I flew on the same route & same plane in December 2009, but approached from the east ( landed on Rwy 26L - the reef runway ). I think when flying to HNL, it does not matter from which direction the plane approaches the airport, the starboard side window seats offer better views.
@MegaPlanelover thanks for the reply and yeah it will take about 19 hours all together but ive been to australia and that took 24 hours so i might be able to live haha
@rayswin17 the airline does want all electronic devices off during takeoff and landing, but so many people do it (and there are no adverse effects of doing so) so they probably don't really care too much. Plus if anything happens to the plane during landing (God forbid) it will all be caught on tape. Just search on here "airplane landing" and you'll get so many videos of this type.
@BranmasterG Well navigation and communication devices in the cockpit rely on radio waves to communicate. This is why devices like cell phones and laptops (with their wireless communication abilities) could interfere with those systems in the cockpit. However, a camera's just a camera, nothing more, and I really don't think saving data to a memory card will do anything. And since the flight didn't crash and I'm still alive here typing to you, I think we'll assume it's safe. =)
@DV5230US Theoretically any electronic device, be it big or small, creates a magnetic field that can interfer with the radio waves. Thats just a fact but realistically is it going to cause interference? probably not.
@rayswin17 no its not but the reason they ask for you to turn electronics off is because the signals between the cockpit instruments and the devices can interfere with one another and give incorrect readings in the cockpit wich can be dangerous.
@rayswin17 Just wanted to say that while using a camera may not necessarily interfere with flight instruments, some airlines have rules against any type of electronic equipment (for whatever reason). I sneak out my camera from time to time, but sometimes they tell me to put it away, and of course, I do. The last thing I'd want is a confrontation with the cabin crew because if that escalates, I could be arrested, as it's a federal crime to interfere with their operations.
I want to go back to hawaii,this time,I will be staying longer instead of 5 days,It has been 40 years ago,since we left our home in Ewa beach,My Father retired from the navy and we went home to Florida.We arrived at honolulu by ocean liner S.S.Lurline in 1967 to 1970.I was the lucky one and went back in May 2010,I surely didn't want to go back home.40 years is too long.I will try to make it back in 2011.Mahalo Go Gators Go Rainbow warriors
I flew in a Alaska air 737-800 from seattle to Honolulu and that was pretty good flight well for me my parents were freezing cause the AC was on real high where I had the window with the sun shining on me so I was warm.
@Flyboy4500 Good question. I have no idea what they were thinking, but apparently they thought we could stop with no problems. Looks like they were right, but I have to admit I wasn't 100% comfortable when i realized this as we landed. =/
If you're departing Salt Lake City, my best guess is YES. Delta has four 767-300s that they use exclusively for the SLC-HNL route. I've been on two of them [N143DA & N144DA], and both have the personal TVs.
i wanna go back there...

@DV5230US Is it possible that the camera could somehow effect controls in the cockpit like navigation or anything similar?

sad that hawaiian will be replacing the 767's with a330's.
MrKooL92 1 year ago
@MrKooL92 They WILL!?!?!? NOOOOOO!!!!
DV5230US 1 year ago
@DV5230US Some 767's have winglets so they will have them for a little while longer. The A330 is currently only in service LAX-HNL.

those other military aircrafts are the C17's and a C5A galaxy...

@pukihai they are both huge but the C-5 is a monster I got into both of them and the C-17 was a ant compared to the C-5.

I saw the USAF KC-10. What were those other large Air Force planes?
mke312 2 years ago
TO be honest i have no idea. I am more into commercial aviation than military ops.
However, it might be helpful to do some research on military planes based at Honolulu Intl. That may help ID some of the other ones. =D
Thanks for your comment!

@mke312 C-17s and there were some KC-135's
