I hate when the media distorts the truth and then people run with it. Alito wasn't necessarily disagreeing with the point the President was trying to make; he was disagreeing with the statement and the misconception that the USSC decision "reversed a century of law, that will open the floodgates for special interest." They did NOT reverse a century of law.
If only he had the restraint of Scalia. My wildest imagination cannot compare to Scalia was thinking at that moment. Oh, the obscenities!

@crazydudetz They passed a legislation that allowed corporations to pay for advertisements saying that they support a certain politician. For example, now after the SCOTUS decision, Exxon Mobil can create a commercial, buy a spot during the Super Bowl saying how great Politician Z is. Before they weren't allowed to do it.

The whole point of lobbyists is for American's to have a say in the political process. If you were to join the American for Democratic Action, you will have joined a lobby group and you can then get your voice heard directly by those who create policy. The term lobbyists came from the fact that in the early years of the government, people would stand in the lobby of the Capitol and express their ideas to the representatives. Now, we suddenly hate them? Get with the program people!

@tonytone73 We do need more 'citizen' lobbyists but if you have ever spent a day at your state's capital building you will find that the current slate of lobbyists are nothing more than highly paid and motivated corporate shills that wine and dine our elected officials and actually WRITE the legislation that they pass, after the wining and dining, of course, with bills that are geared to favor selected people who will profit from these bills. This nation needs real citizens to get involved.

@GAPeachWoman Then why is it that I am apart of a lobbying group to help secure funds for my public education institution in New York City? CUNY is state funded and my student government has a whole commitee directed just at taking trips to Albany and speaking with officials to make sure they understand that CUNY is important. Oh, and I'm apart of a club at school that I am leading towards becoming a think tank to help create policies I think are beneficial to all. Seems like its possible.

It's nobody's fault but your own if you fall for the pitch. For year Americans were told cigarettes were fine. Now, they've been told for years it's the worst habit to have. @tonytone73 I happen to be one that is involved, lobbyist badge and all, although the state legislators got fed up with my citizen activist friends this year and decided to do some 'ethics reform' by raising the fee to acquire the badge. So... we'll just show up without one and continue. Yes, we did make a difference. Wish more people would get involved in the actual process. Thats where the real action is.

But in the end, if you keep trying you can succeed if the idea you're pushing is good. Trying hard CAN get things done.
