovy & kool, man! Regards, '62 Mathew St. (Total Retro Rock)

  • I like old song its so good to hear but i love i love new songs to ...... i can listen to all kind of music...

  • I first heard this and watched the original film reel on a Scopitone Music Film Jukebox at Ashorne Hall Nickelodeon (when my friend Craig Boswell was resident organist). I fell in love with this wonderful pop tune; it has remained a great favourite of mine ever since.

  • epic movez

  • lol dig the little hondas oh which i had one back in 1966

  • my mum is a massive 60s fan - that was her era , so I grew up listening to songs like this - now I am a huge fan of 60s music too - love this song and bobbys other one that I know RUBBER BALLS :)

  • a good song can be found anywhere!

  • wow,,thats a good video for that era....Songs of that time,,made you thought of LIFE,LOVE,and FUTURE,,now songs make you think of where the nearest pharmacy is,so you can take headache pills....

  • See music videos have been around decades before Vh1 and MTV and others. Why did I think it was Bobby Vinton and not Bobby Vee who sand this same initals and too many Bobbys also get confused,

  • he is so handsome!

  • @jeanniedee

try poasting it as 2:50 so we can get to the segment

  • I like the tune....but the choreographer should have been severely reprimanded / fired / deported to another country....

  • @unclebob100 LOL! That probably holds true for just about all of these Scopitones! But they are fun...in a "it's so bad, it's good" sort of way! But I have to agree with you. :-)

  • Mint. I grew up on songs like this.

  • saw him in concert what a personality and just as good as he was when he was this age.. love this video

  • The Girl on the Bike is a very young Patricia Smith who lives in spain now. She tells us she was 18 when this was filmed. She was working for a dance troup.

  • Can anyone tell me what film this is from please?

  • @annie482000 Go back to the post by CrashingCrockery 3 months ago. No film; early music video! I never knew.

  • @annie482000

    this is a scopiotone

Scopitone is a type of jukebox featuring a 16 mm film component. It was a forerunner of music video. By the end of the 1960s, the popularity of the Scopitone had faded. The last film for a Scopitone was made at the end of 1978. As of the mid-2000s, one of the few Scopitones not in a museum or private collection in the United States was located at the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville, Tennessee. look on wikipedia for more information...

  • @TEMPmichaelhansen Thanks, TEMPmichaelhansen. I'd forgotten all about my question and I've called up the Wikipedia page on scopitones. Will be reading up a bit more shortly. I still love to hear the Bobby Vee track as it takes me right back to the early 60s when I was still in single figures! Oh the memories of the songs from way back then................no rap, no violence in the lyrics and you could sing along to the words once you learned them! :)

  • that speedo-guy has got some dance moves, haha!

  • This is both entertaining and disturbing at the same time- the girls who is kicking her legs all about or the girl on the scooter- why is she flapping her legs? WHY?

Lots of girls out of control flapping their legs...

There is much less innocence in this era than one thinks...

  • @suittied Oh yes - After I mentioned in last post about the innocence of this time, you're right it wasn't all that innocent but a little simpler and easy going.

  • @MrDavelitz Nothing like this was going down on the beaches or lakesides here in this neck of the woods!, Vancouver Canada to pinpoint the exact location. You could go to Kitsilano Beach/English Bay and tou would see a bikini poking around at this time/no way, okey! Perhaps at Huntington Beach in Greater L A, where everything was in an advanced mode..Dirty Book stores, Mary-Jane, Sex and of coarse Bikinis. Again, not here, we were too busy listening to Top40 rdio & Bobby Vee. Thx4 postin'

  • Is everybody having fun yet? I love this corny video and the music and look of the early 1960's! Makes me want to go to a beach party, if only we could party like this on the beach any more. If only the kids of today were still this fresh and innocent. Anyway - Bobby Vee still rocks!

  • Remembering 1963......

  • What a hilarious video, ah much simpler times

  • Thanks for the post.

  • 1:48...oh...wow...erm....hahahahahaha

  • I often ride mopeds in my pants in the middle of the night :)

  • @ThEcAtScAmEbAcK Without a helmet.

  • is it true he was gay?

  • 1:05 Reminds me on a beetle that fell on its back and can't get on it's feet.

  • @Makkoito -So true!

  • Well, Jerry Lee Lewis got a scandall with his 13 yeaor old cousin. Chuck Berry got jail. Little Richard started sing gospel. Elvis went to the army. Ritchie Valens, Big Bopper and Buddy Holly died in a tragic plane crash. The rock & Roll was quiet dead... This gave space to funny performers like Bobby Vee get atention and some fame for a while.

This keep for a while until the Beatles became famous and Rock reborn, Yeaahh, yeahhh baby... ohnnn yeahhn

  • The girl in 1:46 looks too suggestive !!!

Really strange, despite the music be somewhat nice to heard. The people on beach is too funny.

  • The scene from 0:51 to 0:58 is just hysterical.

