  • I believe Victa made all the engines on these mowers, correct? I believe at least one Victa of this particular vintage had a Briggs & Stratton engine on it.

  • @ClassicTVMan1981X - I think (and I may well be mistaken!) that Victa made the 2-stroke engines, and used Briggs & Stratton for the 4-strokes...

  • Ahh, yes, the Victas...w/ their famous "Victa Zip-Starters" and the "no-prime, no worries 'G-4' carburettor" (or at least that's how I recalled it back then). Fun!!

  • This is one of the rare commercials to use a song from a Disney cartoon movie - "Zip a Dee Doo Dah" from Disney's Song of the South (which has been released on DVD in many foreign countries but never yet in the USA and Canada).

  • Since this Aussie ad was from 1974: Was this the last year most TV was black and white before Aussie TV finally received color TV broadcasts?

  • We officially got colour on March 1, 1975, but many stations had been broadcasting in colour throughout '74.

  • It sounds like this is from 1974 and not 1972.

  • Yep - quite right! Thanks for the catch...
