  • Yes, Howard Hill killed three elephants with a longbow. He used a 115# longbow and arrows that weighted 1,700 grains.

  • someone please answer is it true that howard hill killed an elephant with a longbow?

  • Thats a small longbow

  • @IrishAimbot

The 68# bow is only 66" nock to nock, it is a little shorter than I like, but it still shoots nice, no stacking!

  • Wouldn't wanna arm wrestle that guy.

  • can you kill a boar whit longbow?

  • @lifeguard65000

I killed two wild hogs the first time I hunted with the 68# bow! I shot through bow hogs at at 20 yards each.

  • who made it and does it kick???

  • @raginroadrunner

The first bow, the 68# longbow was made by a friend of mine. The other is a "Desert Dog" archery bow, this guy is no longer in business.

  • Awesome, I was looking for a video where you can actually HEAR the sound the bow makes for ages and this is great, also good reference to how fast you can nook and fire a bow if you don't rush but have a reasonable pace.

  • finally a normal bow!

  • no arm guard??!! eeek

  • Watching Howard's video clips on here you will clearly see that he pauses for a bit at anchor. Mr. Bear didn't have a definite anchor, and his shooting style is really not one to be emulated, he exhibited way too many form errors to be a consistently good shot.

  • How far does it shoot?

    Nice shot btw

How many feet is it anyway?

  • How far does it shoot?

    Nice shot btw

  • My dad has a re-curve hunting bow, and when I was a kid I tried it. I didn't know I needed an arm guard (whatever you call those) and my first shot took the skin right off the inside of my forearm!

Ah, to be young and clueless!

  • 68 pounds? really?

  • how to make video please?

  • Medieval archers used 100 lb. bows

  • nice man! Whats your bow weight?

  • @jacksoncole79

The first bow is 68# @ 28" draw, the second bow is 80# @ 28" draw.

  • I keep commenting on video's like this. Nice shooting but please rename your video to flatbow shooting, this is no longbow from my point of view!

I may be wrong but this is just flatbow. Btw are those plastic nocks? If your shooting longbow I'd recommend self nocks with horn plates in the nock. Good luck, nice video!

  • @vinsk8er4life

I am not sure what your issue is. These bows are not English Longbows, they are American Longbows, at least that is what I have heard archers like Howard Hill refer to them. I shoot many different types of arrows some with many different types of longbows. To each their own. I wonder if you make your equipment without the benefit of modern tools, if you want to be historically accurate.

  • @jfaormella

    That may be so..

I find the term 'american longbow' well i don't know its just a flatbow to me :P

I try to make everything without the benefit of modern tools yes.

Offcourse not totally accurate.. but thats nearly impossible :P

  • @vinsk8er4life

It's good that you try to work without the benefit of modern tools, I tip my hat to you. What type of bow do you consider a "longbow", an English style D shaped? As for me, I shoot "long" bows as apposed to recurve or compound bows. Again, I think most people refer to the American Longbow, as a longbow, without regard for the shape, at least that's what I see.

  • @jfaormella

True I also used to do that until my longbow dealer and friends started to correct me when I started shooting.. the well lets call it D section indeed. I now have 3 real bows ( i am not calling my starting recurve a real bow since I consider it to be more of a toy than a bow) I have one Samick Outlander 40#, 1 self made hickory flatbow 36# and 1 hickory jatoba longbow of 65#. Currently making another flatbow :)

  • @jfaormella

I was in a bad mood too when I posted, so my apoligies for that! My pc just mayorly crashed and that was the last thing I did with it hahaha. Its fixed now. Again nice shooting! I got my Longbow from Fairbow. Where are u from? I'm from Holland.

    Cheers!

  • Is that a Howard Hill quiver?

  • @JamesTCA

Yes this is a Howard Hill quiver, the softer version. It is quite a good value and works well when roving and stump shooting.

  • @JamesTCA

Yes, I find the Hill quiver very nice for stump shooting or small game hunting. It allows you to carry quite a few arrows and allows for easy access to those arrows.

