Am I the only one who LOVES Flora Purim's screeches of pure musical genius? I only wish Airto had also been on stage ... but then again, I wouldn't change a single note of this show. Still gives me goose bumps. Anyone remember Hermeto and Airto's 'Quarteto Novo album'? And for those not familiar with Flora ... check out her albums 'Milestone Memories', 'Humble People', or 'Carry On' ... not to mention her vocals in Chick Corea's first two Return To Forever albums. My favorite jazz vocalist!
Yes, Jovino Santos Neto (ex-Grupo pianist) told me so. It's surly confusing, since there's a track with the same title on the Zabumbê-Bum-Á album. While the one on Zabumbê-Bum-Á is basically multiple overdubs of Hermeto's solo improvisation, this fully constructed theme was a staple in his live sets from late '70s to early '90s.
This version is one of many unreleased compositions by Hermeto. None of his official albums has it. (The same goes for Campinas, the tune prior to Suite Paulistana in this Montreux footage).
Although it's not available on his official albums, you can find it at YouTube. The live footage from Pori '84 has Suite Paulistana. Search "Hermeto Pori". Or, go straight to Pori part 6 (watch?v=zrR0sXnn42s) and part 7 (watch?v=7FdWADz5nig).
I was sleeping thinking I was on another video and accidently gave this one star.
I meant to give it five stars.
I am sorry. I love this video and Hermeto.
This song is really interesting. I am not into the vocals totally, but the instrumentation is wonderfully unique and beautiful in its own whimsical way.
