I love this song! So romantic and sung beautifully. The best version as far as I'm cocerned, but Nat Cole's version is really good. I wish this music would be popular again. The arrangements were wonderful.
@annielouism First Time I've heard this version too, it's not my favorite, but it's in the top 5. Dinah Washington's version is my favorite, then Amy Winehouse.
@SoccerLovePeace No, none of them where twins, Peggy & Cherie do look like twins in a way, Peggy was the oldest sister, then Cherie was the middle sister, then Babette was the youngest sister.
This song and these ladies are forever implanted in my heart. I first heard them in a friend (girl's) home about 1954 - I love and will always remember that night, that moment. They are part of me.
Looking at all these historic photos, I see that the gals surely did have some big tall hairdos over the years! In the late '40s the had substantial pompadours, and while they toned down the height in the '50s, when the '60s arrived up went the bouffant styles.
Some of the hairdos where wigs like the in the 60's, on up to 2000. Peggy said she had many wigs because her husband wanted her to look different. I really like the way they wore there hair in the 40's in the movie Copacabana.
So many versions have been made of this song but after hearing most of them, The DeCastro Sisters have the best version I think because of how they harmonized so beautifully. Have this same 78 rpm!
I remember hearing that a DJ flipped the record over to the "B" side, Teach Me Tonight from the "A" side, It's Love and the song just took off. I think their version is the best. It's the only DeCastro Sisters record I have, the exact 78 you see on the video. They harmonized beautifully!
I have this same 78 rpm record. Have to find a CD so I can hear their other hit songs. This is the only record I have of theirs but their version of this song is the best I think and it was the "B" side meaning it was supposed to be a throwaway to the "A" side in most cases, not always though. But I remember a DJ saying another DJ flipped the record to the "B" and that was the beginning.
I have the exact 78 rpm you see at the beginning and the end. Sounds wonderful in the 78 Wurlitzer jukebox I have. I'm hoping to get a CD since I've never heard their other songs they recorded. This is the only record I have of theirs. I think I remember the story that a DJ flipped the record over to the "B" side which was Teach Me Tonight and it just took off from there!
I guess you've heard - Cherie DeCastro passed away this week, here in Las Vegas. I had the pleasure of meeting here two years ago. She was still gorgeous and such a bubbly personality. This song will always be one of my all-time favorites. Judy
Yeah I got an E-mail from Peggy's Nephew Jim, He told me she had passed away Sunday March 14, 2010. around 9 AM. I did a memorial tribute slideshow in memory of Cherie, Peggy, Babette, & Olgita. I hope you like it. I was glad to get an autograph from her & write her before she passed away.
There was another version of this recorded a few years later by De Castro Sisiter. Teach me tonight cha cha. I have the vinyl of that version. Both are good.
I have both the cha cha & the original Teach Me Tonight on 45 single. Plus I have the Country version of Teach Me Tonight that they released in the 70's & they sing it in both English & Spanish.
I was so thrilled to meet Cherie (the last remaining original sister) at an event at the Clark County Museum last year featuring Latino influence on entertainment in Las Vegas. She is such a sweet qnd still beautiful lady - gorgeous blue eyes - and what a personality!
Yes, this was their 1st hit song & they were the first to release this song. Their second hit was Boom Boom Boomerang that was written by my late Great Uncle Lonnie Coleman.
What a Christmas party I was at here in Las Vegas a few decades ago....Peggy, Babette, Cherie and Olgita De Castro were present as well as comic Pat Cooper. All in fabulous Las Vegas!!!!
I ran curtain for the De Castro Sisters in the 1980's when they appeared at the Silver Slipper in Las Vegas. They were all classy ladies and Peggy was a cut up, a very funny and also intelligent woman.
That's cool you ran the curtain for them! They performed at the Vapors Club in1993 in Hot Springs, AR. I wish I could have went there, but I was only 12 & I don't know if they have a age limit to come into that club. I don't know if the Vapor's Club is still there or not. My Aunt & Uncle live a not to far from Hot Springs. I wrote to Peggy back in 2001 but I never got a reply. I did however got a personal autograph from Cherie. I do have an old photo from the 1950's were all 3 signed.
I was lucky enough to know Cherie, Peggy and Olgita and they released a great 45 in 1978 of a country version of TEACH ME TONIGHT-it was very, very good. Around the same time they issued a disco version of CHANCES ARE. Their live act was great, a combination of old, classic Las Vegas as well as new.
I got the 45 that had the Country version of Teach Me Tonight. I also have the Chances Are on a CD. Back in 2000 after Olgita's passing I got a Christmas 45 of the De Castro Sisters on the Boha Label that came from Olgita's estate. I got some rare recordings of them back in the 1940's that are very hard find.
De Castro Sisters issued 4 LPs-DE CASTRO SISTERS, ROCKIN BEAT, DE CASTRO SISTERS SING, LIVE. The last records were 45s & were issued in the 70's-80's: TEACH ME TONIGHT (C&W version, flipside BEFORE THE NEXT TEARDROP FALLS), SIMPLE SONG OF YESTERDAY/GHOST OF YESTERDAY (Olgita & Cherie De Castro), CHANCES ARE (disco-a 4 song EP, with THE BEST PART OF ME/POOR BUTTERFLY/WHAT A DIFFERENCE YOU MADE. The last 45 was the 45 of FELIX NAVIDAD/SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN.
I got all of those songs on Cd. I didn't have Simple Song of Yesterday/Ghost of Yesterday but Peggy's Nephew made a copy of it on Cd when I made him copies of these photo's from this Slide show. I bought 4 rare 78's of them a few years ago Penicillin Makes You Willin' / Peru | Nina From Argentina / Maracas In Caracas | Full Moon / We're Not Telling | Tonight I Am In Heaven / Sun Sun Babae | Jumbalato / I Do.

Thank you so much for posting the photos with this great, classic song. I had the pleasure of meeting the only remaining sister, Cherie a few months ago at a special event here in Las Vegas, honoring Latin music's influence on the history of Las Vegas entertainment. I don't know. I had a hard time getting there songs I started looking everyday on EBAY. The Bear Family collection released a De Castro Sisters CD in 1999 & inside there was a booklet with interview quotes & pictures from Peggy & Cherie De Castro.

Peggy passed away March 6, 2004 from Lung Cancer. She was 82. She made her last public appearance at the Boulder Station in Las Vegas on Feb. 14, 2004. She took the spot light to sing one solo song Old Man Time. Cherie is the only sister left. Babette passed away in 1991 from Cancer. I became a huge fan of The De Castro Sisters when I heard they recorded a song that my Late Great Uncle Lonnie Coleman wrote back in 1949 called Boom Boom Boomerang.
