This is an absolute disgrace. How dare the officials blame the poor athlete who was killed. The sloppy effort to put up padding just after he died shows how bad the Canadians planned this. Even in the public roads for walking in Switzerland, they have padding around the trees, as they know skiers use the roads also. Someone said "they just put them up for racing". The guy was travelling at 145 kph when he slammed into the stell pole. Isn't that dangerous enough? Padding might have saeved him.

I was in Sydney during the Olympic games in 2000 and in Athens in 2004. Both cities did the exact same thing with the homeless. Makes you wonder doesn't it?

actually alot of homeless people in Vancouver have jobs. Rent in Toronto,Vancouver and Calgary is pretty insane, and with Vancouver having the warmest climate, all the bums across Canada migrate there so they have a real problem.

I have lived in Vancouver for my entire life, and this dickfuck comes along and suddenly is an authority on Canadian issues, an speaks against the olympics (which, despite what he said, IS heavily supported in Vancouver)? He also fails to mention that is was because of the same kind of protests that the people on the east side are on the street.

This guy is an uneducated idiot. Homeless from all over the country flock to BC because of our mild weather - it's much easier to be homeless here than in Winnipeg. And noone here supporst these protesters - most of them are not from BC, they were violent and wore masks. If you want to stage a peaceful protest be my guest, but you deserve to be arrested when you start destroying property. Canada and Vancouver wanted these games, let there be no question about that!

I was in Sydney during the Olympic games in 2000 and in Athens in 2004. Both cities did the exact same thing with the homeless. Makes you wonder doesn't it?

With this incident, i say part blame goes to the organizers, and part goes for the participants. The organizers for obvious reasons, and the participants because this incident occurred one day before the start, and they must have been practising on the tracks for AT LEAST a week before this. Yet they seem not to have noticed anything wrong with the track.

I see a lot of Canadians saying how our nation is better than US. What i have to say to them is, if it really is that much better, then why the heck are more canadians going to america than the other way round. I'm not saying Canada is wrong, but no country is perfect. Both countries have pros and cons.

Having that Beam, as it was, accessable to be hit by an out-of-control Luger, would be No different than putting a Giant Sword pointing pointing menacingly at the track, in the same position...If one does not recognize Danger, then the 2 examples are Not the same, but in my oppinion This man DID recognize the danger, causing him to cut inside too early, fearing the beams to the outside.

I live in Vancouver and I can tell you for a fact that many, many DO NOT support the Olympics. Only those with the lowest I.Q.'s do, as the rest of us know that the Olympics = more intense police state, and a complete waste of tax dollars, which will only further add to our economic problems. People who have intimate knowledge of how money was spent/wasted say it is shocking and obscene, the lack of regard for taxpayer dollars.
