Of course with studio/commercial recordings you can always do a lot of polishing and hers of this aria is just sublime, but I guess one would have to say this is the REAL thing and a live performance and as such I think it is marvelous in the way in which she brings the whole coloratura arsenal to bear and all the big guns firing! Can anyone else do these runs, roulades, trills and the whole gamut live like this with such ease and aplomb? O bravissima Beverly! RIP.
Perfection! A reminder that before the mid-20th century, this aria and the role of Elvira in Ernani was always sung by light voices - Sembrich, Patti, etc. Sills is outstanding, as always.
@KathrynARyder Yes, and at least some conductors have cast lyric sopranos in the last 30 yrs.. It always struck me as a role for a lighter higher voice.
