  • So good! Bruce Gary is amazing

  • The Beatles were back!

  • o vocalista dessa banda parece o guitarrista da banda the who mais novo!

  • the knack kicked ass with this rocker!!!!!!

  • I'm the Girl in Baby Talks Dirty and on the Cover, Doug was the love of My life and best friend - Sharona was the love of My life and My Best friend. I pray that one is watching over me and that one is praying for me as I am her. Kisses My Babies - We three~

  • @Abbebeck doug was amazing...I miss him. Baby talk dirty is awesome track...good for you

  • The power pop (with just a hint of punk) version of the Beatles.

  • WOW .. MIAMI!!! :)

  • wish i was at this show i was only a mile away

  • This is not a negative comment, I love both bands, had this on a 45, but just listened to it now after a long time, and this song could also be a Cheap Trick song, has the same vibe for R Zander to sing R Neilson to play and B E Carlos to drum to.

  • I hope Masketta Fall cover this one

  • r.i.p dougie i miss you

  • I remember I had the "My Sharona" 45 and this song was on the B-side...memories!

  • @evancortez2 I still have my "My Sharona" 45.

  • great video

  • Great video ! My sister gave me the first album for my 17th birthday in 1979 ,because I liked " My Sharona" I became an instant fan and played that album hundreds of times and bought all of their releases since . I got to see them several times, the last at Foxwoods a couple of years ago., and they still sounded great . I lost my mom the same day Doug passed away, I'll never forget either- R.I. P.

  • I've always considered The Knack to be one of the first bands of the "new wave" movement.

  • is there a DVD of this whole show? I would love to get it.

    underrated band!

  • This was the flip of My Sharona. A damn good b side i must say

  • This is and was one of my favorite groups listening to it growing up I felt like a kind of rebel. the music moves me. Thanks for posting this. Great video. timothy

  • Doug's AWESOME!!! \,,/(^0^)\,,/

  • RIP Doug and Bruce. Awesome band

  • God bring him back for me just for one more moment.

  • Cross between John Lennon and Pete Townshend!

  • ..it's like kinda 'The Who' in early years....great!!...

  • A fun group, and a great memory.

  • RIP DOUG

  • From the opening, it looks like this was shot at Gusman in Miami.

  • I didnt know Doug died??!! When was this?

  • @ericdapugi

2-14-2010 Valentines day. Most appropriate date. Way too early. Like someone said on another song this band got me through my youth. RIP Doug.

  • R.I.P. Doug...

  • DEMONOID REGISTRATION IS OPEN

    hurry guys

  • amazing what 2 guitars a bass and drums can do huh !!!?!?!?!?! What the hell is over dubbing ?!??!?! LOLOLOLOLOL

  • Exactly ! This was stripped down, pure, no B.S. ~ Music nowadays ( well, the shit on the radio anyway ) is over produced, mindless garbage.

Holds up well after 30 years, I don't think anyone will remember Lady Gaga in 2040.

  • os merecéis un cien

  • DEP Doug. gracias por la energía de vuestra música

  • Yeah, that was a cool era for music. These guys and Cheap Trick were played continuously on my stereo. Thanks for the music Doug.

  • Cheap Trick was always one of my favorites. I was not into the Knack too much, but listening to them lately I really admire their energy and musicianship. They have a number of good songs too (beyond the one big hit, which, in my opinion is not their best song - - I prefer "Good Girls Don't").

  • God Bless You Doug and Thank You...

  • Yeah!!!!!!!

  • RIP Doug. Rock Legend

  • The Knack, The Police, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Nick Lowe, Blondie, et al sounded like a breath of fresh air to me in '79 and opened my ears to a whole new world of music!

RIP Doug Fieger ... and thank you!

  • Well said...and I'd add The Pretenders to that list too.

    RIP Doug (and Bruce).

  • Don't forget Elvis Costello.

  • A great band. They are very tight.

  • This is the one and only band I took my mom to see the show, ever. I was a very young teenager and she was in her mid-30s. (Hmmmm, maybe it was SHE who took ME to the concert.) The venue was Budohkan in Tokyo.

