The 'allies' did not want China to defeat Japan. They only wanted China to tie up Japanese troops and resources. American air bases in China were used to bomb Japan only, not Japanese troops in China. They armed only one or two divisions, with minimal resources, just enough to defeat the Japanese in northern Burma. Corruption was rife during the war. The British made millionaires in the black market with American supplies, in gasoline and food.
"In August 1945 the atomic bombs were dropped and Japan surrendered".
Here we go again, the Americans seem to love to repeat this over and over again, actually the more correct statement should have been "In August 1945 the Soviet Union invaded Manchuria and Japan surrendered" since that was the primary reason for the surrender.

Chaing is a traitor to the Chinese people. He care more about his power that the welfare country and it's people. Fuk communist. Fuk Nationlist. Long Live China
Stilwell, that's his name, isn't it? So, everything was the Nationalist's fault, and none his, was it not? Playing a blame game after failed planning and campaign is like the military history 101. Just the fact that putting so much weight on this man's word proves that the documentary producers did no research. (And, what was the deal with the interviews with the former communist fighters? Is any of their stories verifiable?)
@LiouTao He's not saying the NRA soldiers and officers did nearly squat. He's saying as the head of state ofthe ROC and the commander of its large armed forces, Chiang's lack of leadership skills was unexcusable!
@championofcathay Chiang's leadership skills were quite sound. He was able to halt the Japanese advance and preventing them from further incursion into China. He knows his troops are inferior in every way against the Japanese, and that he only has 2 advantages against the Japanese:
1. He has more troops
2. Japan is a small nation, China is a large one.
He was able to fully utilise these advantages to successfully halt Japanese advance and await for allied assistance.
@LiouTao Did you miss the part in which Chiang Kai Shek kept his professional army for himself, and after the war to combat the communist? And only using the conscripts to fight the Japanese?
@LionOfMing Chiang's own Huangpu army was virtually wiped out fighting in Shanghai and Wuhan. Of the 7000 Huangpu officers, only 3000 were left after Shanghai and Wuhan. Also, Chiang's own Huangpu army consisted of conscripts. All of his German trained divisions, his most elite units were annihilated in Shanghai. Now, how exactly did Chiang 'kept his professional army for himself'.
@donguinto chiang did squat only after 1943, when the war was clearly gonna be won. One could hardly call the battle of Shanghai, battle of Wuhan and battle of Taierzhuang as being squat.
Great documentary! It gives helpful insight and understanding towards the success of the Communist Revolution, the reasons why the Nationalists failed, and the political situation in China during that time.
@CaptainCool07 This documentary did mention that Chinese soldiers would be among the best soldiers of the Allies, if properly trained and properly led.

I have to say I am really impressed with Madame Chiang. She seems like a better leader than her husband.
