Don't worry about money, etc... but I do hope to approach the BBC with the finished animation, so it might be best to only show an "unfinished" teaser at your exhibition.

Look, we can put the anime short up as a Piece for sale, and include in the contract of sale that it is not for reproduction or broadcast in any format. We can also stipulate that the artist owns the intellectual property rights (although that will affect price). I would urge you to consider putting monetary value on your work.

The only problem is that I can't legally make money from it, as I am using copyrighted sound clips and voices from the actual Doctor Who series. The only way I can get away without being sued by the BBC and Terry Nation's estate is by it specifically being fan work...

Don't worry. We'll use the approach that all musicians use when they sample other peoples work. Anyway, how are they going to make that stand up in a japanese court? I don't know if you know Japan, but japanese courts wouldn't give them the time of day. Copyright infringement is rampant here.

I suggest that you don't pay for the Dr Who thing, thus keeping it's fan work emphasis and if you want to support Mr Johnson in his artistic ways, then commission him to do a token picture. In the long run, it saves a lot of hassle. Maybe a simple caricature/avatar. They are always handy!

Having it shown in Kyoto would be amazing. Be sure to take a picture, so we can all see it in situ.
