  • I've noticed that sometimes in older models of HDDs the speaker magnent is unguarded, and thus, can cause the same effect. That's NOT a good thing, as the magnetism can, and will obviously leak into the platinum that most HDD companies use to make the media platters now.

  • That's the permanent magnet from the actuator arm. Shouldn't those be magnetically shielded from the inside out?

  • My alienware m15x does the same thing. Not a big deal.

  • Lol, that's funny. Gotta love HDD magnets!

  • Seems to be "normal" for Seagate Momentus 7200.3 disks.

  • My T61 do not suffer from the same problem but the Seagate HDD's magnetic field does extend beyond the HDD casing.

  • lenonvo's build status is drastically going down

  • To be totally honest, I am responcable for 5000+ IBM/Lenovo systems.I think Lenovo has done a fantastic job since taking over IBMs PC division. In my 25+ years of PC experence, I still think that ThinkPads are the best laptops on the market.

They have a titanium magnesium alloy chassis, magnesium roll cage, polymer drive rails and feet on the bottom made of three different polymers to isolate vibration. They were the first to put accelerometers in their systems to park the HD's.

  • Yes, but it does not change what epic said: lenovo build status is drastically going down. They are still good one's but not as good as before, and getting worse with each model. Loose latches, not stiff mounted keyboard, magnetic field of hard drive next to my testicles, squeaking casing etc.. I'd not recall that in IBM notebooks, they are fact in Lenovo editions.
