No, all I know about them is that every winter huge flocks like this come through Delmarva. I was just driving down highway 113 and there they were. Why have they become too numerous for their tundra habitat? Has a predator disappeared? They are still magnificent creatures, a lack of conservation agenda is not their fault. They are, after all, birdbrains.
It's the way they eat actually that destroys the tundra. They're "grubbers" which basically means they tear up the roots of what they eat. So in the case of the tundra, where they breed, the tundra can't recover from them eating the roots. They are extremely hard to hunt as you could guess by the size of the flocks they travel in. There are huge bag limits for hunting them and few restrictions to try to reduce there numbers.
Magnificent? Do you know anything about snow geese at all? They are destroying the tundra ,AKA their own breeding grounds, and are trying to be controlled by everyone who cares about the future of the tundra.
