  • When planning a 2nd park, Disneyland could have done a thrill ride park, a Disneyland part 2, or an adult themed park. They would have lost in the thrill ride market race all day long. Instead, they originally went with the adult theme with DCA. But, DCA lacked the heart, characters and magic of Disneyland. Without those, you might as well go somewhere else.

At the end of the day, people would have preferred a Disneyland part 2 instead. Thankfully, the new changes are headed in that direction.

  • @mountainwalrus100 i think what they should of done w/ DCA was make it DCA and have rides and shows that use to be at Disneyland that aren't there anymore. that way the adults can relive their childhoods. Thats just my idea and opinion lol

  • Toy Story ride is way better than Buzz's light year ride.

The only cool ride that got the ax was Maliboomer, but that ride is very common in other theme parks and was not uniquely Disney. People don't visit Disney to ride the same common rides like Maliboomer.

I like more Mickey's and Pixar characters in the park. They bring back the heart that the original DCA lacked.

I am not sure about the new entrance. The jury is still up, but the rides, shows and other changes are for the better my friend

  • I think the best idea of a ride should be when it's hidden by lush vegetation or any earthly structures especially with water . Example: To hear the ride but not beable to see it is very very exciting. This is an example of an early memory of my imagination when I was little and also from some certain rides at Disneyland and other parks.

  • The New Entrance Is Like The One @ Hollywood Studios.

Ive Liked Some Changes And Some Not But Overall Its REALLY Changing Of What It Was Like When I Visited......

Dont Get Rid Of The CA Letters Tho!!

  • @CPpopedd The letters are already gone.

  • Why didn't they just expand Disneyland? Why did they have to build a whole new park, right across from Disneyland no less.

  • wat about the orange stinger? that got replaced with silly symphony swings

  • @Bladerunner55217 actually it's 1.1 billion dollars to make what was THEN a carnival park, into what is NOW a disney park.

    Walt would be happy.

  • @ArtAndSuch that's your opinion . My opinion is based on looking at the rides that Walt envisioned and created. He would not approve of carnival rides. He was about them (themed Lands) Bear country . A bunch of carnival rides is nothing what he was. The Midway Plaisance there included a set of attractions representing various countries from around the world and others representing various periods of man which is where Walt got inspiration. That's why you see frontier,Fantasy, and adventure land~

  • Comment removed

  • @ArtAndSuch Frontier,Fantasy & Adventure Land are far from a cement ground with a carnival ride. Yes Walt is turning in his grave. All though Disney got it right this time by taking out some carnival rides and putting in the THEMED! CARS LAND! Like fantasy frontier ADVENTURE land ,, LAND You see the connection. Yeah no Carnival rides please Disney and thanks for finally listening, have the Los Angeles County fair! We don't need Carnival rides at Disney. Especially for the price of admission!

  • @Bladerunner55217 .... okay.... i think they understand that. That's the whole point of this video, and the whole point of this make-over.

  • @ArtAndSuch yeah it's much much better. You have to understand I still have vivid images of my memories of when I imagined my own ideas of what to add to Disneyland inspired by walking in Disneyland at the age of 11 ! That's why it's hard for anything to impress me. Because i remember my ideas as a child. That's how Walt was so successful. He all ways had the kid in him. Meaning even as an adult he had the imagination and vivid images (ideas) that he had when he was a kid.

  • @Bladerunner55217 Sadly that is what is lacking these days at D.L and DCA with their imagineers.

  • Good bye MaliBOOMer RIP

  • hahaha i love that giant mr potato head. one time we were standing in line and there was a lady with a visor hat on in front of me and mr potato head was all like "excuse me mam but i believe you have lost the top of your hat. if anyone sees the top of this ladys het please let us know." lol

  • i was 1 of the first ppl to get on the toy story ride when it first opend

  • Awww man! The side murals when you walk in are coming down too?! That's where I got my very first picture from California Adventure when I was 9!