  • @jfaormella WHAT KIND OF BOWS ARE THEY I SHOOT A HOWARD HILL TEMBO ITS 68" 45# 28 INCH DRAW AND A HOWARD HILL WESLEY SPECIAL 68" 45# 28 INCH DRAW AND A MARTIN VENOM REFLEX DEFLEX LONGBOW IT IS 66" 50# 28 INCH DRAW AND A HOYT GAME MASTER 2 RECURVE IT IS 62" 45# 28 INCH DRAW AND I HAVE A PSE BOW MADNESS XS COMPOUND AND A PSE TAC 15i CROSSBOW MY FAVORITE OUT OF ALL THE BOWS I HAVE IS THE HOWARD HILL TEMBO IT SHOOTS LIKE A DREAM NICE VIDEO

  • Cool

  • For those that think they know but don't, snap shooting is when you release at moment of anchor. You must reach anchor to be accurate, but you must have good form as well. For the video author: Don't know if you do this or not, but try indexed nocks. These will help you to concentrate on the target and so much on putting your arrow on the string.

  • "These will help you to concentrate on the target and "not"so much on putting your arrow on the string".

  • A lot of interesting comments for a video I put on as a lark. I shot this video so that I could review my shooting form and decide to place it on the site for fun. Little did I know I would have so many helpful comments on my form. To each his own, this style works well for me as I primarily hunt with my longbow and I have a good bit of hunting success. As for my anchor point, I always try to put my index finger at the corner of my mouth.

  • @jfaormella great bow.whats the length.looks like its backed with bamboo.i say elm osage and yew are the best,,but yew is all gone and just too expensive

  • The english medieval longbow had a draw weight of 150- 160lb.

Thats like picking up 3 big sacks of potatoes.

You had to train for years just to be able to shoot the thing.

Any archer who couldn't fire 10 aimed shots a minute was of no use at all in the army of that period.

  • Really need to see the target to judge how well his style is working, but the shots are way too fast.He is indeed snap shooting and probably should be shooting a lighter bow.

  • @kerbouchard73

The speed of my shooting is in line with archers like Howard Hill and Fred Bear, at least from the videos I have seen. Snap shooting is when the shooter does not reach a consistant anchor point. Hold the shot longer than necessary to be on target is not an advantage, at least that is how I see it!

  • That is not a long bow,it's a flat bow.

Similar, but not the same. Minor point maybe, but then again the title does say "longbow".

  • Snap shooting is a terrible thing to teach young archers! It causes all kinds of problems with consistency and form. Please do not do this!

  • he's actually not snap shooting--- It's more like rapid fire instinctive shooting.

And if it works--what the heck?

  • 91Roadwarrior so you just like the killing part of the bible right , here you are again on videos that propagate violent activity's , pray for them

  • @quarf51 I agree 100 percent I take a couple seconds and admire my sight window before realease always always always!!!!!!

  • Who said he was teaching? stfu

  • nice snap shoot'n! 68 is stout! cool vid...

..check out my longbow/ recurve vids........

  • what could you kill with a 20-25 pound bow

  • rabbit maybe? i have a 75 inch long longbow, and it is 35 pounds at 28 inches. i am going hunting rabbit with mine over the weekend. i am just under the legal limit for killing deer, which is 32 pounds.

  • Good form.

  • with good shoting you could kill a deer with a 25 pound draw the average recurve weight for them is 50 so yes

  • hunter1000100: dude, you've aked this on like 10-15 videos. Yes, it will guarantee a pass-trough a deer. Just don't hit the shoulder blade, and you'll be fine. Practice until you can hit the vitals of a deer out to 25-30 yards.

  • hey rxdog578 i have seen your profile and i bet that u haven't even shot a bow in your whole life, so stick to playing video games instead of shooting bows.

  • why not?

  • do u think that 55 pound draw weight bow can kill a deer?

