In the season of Lent we are asked to give up a few nice things and offer it up to God, and when you think of the suffering he went through to save ungrateful sinners like us, it's not very hard. It also never hurts to listen to a bittersweet song that sings of victory through a temporary death.
Thanks to Matt Maher for (at least for now) releasing 6 musically AND spiritually superior albums.
I got to meet Matt when he came to San Diego last year. I told him that this song changed my life and he replied with "aww, God bless you." He is such a humble person...he didn't really even take credit for it---I think he gives all credit for this song to God :)

Hmmm, I thought up a cool music video idea for this song. It pans to everyone in suffering and/or sin singing different parts of the verse (like "where were you when sin stole my innocence" sung by a drug addict, and "pain, could you take away the pain" sung by someone suffering from some sickness). I think it could be really powerful, especially if the "you were on the cross, all along" part sung with all of them gathered around the foot of the cross.
I absolutely love this song. It has such incredible emotion and feeling to it as you listen to it. Whenever we forget that God died on that cross for us, we need to listen to this song to be reminded of the sacrifice he made for us.