  • haha it opened the day after my 3rd birthday

  • New Update: Resort Preview inside Carthay Theater cancelled. Now a restauant will go inside. California letters are still gone and construction has begun on the new park entrance. Ariel's Undersea Adventure opening May 2011. Stained glass is being put in place and one side of the building is complete. Most sets and props are inside the building. Animation Building going to get new changes soon. Playhouse Disney closed. Disney Junior is going to replace it. River Run is loosing "hip" features.

  • does anyone knoe when goofys sky school opens?

  • @sophie8739 May 2011.

  • Some of these changes are superficial, like Goofy's Sky School and renaming is being put-down by some as too much Disney in a park that was attempting differentiation and in a way I agree w/ exception.

When it was built DCA was novel and I loved the lazy walkways and larger lanes and sign-age but let's face it the magic is Disney- especially now the opportunity is to PIXARize the park! Carsland, Ariel's Mermaid ride etc... So, Pixar is a much stronger brand than a sun sculpture. It'll be great.

  • @sincityscott The Little Mermaid isn't Pixar. Niether are Mickey and the gang. Shops on Buena Vista Street are going to be themed to shops owned by 1930s non-Pixar Disney characters. Paradise Pier now has Silly Symphony Swings, Mickey's Fun Wheel, and Goofy's Sky School along with most of the games of the boardwalk. They aren't "PIXARizing" the park. There are more Disney characters than Pixar characters.

  • @Benstudio13 , I think you missed my point! I didn't say that Disney was "Pixarizing" the park....believe me- I know my Pixar from my Disney...I said there was an opportunity to Pixarize DCA!! In other words 'Ben', I believe that doing so would differentiate the Parks and to me because Pixar has such an indelible stamp and such a plethora of source material...wonderful stuff, that it would make sense to me.

Hey, maybe I'm the only one who feels this way and that's OK too:~))

  • I love how their idea of theming is slap a disney character's face on it...

  • California Adventure was supposed to be themed of the highlights of CA, not Disney stuff. I;m okay with Toy Story Mania, but Mickey's Fun Wheel is to far.

  • @MidnightTrainStudios That was the problem. It was themed more to California more than Disney, and yet it was a Disney park. You could see the real versions of what DCA 1.0 replicated a few minutes away and hardly find any Disney characters. Unlike Disneyland across the way DCA 1.0 took you to lands themed to the current California. Now with the expansion they are retheming the lands to take you to 1920s-30s California with Disney characters. Kinda like what Disneyland does across the way.

  • @TheHudson464 For now, but in Phase 2 "Soarin' Over The World" could possibly be greenlighted, funded, and built replacing Soarin' Over California. It's not officially part of the plans yet but it's an idea the Imagineers are holding for Phase 2.

  • New Update: Entrance Tiles, CALIFORNIA letters, sun cap removed. Construction has begun on Buena Vista Street (renamed Walt Disney Plaza). Walt Disney Story cancelled but Carthay Theater will be built with a Resort Preview Center. Goofy's Sky School under construction along with near by restaurants. MaliBoomer removed and will become a park-like area. Playhouse Disney is closed to become Disney Junior. Muppets will get big changes as a relaunching of series. Red Car Trolley track finished.

  • I was there when they drained the lagoon, it was quite the sight.

The toy story ride was pretty good. The 3D works and you get a good variety of games to play. All the games involve shooting some sort of projectile from the cannon in front of your seat. You get some good tactile feedback whenever you shoot, which will be often. The ride not only tracks your score but your accuracy as well.

You know, the ride isn't even that new anymore, I don't know why I'm going in to such detail...

  • I DO NOT LIKE THE CHANGES THEY ARE MAKING TO THE ENTRANCE!!!!!! Those are some of my favorite parts!!!!

  • It was recently mentioned on the DisneyParks blog that the California letters will start to be removed on 1/4/11 and they plan to save them for "possible future use."

  • the dude sounds like he hates his job XD

  • YES ILL be in America this 2011 WOO

  • I love everything they have done so far but im still upset. They have gotten rid of alot of the bad parts of DCA but they also have been getting rid of all the things that people liked about the park.

  • @nubr1dude

    Like what?

