The last time we had the Summer Olympics, there was a massive security disaster. The last time we had the Winter Olympics, there was a major bribery scandal. South America and Africa have never had an Olympics. That's why we didn't win. I live in Chicago and I consider myself a liberal and I was happy that we didn't get the olympics.
It would mean not only higher local taxes for everyone in the city but the displacement of many poor people and higher rent for everyone who wasn't displaced.
I'm sorry but I don't think anyone should pay more taxes or more rent or be forced to move because some jack-offs happen to want to watch some younger corporately sponsored jack-offs throw javelins or heavy metal balls around on a field.

It is a policy issue. Every city for 30 years has spent money on the olympics. Calgary spent 1 billion, Greece spent 2 billion, China spent more than 10 billion. We don't have the money to pay for this crap. We as a nation are broke. This would just be yet another big expenditure. And Obama will tax us to pay for it. The loss of hosting the olympics had everything to do with America losing out and virtually nothing to do with Obama. They celebrated America losing, the missing out of tens of thousands or more of jobs that are very much needed. Instead of lamenting that they joyously celebrate it.