    Oh, the memories...

R.I.P. Doug. Thanks for coming all the way to Japan to play!! You guys made a huge mark in the music scene in the Far East as well...

  • RIP DOUG!!!!!!!

  • Very sad for the loss.

  • why can't we see the video "your number or your name"?

  • RIP Doug Fieger

  • RIP Doug Fieger. Genius. Tight and right

  • Doug Fieger passed away today, lead singer of The Knack...

  • yep. they guys were fuckin great.

  • This sounds like it's not a recording of the Performance but a recording of what was coming through the house sound board. I bet it sounded WAY BETTER Live.

Sometimes I hate my trained ear....LOL

  • Totalmente de acuerdo con zoltar 5282.

  • Sharona was too big of a song for this band. "Get the Knack" is one of the best records in the last 20 years. Power-pop never really got the recognition it deserved.

  • I agree that power pop got too litle recognition. Long live The Knack, and Raspberries!

  • Can you believe this is over 30 years old?

  • That record is older than I am. I've been listening to power pop forever. When I was in high school all my friends were listening to bands like Rage against the machine and Pearl Jam (yuck). I was listening to the Knack, the Smithereens, the Beat, Green, the Buzzcocks, the Jam....the list goes on and on.

  • I was fortunate enough to be a teenager in the late 70's and early 80's when the power pop wave that produced The Records, Knack, 20|20, Shoes, Plimsouls, etc was hitting the record stores and I bought everything I could get my hands on. Not to be a Pearl Jam hater, but I don't think I could sit through an entire album of theirs from that era and not get bored. Power Pop stands the test of time. I play Big Star today as much as I did back in the early 80's when I discovered them. Rock on.....

  • Agreed. Pearl Jam never did it for me. I listen to Big Star and the first Shoes record all the time. Great stuff. Time for a power-pop revival. Later.

  • You got great taste my friend. And i TOTALLY agree with you about Pearl Jam. They are so sludgy and one note. No great choruses and overwrought musicianship with no backbeat( just bashing). The songs from Get the Knack are timeless. Just straightforward, no effects and brilliant songwriting and playing.

  • RubHerSoul1 - "The songs from Get the Knack are timeless. Just straightforward, no effects and brilliant songwriting and playing." -- Couldn't agree more. Thank you! 7:10 am Feb. 15 2010

  • @zoltar5282 You got good taste in music.

  • @zoltar5282

what do u mean yuck? rage and pj are good bands. i like the knack and the smithereens as well but i LOVE rage. pearl jam is another story. they have some good songs but overall im not a huge fan of them. but just cause u like the smithereens doesnt mean u cant like rage...

  • @theseer27 Rage is ok. I don't like PJ. The yuck was meant or PJ. I was just saying that they were only listening to that stuff. What I should have said is Red Hot Chili Peppers and PJ (yuck!). I almost puked when I saw eddie vedder with a mohawk and leather jacket inducting the Ramones into the hall of fame.

  • @zoltar5282 Ya got great taste kiddo. I'd be proud to have you as my offspring.

  • the last 30 years, you mean. Hard to believe but that lp is 31 years old now. Still blows away every debut lp from ANY band since. Even Nevermind takes a backseat to the Knack's debut. The backseat of a long bus that is.

  • Come on... Van Halen I?!

    From roughly the same year...

That was like jet fuel to the Knack's diesel.

  • Hey, I love VH! But they were Hard Rock. The Knack was power pop. Not quite in the same category. Besides, VH's 1st lp was 1978. I said the last 30 years. So they don't count. LOL!

  • By Van Halen, you mean the Roth era, i hope. Cuz the Sammy years sucked! I honestly think they should have hired a chick to front them. Not Courtney Love though. UGH!

  • try to sit still while listening to this song!

  • You'll get your legs shaking, at least. HAHA!

  • And, getting back to the music...

