It is true that prostitution shouldn't be considered a crime, and if someone uses such services it's their private business. However, Spitzer has made a career out of making peoples' private business the business of the government - hardly "progressive" by any measure. He is a loathsome, state-worshipping demagogue and has fallen victim to the same mechanism he has employed to ruin others' lives. Good riddance.

At least Spitzer's a heterosexual, not a closet bisexual like George W. Bush. This male cheerleader had sex with the Mayor of Knoxville, among others. In his pilot days, whenever he got drunk, he would take off his clothes & start dancing naked in front of the other men. He was busted for cocaine. He is a life-long alcoholic. He is a thief arrested for stealing $300,000 in the Harkin Energy scandal. Daddy Bush fixed the case for him. He murdered a million Iraqi civilians. He wrecked our economy.

More modern studies have put the adultery rate as high as 66% for men. The Kinsey Institute has a webpage, if you care to look at their statistics. 92% of men masturbate, also much higher than women.

I would discourage the Kinsey Institutes findings as they are notorious for devaluing American morality.
I find it troubling that Spitzer's acolytes defend him by attacking morality - in the words of the late Democratic New York Senator Patrick Moniyhan - dumbing down morality instead of addressing the problem of widespread immorality.
Prostitution may be legal in Europe and more readily accepted but its not in American and Eliot Spitzer prosecuted people for doing exactly what he has done.

Grow up. Most white males have used prostitutes. Case closed. I don't care much if the number is 69%, 80% or 66%. Spitzer was very wealthy, could have any woman. Everybody from Kennedy to Sinatra has used hookers. Either you are gay, have a low sex drive, have led a sheltered life, or are a religious nut. Many men cheat; Most men use hookers. Case closed. Spitzer was targeted by his enemies, because he was too honest. His one "weakness" was exposed, so his career would be ruined.

How ironic that the Times would break the story that federal authorities had caught Spitzer on a wiretap, involved with a very high-priced prostitution ring called the Emperors Club. He was suddenly known simply as "Client 9." On a business trip to Washington last month, he registered at the posh Mayflower Hotel under the name "George Fox" (a donor of his) and arranged for a call girl to meet him there in a room on the eighth floor.
