  • Brilliant..That is what I call a catholic service ..from an anglican friend.

  • 1:32 Congregant in gloves absolutly rules

  • I know it's not an intentional part of the service, but seeing priests and servers process PAST the altar used for the new Mass, to approach the beautiful high altar used for the old Mass, is beautiful to me beyond words.

  • it's not the New Mass itself that's bad, it's the way that ecumenists and modernists have corrupted it after it's ratification (clown masses, female priests, etc). Although most New Mass churches have gone apostate and are going apostate but I guarantee you there are some real orthodox ones.

  • @HomeSkillet489 There are no clown masses or female priests in the Roman Catholic church (sounds like you follow the Zirconia brother's and their schizophrenic paranoia). God doesn't care how we worship, He only cares that we worship. This divisiveness bred by the anti-Vatican 2 sects, cults and seminary rejects (ie. The Dimond brothers) only makes the enemy stronger and gives him greater power to the destroy the church. Instead of listening to the anti-church fanatics talk to a real priest.

  • @danthrplgst But... if God doesn't care how we worship, why didn't he accept the sacrifice of Cain? it was worship, but He didn't like it. Nor did he like the worship of Nadab and Abihu so they were consummed by Our Lord's wrath, because they offered "strange fire".

  • @JesGabBreMar In the liturgy, we don't offer "strange fire" (but we do offer incense as a symbolic gesture of prayers rising) nor do we offer a sacrifice ala Cain; we offer the sacrifice of Christ's body and blood that he gave on Calvary. Incidentally, you're quoting from the Old Testament; Christ came to free us from the OT and the sins of the people before his crucifixion.

  • @HomeSkillet489 But the New Mass is deficient in doctrine, though not downright sinful, it is inferior in almost every respect. It is spiritual fast-food compared to the grandiosity of the TLM in regards to: the content of the prayers, the clear expression of the true doctrine of the Church, the careful assimilation of the reality of the Real Presence in the rubrics and of course the "smells and bells", as some call the aesthetics. I also recommend you read the (cardinal) "Ottaviani Intervention"

  • @JesGabBreMar I like the Ordinary Form of the Mass (ones that don't have abuses in them), but I still like to attend Latin Tridentine Masses when I can. We need to thank God for groups like the FSSP for making this form of the mass available to us.

  • was this from St. Pat's Cathedral?

  • Checca-procession!

  • Interesting how they ignore the Novus Ordo table and go to the real altar....

  • @jurisdude That's uncharitable.

  • @assasincomedy Read Michael Davies' "Pope Paul's New Mass", the most emminent expert on the Latin Mass of the 20th c. and an expert on how the New Mass came to be. He starts a chapter with a welsh poem that is very prophetic (paraphrasing) "They have removed the altar...and in its place what have they replaced it with? A table....a sad table." MIchael Davies was ALWAYS in good standing with the church Benedict XVI said when he died that a the church lost a great expert on the Mass.

  • The agony and the ecstasy of the old rite...

  • What a shame that the Novus Ordo mass has strayed so far from the Tridentine form. I am not completely opposed to the priest facing the congregation but I have a serious problem with the lack of reverence and solemnity that Vatican II allowed for in the new mass. It simply went too far in abandoning the notion that the mass should uplift the participants, to make them feel as though they are experiecing heaven on earth. Why do the vast majority of priests no longer chant? Where is the incense?

  • This has always been my favorite Roman Catholic religious structure in Manhattan, and how wonderful to see this cerremony there! Wish I had been part of it, thanks for posting!

  • A little piece of heaven on Earth.

  • I owe Rev. Bisho Rifan my fellow citizen, and brother in Carmel, the inspiration for the sacred music. I used to learn some church organ tips with him when I was a teenager.

I just can praise the Lord seeing this tremendous and gorgeous pipe organ and choir performing the real catholic sacred music during the Holy Solemn Mass . Deo gratias !

  • @balboa62 Because.

  • As the Director of Music Ministries and Organist at the Church of St. Jean Baptiste it gives me great pleasure to be able to say that this is the Choir of St. Jean's and I conducted and played all music heard for this Mass. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, Kyler Brown

  • @kylerbro

    Kyler,

We were just talking about that beautiful Mass yesterday as the Feast of the Sacred Heart is coming up. I loved all the music, but the entrance procession was the high point for me. You did an absolutely masterful job playing the organ. What was the name of the processional?

I particularly loved the way you closed it---all the intricate counterpoint winding down and resolving to a single line as the Bishop came to the altar. Just beautiful.

  • can anyone tell me what choir this is? i would be so suprised if it was the church choir because they're all singing perfect straight tone

  • i wish we did stuff like this at the mother gurin latin mass community sfps. but the most we have is a missa cantata high mass, and usually without even a decon since there are soo few to go around, and there are only about 75 that come to sunday mass give or take.

our church is very plain where we have it, but there are several where it is very befiting if only we could get to use one of the other churches for it. though they have done a few weddings in the 90's at saint peters parish.

  • You mean a Missa Cantata with incense?

Where I go, they have High Mass and about 300 plus people. Where is your Latin Mass located?

  • We dont normaly use incense except for occasions like easter. The community I told you is the Mother Gurin latin mass community of the priestly fraturnity of St Peter, its in For wayne. It is a tridentine mass I sometimes go to the daily mass in morning.

  • Is the Tridentine celebrated at this church and how often?

  • I don't think it is, at least not yet....It was a special event but it was packed...A fitting Church and sanctuary for Tridentine Masses..

  • Thanks for this post..I was there and it was a beautiful Mass and Bishop Rifan's homily gave many thoughts to reflect upon..I especially loved when he said we "Catholics are the religion of Love" I will always remember that. The music was so uplifting, I miss it in everday Ordinary Form Mass. Why it is gone I will never understand...Chant goes with the Roman Mass hand in hand..It can not be seperated.
