  • This is for some of my enemies that wanna steal my electricity projects! Let them pay for their debut about that old technology crash! That power substation is so better that it blew up to hell!

  • Yes, it is the oil in the transformer tank that fueled the fire

  • Just out of interest can somebody tell me what fuels the fire from an electrical issue? I'm not being a smart ass, I actually want to know.

  • OMFG THE TERMINATOR IS REAL!

  • Keep away from electrical, substations and explosions unless you want to be killed and burnt to death and toasted.

  • If anybody is daft enough to be near the exploding transformer, they will get a fatal electric shock and be burnt to toast. That is a certainty, not a hypothesis, a theory, a fantasy, a supposition or even an opinion it is a very well known fact you will be killed and burnt to toast.

  • is that the transformer-cooling oil burning?

  • Can someone send me this video??

  • If carlsberg did substation explosions....

....This is probably the best video of one on the internet, I first saw this about 8 years ago before youtube existed.

  • Damn my Powers Out.

  • SIMPSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ooooooo it's angry alright!

  • Красота.

  • I'm sure Beavis and Butthead caused this. They probably said, "why is this fence here? We can't get in, this sucks. Then they threw an old bicycle on the equipment and said, '" Fire! Fire! that's cool!

  • thats awesome

  • Toasty. D8

  • Some chick screaming at :19

  • National Grid at its best!

  • holy shit

  • Awesome

  • fuking cool as a donkey's tit in winter!!! wow....

  • brave camera man!

  • More like brave camera tripod

  • @angrymittens

    XDDD

  • @mattcurupt I believe that's "Set up the tripod and run like hell!"

  • was someplace in florida

  • where was this at? please send me a messege and let me know!

  • you know... it's that last bang that really makes this satisfying on the fourth of july.

  • All the substations and PMT I have worked on use mineral oil and these are brand new wind sites.

  • Now that was totally cool. Hollywood, eat your heart out!!!

  • Holy Toledo! I wonder how long the power was out for the people who got their electricity from this substation?!?

  • hoooooooooooooly shit.

  • well now we know how the windows xp hill cme to be lol jk

  • I SURE hope that radio at the end with them saying 'Control, available' was NOT for that.

  • wow!!!!

never seen any thing like it!!!

    added it to my fav's

  • What was burning? Surely they wouldn't store highly flammable materials at a substation?

  • The transformers need an electrically insulating coolant.

Before the 60's PolyChlorinated Bifenyl(PCB) was used.

    Then mineral oil.

Today most new builds use either esters, flourinated hydrocarbons or silicone-based coolants.

  • Ah. Thanks for the info.

  • Truly an awesome sight to behold. Slightly inconvenient for those whose electricity went out as a result.

  • that was cool

  • thts fuckin sweet!

  • where's the cold beer??? for watchin the show... ha ha ah

  • ditto halolvl43legit

  • that fire looked awsome

  • it didnt explode, it was on fire and the mineral oil or whatever is inside the transformer to protect it leaved out and thats the spay you see everywhere. then it caught fire and the bang you hear is the breaker tripping, cutting the power.

  • wow u r really retarded if thats not an explosein i dont know wut is

  • when you hear the bang you see a flash which is the high voltage fuse blowing and if you notice the fire started before the bang.

  • "wow u r really retarded if thats not an explosein i dont know wut is"

Since there's no shockwave and no sudden increase in volume; this is just a fireball.

  • This is 100% correct and whoever voted it down is a fool.

  • sorry! i was on the other side of that bush taking a piss and let out a huge fart.

  • Heh toilet humor ha ha...

  • I wonder if another bird flew in to the transformer like with the last US blackout

  • thats really scary, I live RIGHT NEXT to one of those things

  • wow one big transformer explotion. lol quiet a few people got scared.

  • Best explosion on Youtube.

  • unreal looked like the transport from the movie contact

  • hahahaha that was motherfucking sweet

  • Now that was cool. Thanks for the video!

  • Wtf was that?

  • somebodys golf ball did that, stupid golfers.

  • LOL

  • sorry, dudes... that was me. i dropped my psp, and then...

  • kl did u set it on fire?

  • the cooling oil in them things are as flammable as hydraulic oil

  • yep that's why you see black smoke then the fireball

  • See kids, this is why when your parents tell you not to go too close to something, you listen.

  • truly remarkable.

  • hahahah my m8 house is about 10meters from one ov these!!!

  • once that oil gets hot kaboom... very nice

  • BTW Were Was This

  • OMFG I Would Not Be Standing Or Filming Right Next To A Sub Station On FIRE

  • That is so cool. I don't know what's better, the fireball or the sound effects.

  • now THAT is an arc welder !!

  • thats what happens when you get the substation pissed off except he cut off the really bad stuff

  • nah, the guy probably was just there to video an accident or just took it from somewhere else, this stuff happens you know!

  • The transfomers at substations and on power poles are filled with oit to help keep them cool. Hence the fire ball. Cool vid man!

  • that was so awesome.

  • Wow you probly connected a bunch of wires together and turned it on flwoing every thing together flaming on fire :D smart

  • what the f did you do to that thing pray tell. go on give us a clue.