I'm not trying to be nasty, I would just like to know what you mean. :-)

  • @DisMupPix010 Like the CALIFORNIA letters in front of the park, and doing a loop with mickeys ears.

  • @nubr1dude

Yes, the California letters were nice, but I think the issue is that they (along with the rest of the entrance) were a little too contemporary.

Every other Disney theme park to date has an entrance that transports its guests to a different time and place, and the current entrance at DCA doesn't do that.

I know that its sad that the letters will be removed, but I think that the new entrance will be just as good. :-)

And at least there is a new Mickey face on the Ferries Wheel.

  • @nubr1dude i hated the CALIFORNIA sighs at christmas time i got my knee stuck in the mickey mouse thing

  • @FelixFelisis

What does the animation medium have to do with anything? Just because a film is hand-drawn doesn't automatically make it a good film. A film's STORY is the most important thing. :)

Hand-drawn animation is still around, Disney released a hand-drawn film last year, and they'll release another hand-drawn film next year.

They are building Cars Land because the town in the movie was on Route 66, so it fits for California.

  • I'm booking a surprise for my family I did my research at bestvaluethemeparks (.) com

  • They are currently removing the tile mural in sections, and are slowly dismantling the Sun icon.

  • I wish they hadn't taken down the Malaboomer!! :-( I miss it!

  • @MsDisneyObsessed It was a cheap off the shelf carnival ride definatley not Disney quality. It wouldn't fit the new Victorian theme of Paradise Pier. Plus it risked being to similar to Tower of Terror. I'm glad it's gone.

  • I like all the new stuff that DCA is getting. The only downside though is that Paradise Pier in its new Victorian form will have much less to do with the park's overall theme of California than its predecessor. Either way though, I have no doubt that DCA will see an improvement in attendance over the next few years, especially with the opening of Carsland. I plan to make a visit to DLR again in late 2012 or early 2013 so I can see all the new stuff all at once.

  • -.- California Adventure was never that great anyway. The only good ride there is Tower of Terror

  • boooo don't tack it out

  • I think Mulholland Madness should be based from A Goofy Movie rather than Goody's Gliders(Goofy's Sky School) cause Goofy Movie, Goofy and Max drive to Los Angeles(california) maybe it should become called 'Goofy's Road Trip' something like that

    It matches the theme

but w/e i dont think anyone cares but it would be better

  • Besides Toy Story Mania, I disagree with the brand new Disney reinvention of Ca. Adventure. Im especially upset their destroying the replica Golden Gate Bridge. But, its just me being biased towards California and the Golden Gate Bridge cuz im from the bay area.

  • When is was on maliboomer yesterday, I could see part of the construction of Cars land. All that is done is the entrance, Sand, And construction of radiatorsprings racers.

  • Maliboomer is leaving in the fall. Mulholland Madness is going down for Goofy's Sky School in the fall as well.

  • I don't want them to get rid of the CA letters though. Those are classic!

  • @ILuvK9s they already did :(

  • It's been two years. Are they still going to change all this?

  • Yes, though some of this info is now a bit outdated.

For official information, visit BlueSkybuzz . com

  • Wheere is this disneyland? is it the florida one?(:

  • @xEmmaKeoghx

This is from the Disneyland Resort in California. :-)

  • @xEmmaKeoghx It's the California one in Anaheim

  • @xEmmaKeoghx no Disneyland is in California(the original disney) , Walt Disney world is in Florida :)

  • @GreenApplesAlli Aneheim is in california Disney is located in Aneheim

  • Everyone, there is no need to be upset. So far, all of the changes have made the park better. The park is still going to be about California.

Cars Land is supposed to represent Route 66, And any changes to existing lands are just making them more detailed.

By the way, notice that this video was uploaded in 2008, some of the info is out-dated.

For the more up to date information about the changes; go to the "Blue Sky Cellar" they next time you visit DCA. Or go to Blueskybuzz . com

  • @DisMupPix010 Yeh, and they've changed the name to DISNEY California Adventure (differs from the old Disney's California Adventure). Meaning the Californian Adventure you'll have DISNEY STYLE, they changed it to make more sense since they have 2 disney themed lands and alot of disney themed rides. I don't know why everyone's so worked up on this... they're professionals, they know what they're doing. lol

  • @TheHudson464

Don't worry it is NOT getting removed. Its one of the most popular ride in the park.

