If you guys watched the Borg Fan Collective dvd of all the borg episodes you guys would know that the queen is just a program that uses a female borg. Once that one is destroyed, another one takes it's place...they can't be stopped
@LoneRookRS1 they do speak in borg binary cube to drone, but they also use efficient languages from assimilated races as well as native languages for communication and intimidation ("we are the borg" over the entire comm system is a much better intimidator than a binary file imo)
We are the Borg. You will be annihilated. Your biological and technological distinctiveness have become irrelevant. Resistance is futile... but welcome.
The Borg were so much better before First Contact and Voyager. They were inpenetrable, driven by the imperative to absorb everything. Even the colour scheme was better - the simple chalk white skin and black technology was much more alienating than the mottled flesh and organic tech that Giger introduced. in my opinion anyway
It'll never happen. They nerfed the borg because they'd created an unstoppable force. Originally, they could adapt to anything their enemies threw at them, thus making them...inevitable. That ability was weakened once they were taken outside of TNG.
If any other race was given a huge advantage, they'd be nerfed too eventually.
@Alamandorious IKR! The borg have assimilated thousands of ships, federation, klingon, romulan, and many other advanced races, yet they don't even have a fucking cloak!
@winlogonexe1 The Queen is a very "new" thing made up in VOY, It's a cheesy Bowser-the-king-of-the-bad-guys. TNG Borg were much cooler even though a bit low tech perhaps.
@depth386 TNG's Hugh-Borg made me cringe, he was so syrupy (the whole of "I, Borg" was pretty rubbish, though, to be honest - turning a member of a hyper-aggressive race of bionic zombies into the cybernetic equivalent of a family pet? Fail). The Borg as they were shown in First Contact were a hell of a lot scarier. Those instant-assimilation tubules that really gave me the creeps...
@MrSinister1979 The Borg are not the usual type of aggressive. They exist to improve themselves and others through the Collective. Not "pwnage". They just do not understand that liking individuality is not an inefficient state.
why would the borg need a logo & writing if they all have collective thinking? seems pretty pointless to me, or to make themselves look cool just before they stab some geeza with those nano-bots
@SvenTviking Hah, yeah. He wiped out the Husnock. "I am not certain if he should be praised or condemned—only that he should be left alone." Too bad he has that whole "conscience" thing going on.
Species 8472 + Queen gets virus + Q + Hive Mind disruption. The Borg ain't that tough when you aim for the hive mind. The only way to defeat the Borg is to wipe them all out at once.
@MasterAdam100 That is true, in the only way to completely defeat the Borg, you must wipe them all out at once. However, that is easier said than done.
One other related side note: Everything has a weakness and thus can be defeated. The Borg are among the few that are extremely difficult to defeat.
@QacheqOfBorg Individual drones without a hive mind connection have shown to be weak and still retaining knowledge of Borg activities(as in Seven of Nine's case). Conventional warfare is not an option when facing the Borg. The Undine were lucky in that the Borg had never encountered a species even remotely like them or possessing any qualities like theirs. Fluidic space was a problem for the Borg and bioships were very new to them and very powerful.
@QacheqOfBorg That's probably the only example of conventional warfare you will see used against the Borg that is successful. Attempts of it when the Borg were still in their infant stages would have sufficed but it is too late now. Too bad the Borg is dead canonically. It did stretch out too long and made the Borg stories boring but the Borg as an enemy is one of Star Treks coolest.
And that's why it's important to be able to learn from all sorts of species - since perfection is unlikely to come from one race, and simply absorbing/assimilating new species won't take advantage of the other species' potential to innovate and evolve. The borg philosophy in their attempt at perfection is flawed from the get go. They are nothing more than an overpowered, brainwashed species bent on domination without any real creative abilities.
@Forsythe0 Not so. In an attempt to persuade 7 of 9 to help assimilate humanity, she says "We're planning to deploy a new mode of assimilation, designed for highly resistant species." Since it is unlikely that any non-Borg would be helping the Borg, the Borg must have developed this "new mode of assimilation" on their own. Thus showing "creative abilities".
That limited creativity is no different than animals adapting to resistance/difficulty. They are at best, the least creative of the sentient beings, while their philosophy facilitates the end of creativity (a single perfection). This isn't a slight against the Borg (who I enjoy as a philosophical concept), but taken all the way, it has become a parasitical race (that primarily feeds off of other races' creative ability, and only minimally uses them for defense/nourishment).
@MasterAdam100 yeah, thank you voyager(and FC) writers for fucking up such a awesome enemy (they where originally about a million years or so technologically ahead of the federation(Guinan) and at the end they can be defeated with weaponry from 20 years in the future by a species which does not have the benefit of a cybernetically enhanced hive mind nor can steal information out of other peoples brains)
@DeHerg I agree. The Borg used to be like a force of nature—like a hyper-advanced, trans-galactic swarm of locusts devouring everything in sight. Not evil, but amoral, and not something to be defeated through conventional means. That's how they should have stayed.
@QacheqOfBorg no. the borg will ignore him as he is a detriment to perfection. he will be discarded, his matter reorganized to serve as fuel for better drones.
@napnip Just as they felt with the Kazon, the Borg would probably feel that he detracts from perfection. And no it has nothing to do with him being gay.
Thing is, there isn't really a "standard" hail for the Borg. They say only exactly what needs to be said, in simple, succinct terms. Sure, they recycle phrases sometimes, but only because they remain relevant.
@Saibrock Yes, you are correct, I labeled it as "Standard" for two main reasons: 1) It is the one heard the most. 2) it is the longest one and "explains" what to be assimilated means.
There is also a often heard "short" version, which is: "We are the Borg. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.".
I Couldn't find one of these that said what I wanted it to say. So I made one up using Sony Vegas and Sound Forge. I tried to make my voice sound like the borge. Check it out and let me know what you think. I took the interruption noise from the movie 1st Contact.
we are the borg lower your shields and surrender your ships we will add your biological and tecnological distinctiveness to our own ressistance is futile
I'm slightly bothered by the fact that the Borg alphabet looks like a simple substitution cypher for English. You'd think a culture that highly evolved would either have a much more information-dense writing method (with either fewer characters per word or a single character per word) or just communicate to other cultures in their own language...
@thatotherguy27 Yes, I personally agree. However just for a quick and dirty video, I just used the Borg font which used the subsitution cypher. Actually the Borg's language would probably be a math-based one. Especially since the use numbers to designate objects aways... Thankx for your insightful comment! :)
