This event was very close to me, I was 7 at the time. I lived on a SAC base at the time, my dad was a bombardier/navigator in a B-47. We were under TOTAL alert status for many months, much longer tha the public "crisis". Periodic school/home evacuations to bomb shelters, survival supplies ready to go in the house /car, etc. My dad was deployed to "undisclosed locations" stateside and European for months. When did he fly in , we only saw him in the ready barracks. It will never be forgotten...