  • Comment removed

  • @saaaam6681 damn right

  • @HaroldsMountain

The park is still about California, they are just focusing on the Disney interpretation of it. That is the current plan.

For example, Cars Land is supposed to represent Route 66.

As you may have heard, they recently gave the park a slight name change.

The park is now called Disney California Adventure.

    (Instead of "Disney's")

  • @saaaam6681 You don't understand. It's DISNEY California Adventure. There was hardly any Disney in the original park. The original DCA was filled with tacky carnival rides and horrible puns referring to California. This new expansion will bring lots of good rides and make the park more like a Disney Park - how it should be.The original DCA was broken, A LOT!DCA 1.0 didn't feel like it payed tribute to California-it felt like it made fun of it. It was definatley not the quality Disney is known for.

  • Carsland will be so awesome and with addition the Cars 2 will be coming soon =D

  • most of these things he announced are taking change. such as the recent opening of world of color. now with world of color done. they can now focus on carsland.

  • Comment removed

  • an entire land based off Cars?! really!? they should rebuild the nature's wonderland attraction thing instead.

  • well tower of terror, california screamin, muppet vision, grizzly river run, soarin over california, mullholand madness, toy story, are staying there taking away aladin, brother bear trails! there making the little mermaid the ride and a cars land!! but im dissapointred there remodeling it like mgm!! i liked the cali theme! the beaches, golden gate bridge and the old entrance was better!! why are they remodeling it!!! at least expand it!!!! whats next disneyland!!!!! not cool and fair!!! im dissapointed

  • nooooooooo they are just taking away so many memories of my childhood! i luv'd eveything about C.A. and now its just gonna be ruined =(

  • I could see a large plot of land by California Adventure with a huge crane in it from my room in the Hilton.

  • so when excatly are they supposed to do this whole new entryway? I was just there a few days ago, and I didnt see anything new yet. I kinda like how it is now better.

  • And what about the already beautiful entrance!? AT LEAST KEEP THAT! I love all the colors, the giant letters, the golden gate bridge, and of course being greeted with the Beach Boys! I love that feeling and I really dont wanna lose that! The new entrance looks incredibly boring and bland. I am highl dissappointed in disney. If only Walt were still alive =/

  • I really don't want them to remodel this already beautiful park. It was suppposed to show walts love of california, and now its hollywood adventure?! Its just like freakin universal studios and hollywood studios! WE DONT NEED ANYMORE HOLLYWOOD! Im completely ok with the pixar stuff being put in, but dont take away beautiful california theming! At least dont take away the area with soarin and grizzly river run and brother bear forest trail! =[

  • And what about the aladdin play, which is one of the best plays ive ever seen?!

  • ok ok, I really loved the old california adventure, but im excited for the water show (which looks as good as fantasmic) and the little mermaid ride and cars land. But, DOES ANYONE KNOW IF MUPPETVISION 3D WILL GET TAKEN AWAY?! I LOVE that show and think it is the best 3d show in the world! Also, what about grizzly river run, soarin over califorinia, or brother bear forest trail challenge? And what about california screamin? THEY CANNOT TAKE THESE AMAZING CREATIONS AWAY!

  • way to fail dca. the new entrance design looks exactly like hollywood studios. and the new boardwalk? well gee...exactly like the boardwalk and grand floridian hotels. the goofy ride? how about a smash up between primeval whirl, test track, and barnstormer. im sorry, but this new design is more pathetic than the original park itself. i think id be more satisfied if they ripped it down and filled it with pixar. maybe by doing that theyd keep pixar crap out of wdw. :]

  • expansion? :O Now I am going to like it, I never went there because I thought it was stupid lol, I don't know how they keep the park open and build at the same time lol and no one goes there except little children... the disney in florida is better

  • i'm going there in two days! i'm soo excited :D

  • cars land = lame land

  • Here's a thought...Why doen't Disney just re-design the autopia as a Pixar ride featuring cars, and make room for something more elaborate like...Geez, I don't know...MARVEL UNIVERSE!!!

