Yeah! I think that's the best part! What would be really cool is if the museum had a couple dozen of them!
:P
Oh, I got up at 3:30 Sunday morning and went out to watch them move the 747 across the highway. It was pretty cool, though it was still dark out, so the pictures and vid turned out bad- much of it you can't see a thing at all!
Those guns are really cool. I love all types of guns, and I would love to shoot all of those ones. By chance did they have a M1A1 carbine? It is a really nice gun. What guns, like the antique ones, does your family own?
Yeah the carbine is at the top at 1:26 and I believe one of the paratroopers had one but I didn't get it in a picture.
My mom's grandfather who died in 1979 at 100 had a friend who fought in the Spanish-American War of 1898 & got his 1896 Krag-Jorgensen Rifle. After he died my aunt got it but she gave it to my dad. He has something between 100 to 200 guns but I think all the others are from the last 100 years.
Oh! The other really neat one is a Walther pistol my dad got when I was in high school.
It came in a box with a long poem written by the previous owner- a German police detective. He had me take it to school to have my math teacher, who knew German translate it. It was great, something about how the pistol is the officer's best friend, there to defend him in time of need, or something along those lines!
A Walther?!?!?!? That is so awesome, they can shoot really fast. I have never heard of a Krag-Jorgensen, but that also sounds really cool. I had no idea about the length of a Carbine. It is a lot shorter than I thought it would be, but I guess that is good for close range. Wow, what I would not give to be able to fire all 100+ of your dad's guns!
Yeah, it was cool just that he got a Walther, but especially because it had been owned by a German detective & he left that poem which gave it a sort of history!
Yeah, our navy was one of the worst in the world in the later 1800s, behind most South American countries! Also our rifles were poor-the Spanish in the war had the Mauser while we had basically Civil War era stuff! The Krag was a Norwegian rifle used by them, us & Denmark. Most of ours though were the obsolete model 1889 black powder.
Yeah, the carbines were developed originally for cavalry use- a shorter rifle that could easily be carried and used on horseback. It was picked to be used by paratroopers & fighting in jungle areas too because of it's short length- though that also makes it less accurate over longer ranges- but in the jungle that's no problem & for paratroopers the smaller size was more important.
Nah, with my not being able to swim, not being to keen about being in the water, I doubt I'll ever go down it, but I'd still love to climb up into it!
Actually, about 200 miles north, near Seattle is the Boeing Museum, which has a nice collection, including one of the old 707 Air Force One's. They also got a Conchord. I just heard from a guy who lives here in Oregon that he went up there with his dad and they got to see and go inside both of them!
Thanks Dylan! It's a little dark inside while with those huge windows tons of bright light was shining through from outside, so I was worried it wouldn't turn out very good!
Yeah, it'll be great! My Evergreen newsletter said that they'll be bringing it in on Sunday, August 26th at 4:45 A.M., when traffic will be very light & people can come to watch from a grassy area in front of their Evergreen Helicopter building on the other side of the highway.
Also, the mornings of Saturday/Sunday August 22/23 they've got a ton hot air balloons launching there and a Saturday night burn.
Ugh! I wish I'd known it was flying in- I never would have thought a 747 could land on that little runway!!!
This morning I got a correction from the museum saying that it will be moved this Sunday- July 26, not in August. I may get up early and go watch that- though it wouldn't be near as exciting as seeing it land there!
Отличный музей!!!

...before they all started crashing!
...funny,they dont do that with cars...and theres more of those! haha
maybe sometime you could go!
hartnell114 2 years ago
That's really cool that you got to be on one! They are definitely one of the more unique aircraft of all time!
LOL! Yeah, a whole lot more people die in one year in car wrecks than all the people who've ever died in air crashes!
