  • Those Fender Precision basses give such nice punch and bottom to a song. Very evident here....nice playing!

  • Thanks! I still have that bass - a 1963 "L" series - but I don't use it much anymore. It feels too light and the strings don't have a uniform response. I could modify it for a better sound and feel but I'd end up destroying the instrument.

  • @bassboy53 What amp were you using for this performance? Your masterful punchy patterns fit that song like a glove...and really seem to be the "glue" holding the song together along wth the nice steady beat of your drummer.

  • The drummer is (as he always did) using a click track with a percussion backing track which is why the groove sits like clockwork.

  • Thanks for the background info....

Would it be possible to get a dvd copy of this performance for my own home use? Am a big fan of this song and very much enjoy seeing others perform it.

  • It was an old (even then!) Jands stereo 400w power amp with a home-made preamp, biamped into 2 x 10 and 1 x 15. By the look of it I was just using one of the cabs but couldn't tell you which one. With the cooling fan it was a noisy bugger of an amp, heavy too! I got rid of it not too long after this and bought a new Seymour Duncan 600 with 4 x 10" - had it for almost 20 years until recently, now have a lightweight but grunty 700w Epifani with 3 x 10".

  • @bassboy53 That's very interesting. I know what you mean about weight! I played bass as a teen and used heavy as lead Sunn 200S, 2000S amps. Someone I know in my area just got an Epifani amp too and loves it. I guess your '63 Precision is a real collector's bass now!

  • Is the band still together? Have any reunion get togethers? Is Elizabeth still performing?

  • Hi there - no, the band broke up around 1993, Elizabetyh Lord left in '89. The band then reformed with no original members and limped along for a while but never coming near the quality of the original. Not sure what Elizabeth Lord is doing now, last time we spoke dhe was still performing but that was maybe 10b years ago?

  • Very tight group with excellent vocals and sexy dancing by Elizabeth! Nice punchy driving bass and drums...

  • EXCELLENT!!!! Great Rendition!

And what a fabulous hit this was by Tavares!!! Timeless classic!

  • Ha - I'd forgotten about the house band's vocalists doing some BVs!