  • Oh wow, hopefully those hollywood changes will make it that much better in 2011. =]

  • Man i like the way the park is now. what they are going to do to it just seems boring. seems like they just wanna add more stores :/ damn i wish Walt was still alive x/

  • i dnt like thm taking out the entrance stuff and changing everything 2 the days when disney was alive or whatevr everything else is fine itll take me maybe a year 2 get used 2 some of the new changes but they're fine the only thing tht will RLY b hard 2 get used 2 is again the entrance tht will b new and thm taking out the beautiful artwork and the san fran bridge

  • omg dey took of dee swings of dee orange n evrytime i wld go wen i waz lil i cldnt go on it i waz 2 short so i cldnt ut den wen i waz much biggr i went on may2010 n wen i waz lookin 4 dat ride 2 go on i cldnt cuz dey took it off so i waz sad n my dream dnt kom true

  • @JOJOnMARY1 LEARN ENGLISH no offence

  • omg i fukin lov california adventures n i went on may 2010 n it waz fun!!! i fukin lov da tower of terror it waz kool its da best ride in da whole entire disney california!!!!

  • Wait shouldn't the huge fountain show be finished by now?

  • @blazer640036 it opens june 11 ;)

  • i don't really like this whole idea of the new DCA. they should've just built it like this 9 years ago.

  • @jarredgamarra28

Well, better late than never. :-)

  • oh i think there planing for disney california 10th year anniversary

  • yeah more omni-movers

  • it looks like they havent changed the entrance yet. but when they do im going back because it looks like rapture from bioshock!!! i love disney!

  • lol i was there for spring break and i herd that they were going to make most of these updates

  • ugh

im gonna miss old california Adventure

    though Dx

  • I heard its a really small park and if you have been to Disney World it is not worth checking out. Is this true?

  • No, It's really fun. :) You should really consider going.

  • im going for spring break,im stooooked!!!!!

  • in my opinion the only 2 rides worth riding on paradise pier are california screamin and toy story mania.... they need to get rid of that ferris wheel from hell, and those stupid rides and get a few kick ass attractions to take their place.

  • I can see adding a lot of new things to the park but they're changing it to be a whole different park, I really don't like it...I've had so many great memories at california adventure and I'm actually going to be quite sad they're going to change it all! They're pretty much just slapping disney characters on different attractions, which is all good and fine but they shouldn't overdo it and disney is doning that exactly.

  • I got to go to the opening. it wasnt on purpose. we actually found out about it when we going to disneyland.

  • i love everything, except that they will take out the CA letters!

  • Damn!!! I liked the maliboomer.

  • Me too, we should just tell them that the Maliboomer will stay, it's very awesome.

  • god i hope they make it like epcot too fuck

  • What makes you an expert in judging and you have lots of facts that is wrong... the california sign is still there as of jan 30, 2010 last time i went. and the crowds has always been their. so stop your lying.

  • He means the letters 'will' be gone, not that they are gone now.

  • Umm... this is all stuff that will be changed or created in the near future. Guessing you did not pay attention. LOL! The only newer thing that I know of as of today that is there already and open is Toy Story Mania and that whole updated area of Paradise Peir. The CA sign is coming down they say, probably later this year. And they have yet to start with the Old Hollywood theme renovations. Radiator Springs, Little Mermaid and the other new attractions are being built right now.

  • i am actually glad that they are changing california adventure. its a fun park but it lacks quality. it gets boring after an hour being in there so maybe this way more people will go to this park.

  • Where did you get this great old music?

  • Comment removed

  • Im sad that they will take down the maliboomer but im happy about the rest

  • im kinda excited! :D

  • EXCIIIIIIIITINNNNNNGGG.

  • i kinda hate to see the San Francisco Bridge replica be taken out of the entrance and the big CALIFORNIA letters :(

  • the new entrance looks boring in the pics

  • I like the entrance the way it is, but I do agree on the fact that it needs more rides. I also cant wait for the water show and the Little Mermaid ride.

