In 1985, I was invited to Wards for the fire up of his 1881 Nevada Baldwin coal burner. He had to get a permit from the city to fire it up. He was staging a race with my co worker Tom Sherman's steam powered Iron Man. Wards put me on top of the box car behind the tender as his brakeman, and I could look down into the engine cab and watch Ward having a ball running the train after so many years of silence. His overgrown orange trees were throwing oranges everywhere as we glided along the track.
i lived a few blocks from him and i saw his trains in person

They should have made a tourist attraction out of Ward's railroad. Boy would it be neat to own something like this.

i wonder, did Ward Kimball have any kids or grandsons? if he did, did they at least keep a few items?