To all of you commenting on Bruce Gary's drumming, thanks. Not being a drummer I don't usually pick up on that part until someone else points it out. Being able to see the drummer at work really helps me appreciate it also, as with this video. Same with Niles' bass.

The Knack may have been a one-album wonder, but what an album!

  • not really..all their albums were great

  • I can listen to that lp a million times and never get sick of it. In fact I have over the last 30 years. Even Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols is a huge fan of Get the Knack.

  • what's religion to do with this video People go find a religious forum to do that. deweypug you have the right idea:-)

  • To "New" Knack fans... go buy the first album... do not buy a greatest hits package, they cut off the guitar solo on my sharona. Plus on the album right after this song they break into a classic pop gem " Number or your name".

  • OH yes! PLEASE! They roll right in to Number Or Your Name which is one of my all time favorites. Get the original or don't get it all!

  • i agree....the knack rocked...i think they got screwed by there manager or somethin.........i never had the albums.....but there tunes were upbeat on the radio....and never sounded drug influenced....was the big difference with the knack........i wish they could have made it back in the day when the energy was still there......i think they were magical as a band......

  • Great album. I thought I heard them in an interview saying that their management screwed them and ruined their careers just after that great start with this debut. It's too bad but this was still a stacked album. Still remember that scene in Middle Age Crazy with "Good Girls Don't". Crack up.

  • this is great.

  • By others I mean cassettes etc. If someone wants copies I can make them just as easily as they can. I will not risk never seeing my music again. I'm the same way with my books.

  • HHey DAVE thanks again,,,for not locking the doors to YOUR house where 200 of my supreme albums were I thought saftly stored !!!! As'HL' !!!!!!!!!;{

  • I feel for you. I learned a valuable lesson when I was only 12. I had an awsome record collection. I listened to cool stuff for instance, Master of reality, Aqualung etc. I'm 44 now. I loaned my albums to a FRIEND and he said he returned them by leaving the box in the screen door. Guess what, no box and I never saw them again. I'm quite sure he kept them. He was supposed to record what he liked and return them to me. I'll never loan my vinyl or others again.

  • Six Sealtest container's of Vinyl here too. Some part of the first wave called NEW WAVE on red vinyl. ie) politically incorrect "Battered Wives",,Cheech and Chong "Reds or OD-40 as I remember it" featuring the , Bed pan relay race and ,Sleeping Beauty and the Prick.

  • what happened to the drummer ?

    I heard hes dead ???

    This whole albums great !

Great for road trips ! Classic !

  • Died a few years back of cancer. Leukemia if I remember correctly

  • I haven't heard this in decades. Can't find my vinyl. Took me years to realize every song on this album (I think) is about fetching 'tang.

  • what a fucking great song

  • When I was twelve, all I wanted was Bruce Gary's drumset. Oh yeah, and to be able to play like him.

  • Niles is fucking layin' it down on that bass!

  • @edgarallanpoet I'm glad someone else caught that, too. He has great feel and skill, but he's disciplined. He gives the song what it needs. No overkill. Just perfect!

  • like the baatles of "punk"/hard rock...i love this album.takes me back to being 9 years old and hanging out with my 14 year old brother and his friends.

  • MEMORIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah, Bruce is underrated drummer. I especially like that cowbell in "Siamese Twins". The Knack sound wouldn't be so powerful without him.

  • i love all the fills in your number or your name

  • fucking fall out boy, panic ant the disco? hahaha

  • anycolouryouwant dude i like the music geez plus im only 10 soo ya dont swear

  • god i hate americans

  • im asian

  • so go get hit by a bus a die fuckhead

  • You all hate americans but you eat, sleep, and shower with our culture, our food, and our way of life! Should I go into detail about how much half the world loves our fast food, our junk food?

  • Who ARE you? You must be a miserable person. But I'll keep you in my prayers. God bless!

  • A "God" doesn´t exist.. This is superstition. Wake up!

  • Sweetie, you can't prove that either way. But I'll still keep people like you in my prayers. You sound like an angry, miserable person. Bless your heart.

  • You cannot pray. There is no God, or Allah. Thats all nonsense. Trust me!

