  • Almindinger leading, lol

  • Amazing that she survived this

  • that truck driver is bad ass...

  • This crash was so eerily similar to Greg Moore's fatal accident. When I first saw it. I really feared the worst.

  • It just hit me: just before the crash they were watching the battle that Katherine had with Servia and the other car and they knew she was the middle car. It took them a radio communication 34 SECONDS LATER to find out about it!!! Nice commentating.

One of the worst crashes I've seen in a long time!!! So glad to see Kathy walk away, you don't realize how close to death she was!!!

  • Katherine, d'you wanna coffee?

  • i was at this race. and if that was a shitty indy car she would have died.

  • @fatpat1823 I doubt it. Mike Conway had a horrific crash similar to this at the Indy 500 this year and lived.

  • @fatpat1823 no disrespect but i cant agree. indycars were at this time not a structurally sound as champ cars were but an indycar was and is designed to withstand a much bigger impact than those of a champ car . just thank god indycar is finally getting their act together and maybe very soon we can go back to the pre 1995 days when it was the best single seater category on the planet.

  • @paulboggan The current IndyCars are just as structurally sound as those Champ Cars were. They are built around identical crashsafety specs. IndyCars tend to break apart more spectacularly than this because the most notable Indy crashes are on ovals, at much higher speeds. The current IndyCars DO have a serious flaw though - they get airborne FAR too easily. Hopefully the new car will not have this issue.

  • @DBoy02 - With the notable exception of the Paul Dana crash -- which was not survivable by any open-wheeled race car -- the 2003-2011 cars have been VERY safe compared to earlier Indy specs. The FIA sets rules for auto racing safety specs, and changes to increase safety since the last Indycar (Dallara) spec 8 years will be incorporated. For instance, the cockpit will be widened to 21" (or so I heard) to accommodate removing an injured driver.

  • @paulboggan yeah I think 2012 is going to be the start of something great

  • Would be a challenging F1 track, but would be seen as too dangerous. Now we get a Tilke autodrome in Texas. Yawnsville.

  • ''Lap 54, about 6 laps to go 5 as soon as they cross the flag, next time''

    REALLY?

  • i watched this live, I thought she died. I was shocked that they said she was alive.

  • very simalar to greg moores crash...glad shes ok.. does anyone know what shes doing now?

  • She's driving an Audi in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM)

  • When the rear wing come off there is so much force from the front wing that it makes the rear wheels come off the ground.

There is no way to control a rear wing failure...

Wait yes there is MAKE IT STRONGER!!!!

  • "Katherine have you got a copy" says the radio - how about?? "Katherine are you okay?"

  • "have you got a copy" is asking if she can hear her radio, which is essentially asking if she is okay...

  • hahaha - well aware of that - But "Katherine are you okay" less words and to the point, dont you think!

  • @wpsracing108 Its the Same thing...

  • @wpsracing108 he started with that

  • Can someone tell me please, what is the difference between Indycar and Champcar??? Before the name calling starts, I'm from the UK and Indycar/Champcar isn't really a big sport here. Also, whats the point of oval tracks??

  • champ car and indy were completely seperate racing series with their own races/cars. although they finally merged into 1 racaing series in 2008

  • and oval tracks do not have a point ... they're oval!

  • the point of oval tracks..its flat out racing...end of story..fast cars and drivers beating each otehr...motor racing in its purest form..im from ireland and have followed cart.champcar.indycar since i was a kid, about 20 years , no its not huge over here but it is possible to follow it.... more people should, great series and 2009 looks like being a classic....

  • @paulboggan "motor racing in its purest form" HAHAHAHAHAHA. Right.

  • @mattloque @mattloque hmmm, intelligent reply. im not arsed going into a history lesson right now.

  • Her rear wing flew off, then she wrecked. NOBODY can control one of these cars when that happens.

  • Cause of accident is her rear wing flew off

  • Aw! That's not fair, 'pmanngw' shouldn't have his comment hidden. I'll give it a thumbs up so everyone can relive his dubious wit and wisdom........... ;)

  • now she is driving in the best race sereies in the word. the DTM!

  • "AJ Allmendinger leads"...wonder if that will ever be said in NASCAR.

  • Don't need to argue that anymore!

  • yep, indycar won

  • the tub spining remends me of greg moors fatel crash

  • Is alive?

  • yes

  • i was there and all of the sudden everyone starts running down to where u can watch off turn 11 and by the time i got there, majority was cleaned up

  • How can a fast corner like that have so less gras incase a car slides of...

  • Yeah, grass is slowing down your car very good, right? No, there should be a concrete escape zone (or how is that called, sry I'm German).

  • good lord, that was absolutely horrific! thank god she survived and unhurt aswell, she's extremely lucky.

  • The car didn't disintegrate - it ripped apart. disintegration is where everything evaporates and totally disappears.

  • @CountryxGal That is comically wrong. Disintegrate means to come apart - the opposite of integrate (to come together).

  • Lucky girl.

  • Scary accident. She's freakin lucky to survive that.

  • yah
