This interview was on TV-AM, the early morning breakfast show aired on ITV/STV from 1983-1992. I assume this must be at some point from 1990-92 as it was around this time of the original PCBH run in the UK. They showed PCBH in Scotland on STV on a Thursday. Also Fiona Spence was on Home n Away that aired in the UK around this time.
Lorraine Kelly is still a presenting a similar time slot on the same channel 20 years later
That person interviewing Fiona sounded like a total clueless wank. He reminded me of the typical creepers that used to stalk Princess Diana, stripping her naked of her privacy for their perverted pleasure in whatever format they could achieve.....
Carol Burns' character Frankie Doyle was the one who labelled Vera (Fiona Spence) 'Vinegar Tits' in the first episode. Most of the cast were Aussie, although Amanda Muggleton (Chrissie Latham) was British, Tommy Dysart (Jock Stewart) was Scottish, Betty Bobbit (Judy Bryant) was American. Best inmate was the top dog, Bea Smith (Lehmann). Patsy King was also from the UK. (I followed the series when it was current on TV in the 80s)
They're not British at all. Val Lehman is Australian but putting on a posh voice. She sounds like Bea in real life. Carol Burns is an Aussie too, but doesn't sound like Frankie in real life, she is more well spoken. Very classically trained in theatre and elocution. Carol didn't milk it, she may have been in Prisoner only a short while, but she is probably the best known character. Frankie is very memorable.
carol burns has really milked the fact that she was in prisoner, she was only there for a short while and anytime there's something on tv about it she's there.
Tjhis must have been from Scotland. Fiona looks like she's my Mums age. Yes Carol is a nice lady, and Fiona. The name Fiona is becoming popular for girls names here in America.
carol burns who played frankie is so diffrent to her charichter in prisoner this is testomony to what a good actress as she was so belivable as frankie. Fiona spence seems like such a nice lady and the charichter she played in prisoner was one of the most intresting in the show especially when they showed her vunerable lonely side at home.
@krystlerita True. She has aged really well and looks good for someone in her early 60's. She must have had alot of men after when she was younger especially in her Prisoner days. It turns out she is a lesbian and met her life partner on the set of Prisoner.
I should have made what I meant clearer and looked again at the whole video and mentioned both clips in my last post 11 months ago.
When Val's clip was playing, "Grundy Television" was under the title "Prisoner Cell Block H", unlike Fiona's clip saying "Thames TV" under "Prisoner Cell Block H", so no that doesn't make sense whoever added "Thames TV" in Fiona's clip. ;o)
I do believe Carol wants to play other characters and not go back, only forward, which is cool and understandable, just like Val wants to and not be just known as Bea Smith, but as other characters too. :)
I also reckon Val wasn't keen because Elspeth was in the first live show and there is history there between them. But thankfully Val remained calm and nice and stuff in the interview, so good on her for that. :)
i know james, the man who played steve on prisoner was british as well but had to go back because they were taking citizenship away if didn't go back or some such thing. i have to re read his bio to get the exact facts. but there was a time when you couldn't work in both countries.
PCBH was shown briefly on US TV in 1984 where it gained a cult following. When Frankie died the San Francisco Gay & Lesbian Community had a Casket to mourn Frankie's "death".
is Fiona Spence and relation to Bruce Spence of Road Warriors?

strange, 110% Australian, but travelling on a British passport.... very odd... but hey, she is a good actress, oz or pom

well if your dad or your paternal grandparents are born in Britain you can have a British passport, its how so many Aussies end up in the Europe.

It says Thames Television under "Prisoner Cell Block H" when Fiona's (Vera B) video was playing.
Summerskill 3 years ago
the reason thames televison was under prisoner cell block is because they had promision from gundy televison network 7 does that help you