  • Yes it easily can. 45lbs will kill a deer with correct shot placement and the right arrows/broadheads

  • dude it will kill a bear

  • @rozuell you might not want to though

  • @rozuell i’m pretty sure that a 63 pound pull can kill any game in north america. I’m not positive but i’m pretty sure.

  • @wahappun your right the legal hunting weight for big game is normaly set at 50 pounds every big game animal in north america has at 1 point fallen to bows pulling no more than 50 pounds i personaly how ever pull 75@27 using a 800 grain arrow i plan for the worst that way when it happens i still win.

  • yes even a 30 pound bow matched with the correct arrow and broadhead will kill a deer

  • I dont think this guy needs any of your help. If his arrows are making there mark then his form is great.

I do the same thing with my fingers. With every shot they slide a little forward so I push them back in order to tighten on my fingers again.

Keep up the good work. Love the bow and the form.

  • i use arm protectors now that i saw my friends whole wrist get completely peeled and flapping from a 110 lb medieval yew bow

  • Nice bamboo lam bow - but it's a flatbow , not a longbow.

Watch longbow oz VI for tips how to shoot it better.

  • I love traditional archery. I used to have a compound browning and killed alot of deer but i just dont get that real hunter feeling when i kill deer or elk like i do with long bows and recurves.

  • Okay...it's a longbow, yeah...but traditional is something different in my eyes...

  • after every shot y does he keep touching his tite for?

  • i thnk it ichy lol

  • when you release, you relax de right side of your body. touching tite is the end of that movement. when you kick a football your leg continues the movement after the contact, it's consequence of a well done movement. no itchy :)

  • After shooting, his glove slides off his fingers a little bit. He touches his chest to push the tips of his fingers to the end of the shooting glove.

  • Ok, I've got a problem getting my arrows to stay in the arrow rest while drawing the string. I usually have to keep my index finger up to hold the arrow in place. I see you don't do that in the video. Could you give me some advice on what I'm doing wrong? Any feed back would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • dont touch the arrow with ur fingers when drawing the string. Put ur index finger above the arrow and ur middle and ring finger together underneath it. Keep the arrow on the rest. Draw back the string and fire!

  • You are pinching the nock. Try moving your fingers a little futher apart and make sure you dont grip the nock.

  • Try canting your bow, which means to tilt it. If you are a right-handed shooter, you should cant your top bow tip slightly to the right. This has a tendency to help the arrow stay on the rest, and it opens up your sight picture to help with your instinctive shooting. Additionally, try to keep your string fingers away from the arrow when shooting...keep a slight gap between your fingers and the arrow. You might try shooting three fingers under arrow as well. This is how I shoot and it it works

  • perhaps hi is not shooting very good perhaps his string is not centered perhaps your bow is a joke

  • ok, just one question:

I have a cheap bow with the arrow seat not belonging to the same geometrical plan of string, arms axis and arrow axis.

must I aim a little bit beside the target to hit it? or is it something wrong with my bow?

  • I am not sure I know what you mean. I always look down the arrow and use the arrow when aiming. If the arrow flys off the mark it may mean your arrow spine is to weak or to stiff, try changing arrows.

  • thanks for your reply. what I meant is that my bow is non-centered.

my arrows all fly towards left, if I aim with the arrow axis.

should I try thicker or thinner arrows?

    thanks

  • Perhaps you may want to get arrows spined to your bow. Spine means the weight gauge that the arrows will work best with. You ghotta know the weight of your bow (__# @ __"), that sort of thing.Once you determine that, you should be able to obtain arrows spined for your bow.If you need more information, I could sent you a coupkle of URLs that would have a lot of good info for you. Most bows are not center shot. They are like yours.

  • @jfaormella

whats ur mark point? i mean where do u place the arrow on your face?

I am holding the arrow beside my face more looking at the target. But my trainer said he was keeping the string in the middle of his nose and lips. .. and that when he is shooting he is having his string in the middle of his eye.. Do u also do that?