  • Happy Birthday, Bobby!!

  • THE GIRL DOING SCISSOR KICKS ON THE BIKE IS FABULOUS! As is the adorable Bobby Vee with his hair blowing when he's on his hog in the beginning, and that tease of a jacket unzipped JUST far enough. Just enough to be Too Hot. But the girls.

    The girls.

One of them is dancing with a KELP BOA for heaven's sake...

  • I'm a big fan, and I was probably 16 when this was produced. But, why? We had no music videos back then. Nothing in the movie theatres, nothing for this on TV. When would it have been aired? It is pretty risque for that era. Any answers?

  • @rwkennedy From what I have heard, Scopitones were like a sort of "video jukebox," you would put money in, & get to peek at a little movie (it was always scratchy old film I imagine from lots of play) while your song played. Apparently the whole notion did NOT catch on, & was very expensive to do. But it's GREAT this one survived, it really does have all the vitality (and suggestiveness!) of a current-day music video.

  • Great song!!

  • Yowzers! Sort of a sixites music video! A wonderful retro look at fashions of the 60's! What a gem to watch today for first time....THANKS for posting! I always liked the music of Bobby Vee...I think he was always an underated talent. You've made my day & my week! CHEERS! :)

  • He is lucky nothing popped out of those shorts

  • 283,925 little white lies, on ths the 13th day of march & it's a saturday...wouldn't you know it! Let's party with the BSB's, cause listening to this song just made for another little white lie, so now it's 283,926. Thanks for the party on the beach, i'm gonna boogaloo every saturday night to this video, so keep it posted.

  • 283,925 little white lies, on ths the 13th day of march & it's a saturday...wouldn't you know it! • And a thousand eyes can't see.

  • It was the white lies that killed me. Little whit lies !

  • I like Bobby Vee, but this video is real Sappy and corny.I guess not at the time it was done.

  • He also has kids that have a GREAT band and a super wife.. Also he is a GREAT guy - time for fans and all..

  • An all-time classic "Music Video" (before there was such a thing.) I can't count how many times I've seen the clip of the dude in the blue bikini dancing!

  • The original tune was completely different - I mean, the arrangement isn't the same

  • @artrocker65 remixed

    yes it happened a lot

  • My favorite are the one in the zebra bikini, and the one at 1:42 on the left.

  • @Firejack95 Just try to forget the fact these 'girls' are now grandmas in their 60s!

  • There were no music videos back then...trust me. I have no idea why this was produced, but I love it. Complete c. 1964 kitsch, from my junior year, maybe? Love those ruffled bikinis! Not to mention the bikes. Mine was a Yamaha 55, a big bruiser. Would have fit well on that beach.

  • @rwkennedy Thanks for the info. It at least makes sense of why there would be a music video in that ere.

  • yeah, yeah, blah blah; right, chicks back then weren't so scrawny as now, and guys cover their thighs now, but Keep in mind this is a good tune!!!

  • I know what your're saying maxti6, and I believe you know just what I'm saying....to reassure everybody understands, if these young ladies in this video were not to have aged aday since this video was shot and were to reappear as is or in french bikinis, I'm sure they'd still draw alot of attention at the beach, for the simple reason their hot chicks to begin with. The one with her arms around Bobby is my favorite. Thx for posting a video that could of been taken last summer, it's that hot!

  • It's hard to imagine the ladies in this video are now in their 70's or beyond...including the cute young ones.

  • Back when this was a major hit, chicks like the ones seen in this video were all hot...actually these kinda gals would still look great today. Give it some thought and then go check out all the gals at English Bay, in Vancouver Cda...and not just some of them. Check em all out on a warm & busy afternoon at this beach, then you'll know yourself how these chicks in thevideo really stack up. I don't recall beachwear of this sort back when, bikini tops were first seen along with the cutoffs. thx

  • That girl dancing behind him up on that rock is actually hot!

  • really great song but not the greatest video clip of it

  • creepiest lyrics ever

  • Beach parties of this sort weren't going on around here, where we have more beaches than ou can shake a stick at. At least I never heard of them & the drinking age was still 21 here in Vancouver Canada and whats more there was no places to hangout...no malls, Mcdonalds & no slurpees. Baseball cards, marbles and doowop on the radio(am only). kinda makes me think just how far we've come along...there are those things I miss about the good ol' days like no sunday shopping & alot of bobby vee hits

  • The drinking age is back to 21 here in the United States of Assininity and being young is more and more a criminal act. Glad I was young in the 1970s when we had freedom.

  • where did those big natural boobs of the sixties and seventies go? :D

  • The tops they wore, like in this video were pretty thick and had ruffles that enhanced their boobs.

Mostly, however, the reason that natural ones are smaller on the girls you see on TV now is that the girls now are way skinnier, which affects their breasts a lot. While they aren't necessarily fat, or even chubby, in these videos, they are not the size zero models you see today. For all the weight that today's models lose around their waist and hips, they lose a lot from the top.