  • that was amazing, love to see that for real,

  • breakin the law, breakin the law

  • kewl

  • awesome!!

  • so how can I make a substation do that?

  • over load it

  • That's what you get for installing Windows XP.

  • so you have a mac right?

  • Um, no, it's called making a joke.

  • Nice

  • Brilliant!

  • funny

  • we're all missing hte point of this video. The Fire! Fire Cleanses All

  • this event occurred at the Ives Dairy Substation located near San Simeon Way and Biscayne Boulevard in Miami, Florida. It is believed to have occurred in 2000 or 2001

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLL^^

  • i could hear electric arcs

  • see this website for a full detailed description of this event and what caused it:

    http://205.243.100.155/frames/longarc.htm

  • I used to work for Schweitzer Engineering Lab. If they would have had Schweitzer's products in there, this wouldn't have happened. We watched this video at a meeting one time, and this is a substation's nightmare.

  • Well people wonder what caused this. many sub-stations have tremendous amounts of power running through them, upwards into 450kV, most transformers are oil filled and under pressure so obviously shorts at such high voltage can cause heat and explosions like such :) This explosion is quite small compared to some i've seen in the field taking out at least equivelent to a football field or two in damage. This guy was very lucky it was a small station, or he'd be screwed

  • i guess the explosion happens by the combustion of the oil inside the circuit breakers, it is there to prevent the electric sparks but at that high temperatures it becames fuel.

  • BOOM

  • beautiful!

  • wtf dude, what is with americans "i know how to put out an electric fire, lets pour water on it!" thats why it exploded

  • If you read some earlier comments, it is not water you are seeing, it is pressurized coolant oil coming from the ruptured tranformer, that is why it bursts into flames right after you see it spewing from the building

  • and, I forgot to add since you were bashing the citizens of my county, what is it with you austalians, thinking water bursts into flames like that? :)

  • this is so awesome

  • that is definately special F/X worthy. Most "real" explosions are let downs (visually speaking). Did you slow down the footage at all?

  • SHIT DUDE!! that was awsum

  • killer

  • EXCELLENT

  • Wow Nice stuff!

  • Nice!

  • fuckin sweet

  • Awesome. The scream made it that much better. Good fireballs.

  • awesome

  • thats so fucking awesome

  • §uper big boom §or†a

  • flash was an expulsion fuse that FINALLY blew and shut off the power to the damn xfrmr.

google long arcs and sparks for the original website and original video with full info on this substation's failure

  • sweet!

  • what was that flash (and to skyhigh16 yea iherd it too it was a scream)

  • omfg it's fuckin awesome dude!

  • i think i heard a scream right after the explosion...tell me if im wrong

  • wups

  • ....indeed

  • that shit kicks ass

  • is that magneito???? hahahah that must have been SHOCKING to seehhahahahhahaha

  • pwnt

  • dude that was fucking awesome

  • what caused the fire? that was lethally awesome

  • hey that fireball is easy to get i bought one for 20$ once

    i was bein sarcastic

  • what i wana no is who set the fire? and how did the camera man get there so quick?

  • I'd be kinda scared if I was there to see that. Still, sweet power surge. Wonder what caused it.

  • Wow, that is cool. :D

  • did something fall from the sky after the explosion look at the right at the last two seconds

  • YOU MEEN THE SHADOW

  • yea, the sky fell.

  • looks and sounds like the Terminator tried to come back through time but didn't quite make it.

  • exactly, and luckily for the camera man.

  • That makes such a fantastic sound

  • duuuuude like...tooooootaly...

  • POWER RANGERS!

  • o rite the oil

  • lol

  • holy shit.. where did the fireball come from?

  • F*** me. O_O;; ...

  • that guy down there is really smart. its a reasonable explanation too. Gj sir

  • glad to see safety at its best...

  • BBQ!

  • sweet.

  • holy...

  • OOPS!

  • sike no it was tin foil in a microwave =D

  • see! i told u wet fingers and plug sockets werent good for u.

  • The excessive current draw overheated the transformer and caused the oil inside to heat up and spray out through the vents then catch fire upon hitting the arc. The flames then short out the high voltage side and blows the expulsion fuse (purple flash and bang)However, the transformer tank bursts shortly after and spills the burning oil all over.

  • Wow cool. Thanks for the explanation

  • It started as a capicator bank failing and causing the arc fault to ground which drew excessive current. Normally, it would trip off the breakers but due to the protection hardware's power suppply failure, it just continued.

  • This video has been flying around the web for a while. From the original source, I have heard this may be the Ives Dairy Substation in Miami, Florida. It turned out that a power supply for the station's protection hardware failed and that caused the circuit breakers to be stuck in the on position. Without that, the station couldn't sense the arc fault and it continued until the transformer overheated and failed

  • o.o Cooolll...What caused it? Twas cool, whatever it was. Heeyyy...o.o I know where our substation is...hehe...

  • That's why you don't overload plugs

  • i always do

  • one word:

    SHIT!

  • wow cool

  • damn did someone plug in too many hair dryers at the same time?

  • OH SNAP

  • why the hell were you just standing there that thing could have killed you

  • lol dont be such a damn pussy

  • hehehe :D

  • The insight first mission of protection relaying professionals would be prevent this kind of events