  • Well im glad there remaking that entrance plaza,it did seem a bit chaotic.

  • Aw man, World of Color won't be open in Feb, won't it? Damn, that's when I'm going. :(

  • Lack of E-ticket rides, theming, and childrens attractions my eye! :^P

  • i was there yesterday and you can totally see that they are really putting a lot of effort to this, the lagoon is already drained and parts of the disney's world of color are already in place

the giant orange is gone, but the maliboomer is not so i dont think theyre taking it down..

the little mermaid stuff is still due to open on 2011 and they are already installing the red street cars

and i got to ride the toy story mania and it was awesome

    it's gonna be huge :D

  • @31iidna The Red Car trams sound quite interesting!

  • OMG how exciting! i love all the new ideas!

  • The Lagoon Is Already Drained...All you can see is wood metal...and pieces of statues :D

    its gonna be awesome

  • when will it be refilled?

  • Its Not I dont think...its for the Little Mermaid Thingy

  • when does the construction finish??

  • Spring 2012

  • Thank you!! :-)

  • 2010

  • Every thing will be finished in 2012

  • @Ryan120420 Ooooh, so remaking California Adventure will cause the end of the world? That makes sense, a bunch of nerds who love it the way it is will probably some out and release some gas they invented to end the world.

  • What the hell are you talking about.

  • People are always talking about how the world will end in 2012. How did you not know that tons of people are thinking this? honestly, I thought about everyone in the world knew about that stupid rumor.

  • not as much as in the year 2000

  • Comment removed

  • thank god tower of terror and california screamin are staying

  • AH WTF!!! NO MALABOOMER!!!!

  • Actually, I herd that they can't replace or remove the maliboomer without removing parts of screamin' they would just retheme it

  • @munmik67 apparently not, because they are dismantling the maliboomer as we speak =0p

  • Cool! I can't wait, especially for the mermaid ride and the water show! Thanks for posting. :O)

  • The new entrance is gonna be EXACTLY like the one at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida.

  • The Fantasyland expansion in Disney World, to me, is a freakin joke. All it is is giving the princesses their own themed areas. DCA expansion is getting new rides, a water show, and getting a whole new land.

  • This Is Getting Me Kinda Mad I Have Only Been to DCA Once I love the Entrance and the Golden Gate Brige and also the post card entrance it is what i remember when i have kids i dont want to say that DCA looked like How it will be but how it looks now i will miss everything that there changing:(

  • I think all of their plans are cool except for the main entrance thats gonna suck! I like the one thats there now. Man i gotta buy me a season pass

  • They have California Screamin' it has a loop and it has a launch

  • wow after reading a number of the comments lots are dispointed. Why is that? DCA is a ok for a theme park but for a DISNEY park it sucks!

  • This is so disheartening to me. I have always LOVED California Adventure and the fact that it offered a respite of sorts from all the children overrunning Disneyland. The postcard-themed entrance, the Golden Gate bridge replica, the Sun Sculpture, The Malibu-mer...all gone, all some of my favorite parts of the park. And for what, a block that looks like a clean East LA? Thanks, Walt, thanks for that.

  • no way! there getting rid of the maliboomer and there building a cars land!

  • I'm really looking forward to the new, revamped park!!!

The old one was okay, but that was all; o-k-a-y. California Adventure, like anything Disney, should be e-x-t-r-a-o-r-d-i-n-a-r-y!

  • Hey thats why the lake thing was drained the last time it was there!!

I am SOOO excited for this!!

  • It's very interesting to see the mixed comments on this. I had the feeling that a lot of people were not fans of CA Adventure and was surprised to find out that that is not the case!

Personally, I am looking forward to the revamp for this park. I really hope it gets a more immersive feel like the original Disneyland Park.

  • i loved california adventure when i went there in early '07. why the hell are they redoing it?! they're keeping the tower of terror right?

  • yes!

  • jees after this is done it wont even compare to disneyland park!

  • NOOOO I just went in setember if they get rid of the already awesome california adenture then I will sue them!!!