  • You don't know that for a fact. And I can pray all I want. It doesn't hurt you, so why would you care?

  • You don't know God exists either, that could neither be proved nor disproved. Remember, the bible was written by us crazy humans. Woody Allen once said that, "if Jesus came back today and saw what was going on in his name, he would never stop throwing up". No truer words ever spoken.

  • I agree. I think He would be very sad. I totally get that many people don't believe. You can't make someone believe. And I don't try. But the way I figure it, if we all just lived like Jesus said to in the Bible, the world would be a better place. And I like to think that people are doing the best they can. And I'm sure that includes you.

Its just when people tell me I "can't pray." Well, of course I can! You can laugh at me or make fun of me, but I don't see how I'm hurting anyone.

  • Sure, agreed. As far as praying is concerned, I can sum that up by saying that religion is a lot like masturbation, it is best kept to yourself. Cheers.

  • That's funny! I've never heard it put quite that way. It kind of depends on the company you keep, though. It hit me recently that I am among the most unpopular, uncool people I know: Republican, employed, Catholic, white...What a dork! But I swear if you met me, you'd probably never know. We might even be friends. You have a great sense of humor. Toodles and God Bless. (Don't worry. If He isn't there, no harm done. But if He is, I've gotcha covered! : )

  • yea this was a major influence in killing disco thankgod so your right on with that comment lol mdelair420

  • @mdelair420 Rolling Stone pronounced "Get the Knack" as the album that killed disco. I am grateful that it did and that they were right.

  • Go ahead, girl!!

  • ok???????????????

  • This video is amazing, their first three albums are classics.

Now...how much cooler would this video be is they were smoking cigarettes while playing...

  • I remember the first time I heard 2 songs on "Get The Knack" that totally floored me! Never had a song that mesmerized me so much that I played it over and over as I did "Oh Tara" and "Thats What The Little Girls Do"

I wore a groove into both songs on my record lol

  • "get the knack" -not a bad song on the whole album. reminds me of the cars first record.

  • AMAZING PLAYING, COMPOSING, GREAT SOLOS! 5/5 stars!

  • Everybody loves to rag on The Knack - those people usually aren't even familiar with more than one or two of their songs and they mouth off about how they think the group sucks. Sorry, but they KICKED ASS - great songs, musicianship and energy. Plus the powerful and inventive drumming of Bruce Gary, RIP. Haven't heard a band this good IN YEARS. The music industry is basically DEAD. So sad, but I guess nothing great ever lasts.

  • Bruce Gary...one of the most underrated drummers...

  • One of the few quintessential original rock bands of all time! A little bit of Buddy Holly, little bit of Beatles and some early LA rock scene flair - mix it up with some East coast attitude - you get The Knack! Rock on.

  • MAN, i RARELY heard a live version of a straight rock sing of thsi caliber so close the studio version.. even the drums are almost identical..not to mention the guitar solo..respect.thanks for posting! Is this from the KNACK-DVD?

  • Yea, you usually never hear a drummer play the studio cut. That's why I hate when people say drummers like Keith Moon are so great. All he did was beat around the kit and play the song differently live everytime. Bruce Gary actually played the studio versions. Not to mention he is just a better drummer from the inivative driving tom rock sound from My Sharona to his use of rudiments in playing.

  • what about rat scabies or clem burke?

  • Bruce Gary is the most under rated drummer of all time.

He played with unrivaled fury but always fit the song.

  • Thanks for your reply and you are right about Gary a good drummer but i disagree about Moon: you just can´t compare them. Two different styles.Moon invented drums new not playing beats but noise-melody instrument."Our timeclock is the bass" Townsend said.Check out the "Who´s next"-DVD how he interacts with Daltreys vocals.Moon was unique. I´m pretty sure Bruce Gary would second that, may he rest in peace.

  • Man, they really cranked up Niles amp.

  • Kick out da YMCA wimps Knack!!! :)

  • AWESOME

  • Hey Gusman is here in MIAMI....how did I miss them playing here??
