I like to research new music because then I get to decide what my tastes are, and not be forced to listen to the same music my friends listen to! Though you're right sometimes it's pretty difficult to avoid picking it up as you go along :)

I do that too. My friends mainly listen to chart stuff only so I don't really pick up too much new from them. I pick most things up from online. (:
