With a skydiver's education before trying basejumping, such stupid but happily not tragic incident would not occur. Basejumping is NOT a recreative sport, but an extreme one meant for experts only. You don't put a student with a kayak in a wild river at 1st. You would start on a quite lake. Pure logic!...
The guy who PCA'd him did a lousy job. He stowed the excess bridle in his right hand and then throws it as the jumper exits. It appears that the pilot chute did pretty much all of the extraction which allowed more time for this inexperienced jumper to go head-low on exit. This completely negates the point of doing a PCA. He also should stand as directly behind the jumper as the exit point allows. This gives the best chance of a symetrical extraction/deployment.
The guy who PCA'd him did a lousy job. He stowed the excess of the bridle in his right hand and then threw it rather than extracting the pins and the canopy. Where possible try and stand directly behind the jumper so that the pack job is extracted symetrically. That guy seriously needs to learn how to do that properly........
well in all fairness they did it as a static line jump into water which is actually quite safe if the people in charge know what their doing which hopefully they did :) .

Has he ever flown a canopy before? That was hilarious.
Slider84 4 years ago
Yup, but not in a long time and that was a small canopy so we sent him to the water.

Ah man, i wish you never told me the water was deliberate, now its less funny. What height is that bridge anyway? 270ft or something?
