@Monstergoat66 Ok, I just wanted to better understand the point of your initial comment. In regards to your comment on the Holy Spirit - Tefillin has it's purpose, but Hashem doesn't hesitate to remind me of His love for me and my call to servant-hood in other ways. BTW, I used to profess the Christian faith that my adopted parents raised me with and have since turned/returned to Judaism...so I am quite familiar with the Christian faith.
@Monstergoat66 Faith (in Hashem) is an important mitzvah. Wearing Tefillin is a mitzvah that is meant to remind us to love and serve Hashem. Jews love honoring Hashem's Torah - it's not burdensome like many Christians argue. I find the "works" vs "faith" argument in Christianity interesting because, while Christianity may emphasize faith in J.C, there are "works" that dedicated servants of J.C. are expected to do (ex. 10 mitzvot). You don't "believe" and then do whatever else you want.
rabbi i have a question. my friend told me that all jewish people watch pornographic films backwards. he said its because we like to see the hooker giving back the money. is this true? i usually watch porn on the internet so its never backwards. am i committing a sin?
@muslimia99 im not 100% sure i shud no that tho its only for men cuz the men r the only ones holy enough to do the mitzvah of teffilin and also men get barmitzvah and only barmitzvahed men r to put on tefilin
What does this do? In non religious terms.. I'm an atheist and I've read that wrapping the arm in this fashion has similar effects on the body as acupuncture (since each loop hits a pressure point). Sort of how Yoga has a stimulating effect that is scientifically measurable. Tefillin too has "real world" value for those of us who aren't religious. I'm just curious to know how this effects mental clarity scientifically, so I can start harvesting the benefits.
To brooklynnotqueens, you should watch your mouth and how you insult such a holy person, because of him so many people worldwide learn to recognize and appreciate G-d who create them. He sacrificed his time and life helping people. What do you do to help people? It's easy to post cruel comments isn't it? It doesn't take any intelligence or dignity does it? As the saying goes "if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything". Especially in your case, do yourself a favour and SHUT UP!!!
If he'd said the blessing it would have. I remember watching my Aba put it on when I was young. I felt like a voyeur, because it looked like such an intimate connection that he was sharing with Hashem.
It would certanly be considered as making fun of religion, besides, if u are not jewish it means nothing to you (putting teffilin) so why bother?
what madonna is doing is taking jewish commandment and presenting it in a video clip to show the world she is feeling closer to it, i think its an insult to this commandment if u ask me... but i wont argue, religion can be flexible
to get connected with g-d needs no one more time, than serious pray in the name of Jesus ^^

@SpandauJerry we do not need to connect with G-d through an idol!

do you have to tefillin on Purim?
snakebitgoat 7 months ago
@snakebitgoat We do indeed. except when Purim occurs on Shabbos.
KingOystar 5 months ago
I understand that you state it is a commandment from G-d. However, I am curious, is this worn solely for prayers? How long is it worn for generally?

Unbelievable!
It's about time that we have something like this to show people how to put on Tefillin and to allow them to do it on their own.
